The man, was shocked by what he found, as he discovered the decomposing body of a woman dumped in the woods, with insects crawling over the remains. Her upper body had decayed to the point that only skeletal remains were left. At 08:00 on September 19, 2024, Pol. Lt. Ratchanat Rassadornpranee, an investigator at Nakhon Chai Si Police Station, was alerted to the discovery of a body in a grassy area along the Nakhon Chai Si-Huai Phlu Road in Moo 5, Sam Phrathuan subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si district, Nakhon Pathom province. Police officers, led by Pol. Col. Phayap Sothorangkun, the chief of Nakhon Chai Si Police Station, along with a forensic team, hospital staff from Huai Phlu, and the Nakhon Pathom Volunteer Foundation, arrived at the scene to investigate. The body was found lying face down in a water channel about three metres from the road. The corpse had swollen and was covered in maggots. Upon retrieving the body, police observed that it was severely decomposed, with the upper portion, from the chest upwards, reduced to almost skeletal remains. The lower body was swollen from decay. The victim, a female, had a black beaded bracelet on her right wrist, while a watch adorned her left wrist. A phone charger was tightly wrapped around her neck. In the back pocket of her shorts, officers found a wallet containing some cash, two Vietnamese banknotes, an ATM card, an eye donation card from the Thai Red Cross, a driver’s license, and an ID card identifying the victim as Ms. Thitirat (surname withheld), a 47-year-old resident of Bangkok. The body was handed over to the foundation for further autopsy at Nakhon Pathom Hospital. Mr. Surachet (surname withheld), 32, the first person to discover the body, who works as a farmer nearby, reported that he was searching for banana shoots that morning when he was overwhelmed by the strong stench. After following the smell, he found the body submerged in a water channel and immediately notified the police. Police contacted the victim’s family, who confirmed that Ms. Thitirat had been missing since 10 September 2024. She had last been seen driving a black MG sedan, leaving her home in the Din Daeng area of Bangkok to transport a passenger to Nakhon Pathom. Investigators believe that Ms. Thitirat may have been attacked and killed by the passenger, who then stole her vehicle. While police are still exploring other motives, they are focusing on robbery and murder. CCTV footage from various locations is being reviewed to trace the missing vehicle, which has been tracked heading south. GPS signals records from the car, shows that on September 13, the car was detected in Nakhon Sawan. CCTV cameras in Phuket recorded the vehicle on September 14, near Thalang District Office and the local police station. Phuket provincial police and Region 8 officers have been alerted, with instructions for all units to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working swiftly to apprehend the suspect. -- 2024-09-20

  7. Picture from responders. In a shocking crime, two bodies were discovered stuffed into the back of a pickup truck abandoned in a rice field in Kalasin province. The victims, a father and son, were found brutally murdered, and police are now investigating the case as a homicide. At around 9:00, local police were alerted to the discovery of the bodies in a pickup truck parked in a remote rice field in Non Sawan village, Nong Itao subdistrict, Yang Talat district. Upon investigation, officers identified the victims as 62-year-old Mr. Rian and his 32-year-old son, Mr. Piyapong, both residents of Yang Talat. According to preliminary reports, Mr. Rian was found with a gunshot wound to his left side, while his son showed signs of severe trauma, including head injuries from a blunt object, ligature marks on his neck, and a gunshot wound under his left armpit. The bodies were found lying atop one another in the bed of the Toyota pickup truck, which also contained a single cow standing unharmed. Further investigation at a nearby forest area, about 500 metres from the crime scene, uncovered shell casings, rope, shirt buttons, and bloodstains, suggesting that the murder took place there before the bodies were transported the short distance across the provincial boundary back into Kalasin. Residents reported seeing the two men in the area the previous afternoon but had assumed they were resting. The victims' relatives, including Mr. Piyapong’s wife, revealed that the father and son were cattle traders who had left home in the early hours of September 18 to conduct business as usual at a local cattle market. Mrs. Piyapong last spoke to her husband at 9:00 that day, but became concerned when subsequent calls went unanswered, prompting the family to begin searching for them. Police suspect that the murders were a targeted robbery, as the victims had reportedly been carrying 100,000 baht in cash from cattle sales, along with a gold necklace, both of which were missing from the scene. The attackers, believed to be a group of at least three, are thought to have known the victims and lured them into the fatal encounter. Authorities from Kalasin and Maha Sarakham provinces are now collaborating in a joint investigation, as the crime spanned both jurisdictions. They are working to gather further evidence and pursue suspects to bring those responsible to justice. The victims' family, devastated by the loss, has called for swift action in arresting the perpetrators. -- 2024-09-20

