  1. How long do murder investigations take in your countries?

I guess from your posts every brutal crime is solved immediately back home with 100% success rate.

Oh is there a murder investigation going on.

I did notice some form of comic opera. Now we have another statement for the ptess to ridicule.

How about we talked to him and so were able to rule him out. Was he or was he not seen on the Island before the murders? To be sure of his innocence did the police take his DNA. Oh no of course not. We have to respect his human rights. Was his dear families DNA taken of course not, same reason.

  2. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday vowed to tackle influential rackets and illegitimate businesses on the tourist island, and pledged to punish soldiers or police patronising these people or their activities.

    Dear General P,

Unfortunately this ideal measure, is all too little and all to late, this is not just a problem in Kho Tao, but is infact a serious massive and major problem at every tourist destination in the Kingdom of Thailand.coffee1.gif

Give him a chance, so far, I think he has managed to clean up a lot already

What has he cleaned up already?

Is that a serious question? Did you even try to look a little into what have been done before you asked that question?

Yes it is a serious question. There have been many soundbites, some good work, like clearing of beaches in Phuket, but this can hardly be classed as clearing a lot. I may have missed all the other things that have been done?

He's cleaned up the Bangkok traffic situation & & the taxis/Tuktuks lol

I also seem to remember he done something in Pattaya?

  3. MURDERS

Koh Tao: police fail another day

    The Nation

Latest DNA test results, mostly on migrants, come back negative; police waiting for news on 3 'new' suspects tested

KOH TAO: -- POLICE hunting the killers of two British tourists on Koh Tao failed again yesterday to link suspects to the crimes, as DNA tests on 30 out of 64 samples collected mostly from migrants on the island did not match any found on the victims' bodies.

Yesterday was the eighth day since the murders but police have yet to reveal solid clues or the likely motive. The officials were waiting for results of DNA tests of three 'new' suspects: two Thais and a migrant who looks like a man seen on a close-circuit television camera.

However they have confirmed that two weapons we used to kill the pair - which led them to believe they are hunting at least two people.

The body of Hannah Witheridge, the young female backpacker slain on the island, meanwhile, left Bangkok for her home country. Her family said in a statement: "We can confirm that we have now returned to the UK with our beautiful Hannah. As a family we feel enormous relief to have Hannah back at home where she belongs."

Her body was found next to David Miller, also 24, on the beach of the resort island on Monday morning. Both were bludgeoned to death.

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang said yesterday that officers would have to widen the search to be beyond the island.

"We have now confirmed that the killing weapon is not only a hoe found stained with blood, but also a wooden club. This made us believe that there are at least two attackers," he said.

Somyot said police had a theory that the killers may come and left the island on the same night. "Koh Tao is an area where people, Thais, migrant workers as well as foreign tourists come and go all the time," he said.

Police have held one man, however, identified as Lerpong Suksomboon, an attendant on a speedboat for tourists between Koh Samui and Koh Tao. He was detained after residents alerted police that he was hiding in a cave on Koh Samui - and came out from time to time and asked for food.

    Under influence of drugs

Police on Sunday night questioned Lerpong but he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He reportedly kept saying he did not beat to death the tourists. Police collected samples of his hair and fingernails for DNA tests at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Police General Hospital.

Police yesterday took two of his friends into custody; one was also high on drugs and the other, identified as Jom, is the driver of a long-tail boat. Police learnt that they had been on Koh Tao on the day of the murder.

Some fishermen fishing off Kanom district in Nakhon Si Thammarat province alerted police that they found a Thai man on a speedboat named "Little Duck" speeding south from Koh Pha Ngan. The man stopped by and asked for directions to Naiprao Island in the district. But he changed direction to Pakpanang district in the same province after his boat encountered a marine police boat on Naiprao beach.