The incident took place around 06:30 at the Nong Kankrao intersection on Ban Bueng-Klaeng Road, in Klaeng district, Rayong province. Police officer Lt. Anupong Phuangpee from Klaeng Police Station received the emergency call and immediately coordinated with medical staff from Klaeng Hospital and rescue teams. The driver, identified as Mr. Plern, 46, testified that he was driving for Grab, transporting the two passengers from Bangkok to the Chanthaburi border. While approaching the intersection, his car rear-ended the oil truck. He expressed deep regret for the tragic outcome but considered himself lucky to have survived without injury, crediting his survival to a ‘Thao Wessuwan’ amulet he wore around his neck, a gift from a wandering monk. Mr. Anan Sa-ard, 38, the driver of the oil truck, stated that he had been transporting oil from Chonburi and was just starting to move after the red light when the incident occurred. He was initially unaware of the crash due to the truck's size and load but was alerted by another driver and stopped to check, discovering the car stopped at the rear of his vehicle. Police have begun questioning both drivers to investigate the cause of the accident and will follow legal procedures. 14. Picture of the burnt charcoal at the scene. A family of three, consisting of a father, mother, and their young daughter, was found dead in their rented home in Pluak Daeng District, Rayong Province. A note was discovered at the scene, and initial investigations have found no visible signs of trauma, with authorities suspecting CO poisoning or suffocation as the cause of death. In the morning of September 18, at 09:00, Pol. Sub-Lt. Natthaphon Chumpoo of the Pluak Daeng Police Station was notified of the tragic incident. The victims were discovered in the bedroom of a one-story townhouse located in Soi Mab Yang Phon 14, Mab Yang Phon Subdistrict. The deceased were identified as Mr. Saiyan, 50, the father; Ms. Kanokorn, 43, the mother; and their daughter, Anyaporn, 12. In the room there was a metal bowl containing charcoal remains, believed to have been used to fill the room with smoke. Authorities collected evidence from the scene, and forensic officers from Pluak Daeng Hospital conducted preliminary examinations. The absence of any external injuries on the bodies led doctors to initially suggest suffocation and carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death. The bodies have been sent to Pluak Daeng Hospital for further autopsy to determine the precise cause. Ms. Thongkoon, 46, a relative of the deceased, reported her suspicions after noticing the family had not left for work. Upon enlisting help to break into the house, the tragic discovery was made. She revealed that both parents suffered from depression, while the daughter had autism. The family had previously lived in Bangkok but relocated to Pluak Daeng following business troubles. Ms. Thongkoon mentioned that she had been closely supporting the family and was shocked by the incident. The owner of the rented house, who had leased the property to the family for a year, expressed disbelief, describing them as kind and good-natured people who had never missed a rent payment. The deaths came as a complete surprise to him. The investigation into the exact cause of this event continues. -- 2024-09-19

Police believe the infant had been dead for approximately two days before being found. A search is now underway to identify the mother. On September 18, officers from Sai Noi Police Station, alongside volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived at the scene in response to reports of a newborn’s body floating in Khlong Ha Roi, Moo 2, Khlong Khwang Subdistrict, Sai Noi District, Nonthaburi Province. Medical professionals were called in to assist in the investigation. The body of the infant, found to be in good physical condition, was retrieved from the water by rescue workers. Preliminary examination revealed an elastic band tied around the umbilical cord, and it is estimated the infant had been deceased for around two days. Ms. Daraporn Kongprasert, 52, wife of the local village headman and a volunteer health worker in the area, reported that a resident had alerted them to the body. Upon inspection, they found the infant floating near a bridge about 20 metres from where it was initially spotted. Ms. Daraporn described the body as being face-down, with the newborn’s skin still red, and with the umbilical cord attached. She suggested that the body might not have been abandoned by a local, as she doubted anyone from the village would commit such an act. Ms. Daraporn speculated that the perpetrator might have been a migrant worker, given the significant population of migrant laborers living in the area, with many residing in nearby dormitories and working in local factories. She also confirmed that no local women were known to be pregnant, based on her role as a health worker. Police officials stated that they have photographed the scene and interviewed local residents but have yet to identify any suspects. Authorities plan to continue gathering information and will summon the responsible party for questioning. The infant's body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science for further examination to determine the exact cause of death and collect additional evidence. -- 2024-09-19

  21. Residents of Mod Tanoi Village on Libong Island, Trang province, are calling for government assistance after a 4 metre high wave destroyed homes, leaving many without shelter. The high waves, measuring between 3 to 4 metres, devastated coastal homes, many of which had legal ownership documents. Of the 15 homes affected, 8 were completely destroyed, while 7 suffered partial damage. Debris and scattered belongings littered the area, with residents having been unable to evacuate all of their possessions in time. For homes partially damaged, villagers are living in fear of more waves and have begun dismantling their properties, removing roof tiles, wooden frames, doors, and windows to save materials for future use. Local officials have provided immediate assistance, bringing heavy machinery to clear the beach and using fallen trees as a temporary barrier against further damage. However, villagers fear that the waves, expected to intensify in the coming days, could cause more destruction. This latest disaster follows similar incidents in the past, with severe coastal erosion having claimed homes over the years. Anupong Temkot, a 39-year-old resident, said, "The waves today, over 3 to 4 metres high, are the strongest I've seen in over a decade. More homes are likely to collapse in the coming days as the sea level rises." He pleaded for government intervention, emphasizing, "Fire might leave us with a place to stay, but these waves take everything, our homes, our land. Many of us are forced to live with relatives or rent temporary accommodation." Another villager, Walaiporn Tingkep, 45, urged the government to provide new housing for displaced families. "Three to four families are now crammed into a single rental home. We don't know how long this can go on," she said, tearfully recounting the destruction. The estimated damage for each home ranges between 200,000 to 400,000 baht, with some villagers struggling to salvage their belongings before the waves swept through. Nattawat Taleluk, the village headman, highlighted the severity of the situation. "This is the worst destruction I've ever seen. Without intervention, this entire community could be lost to the sea within the next few years," he warned. Despite earlier promises of government funding for a seawall, no progress has been made, leaving the villagers vulnerable to future storms. With over 367 households and a population of more than 1,100 in Mod Tanoi Village, the need for long-term solutions is urgent. Villagers continue to wait for sustainable government action to prevent further erosion and provide safe living conditions. -- 2024-09-19

  23. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A soldier narrowly escaped death after his car was submerged in water, with in it, for nearly half an hour. Rescue teams described the incident as miraculous when they managed to pull the man from his vehicle. The soldier later shared the survival techniques that helped him stay alive in such a critical situation. On September 18, 2024, rescue teams from the Prachanukul Ratchaburi Foundation were dispatched to assist a man whose car had plunged into an irrigation canal in Hin Kong Subdistrict, Ratchaburi Province. The vehicle was submerged for 30 minutes before the soldier was rescued. According to the foundation, the victim, a 37-year-old man in military uniform, was driving near a military base in Ratchaburi when he lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to a fainting spell. The car slid into the irrigation canal and slowly sank underwater. Witnesses immediately alerted the authorities, and a rescue team was mobilised. The situation seemed dire, with no immediate way to rescue the man trapped inside the car. When the rescue divers arrived, they quickly developed a plan. An emergency medical officer from the Prachanukul Ratchaburi Foundation, recounted that the emergency call came in around 14.00. Upon arrival, they discovered that the car had already been underwater for approximately 15 minutes. Rescue efforts continued for another 15 minutes, and the situation looked grim, with the team believing the driver was likely deceased due to the extended time underwater. However, while assessing the scene, rescuers noticed bubbles rising to the surface, indicating the possibility of air still being trapped inside the vehicle. As they were about to execute their plan, a military camouflage sleeve emerged from the water before quickly disappearing. One of the divers immediately dove into the water to save the man. The soldier, who was visibly weak and struggling, repeatedly bobbing above the water’s surface. The diver secured the soldier and pulled him to safety with the assistance of other team members onshore. Remarkably, despite being submerged for so long, the soldier survived. The soldier was rushed to the hospital after being rescued. In a preliminary interview with the soldier, it was revealed that he had remained calm during the ordeal. He refrained from opening the car door, knowing that the pressure from the water would prevent him from escaping. Instead, he waited for the car to fully submerge. Luckily, his vehicle was equipped with manual roll-down windows. As the water pressure equalised , he was able to roll down the window and push himself out, making his escape possible. -- 2024-09-19