Meanwhile, Pol Maj Gen Kittipong Kaosam-ang, a Surat Thani police commander, asked the media not to report in-depth investigation results, saying it may give some clues to the culprits. But he revealed that Thais may have been involved in the murders and had tried to destroy evidence linking them to the attacks. Some people on Koh Tao had given false information to police in a bid to divert attention.

Somyot told reporters that Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha and his deputy Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, telephoned him every day to know the latest developments in the case.

Police have worked closely with officials from the British Embassy and they are still confident that they will eventually arrest the culprits. It was not necessary to send investigators to Thailand to help, they said.

Government spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp said the PM ordered police to quickly bring the culprits to justice. Officials at the island, plus business owners and have been told to help provide advice on safety issues to tourists.

If the dear PM really wants to keep up with events, he should register with Thaivisa.

  4. Hopefully the gravy train that is UK pensioners living in Thailand will be over soon. Not only should the UK govt tax them but their pensions should be taxed further by the Thai authorities. What have they contributed to the coffers here? Nothing. Pay taxes and stop expecting a free ride. Contribute to Thailand and then those of us who have paid taxes here their entire working lives might even have a smidgin of respect for you.

Bitter and twisted jealousy is such a negative emotion that could affect your health. If you live long enough, you will become a pensioner one day too, but be careful you don't spend all your 600 baht per month in one day now.

    The guy has a point.

Retirees don't contribute to the infrastructure, policing, health care, schooling, yet some even try to use the 30baht scheme, complain about policing, the lighting in their street, the garbage etc..the list is endless here on thai visa.

The silly comment I spend my money here, support a thai spouse ( how ridiculous a statement is that!) - all voluntarily and all for your own self consumption and own needs not for the general good of thailand.

I am nearer to pension age , paid a fortune in taxes here..can't say I am impressed with all this old type moaning..it is criminal to tax UK state pensions period, but retirees contribute very little in the scheme of things. In Fact they pay no income taxes in Thailand yet are resident here for taxes purposes as defined by thai tax laws..which by the way you can pay voluntarily if you want to declare it..

It is not a negative emotion, why does everything have to be emotional it is simply stating a fact you live in a country more then 6 months a year and you don't pay taxes!

You don't live in the UK, your monies are transferred over tax free because of allowances..that makes sense as you contributed and don't use UK services. But here you do use services, the lighting, the roads etc..so logically you should pay tax here for those services or you want them for free as well, don't you want to contribute to thai society at large .

Being a poor pensioner sucks ! Getting old sucks !

Being a poor pensioner sucks ! Getting old sucks !

I am one but not the other.

You could work longer hours to help provide us with better services... Lighting? Roads? should we also include Police?

Might even have a smidgen (spelt correctly) of respect for you.

    Unlike us for you?

By the way, I do pay taxes here, that are asked/demanded of me.

  6. I may be missing something but isn't the solution not to submit a UK tax return?

That's correct, you are missing something.

I have properties two properties that I rent out in the UK, as an absent landlord I have two options, either let the letting agents stop me 20% at source or apply to the UK for a tax exemption number. Also an absent pensioner I have to register as such with the pensions people, so I feel a tad difficult for me not to submit a tax return. Don't even think of going down the route of not informing the pensions people, tried that still waiting for the outcome, (nearly a year now)

  8. I have not gone past the first couple of answers. I am sorry put I have to jump in with. It is totally unbelievable, I cannot believe how inept, how incapable these people are. Shame on all that are involved in this case, right from the very top down.

Why ask the Americans. Why don't they admit their incompetence and invite Scotland Yard to come over and sort it out. If they are worried about face, they should do it now before they look even worse in the eyes of the world. Who are following this case.

  9. Just when you think the BIB couldn't have handled this any worse you read this gem:

"As for the pair of stained pants found in Miller's luggage, the general admitted that the substance found on the clothing was not blood and that they belonged to Miller and the pair had been put in the victim's luggage by the first group of police officers" (italics added).

Why on earth did the police pack the victim's bag? Did they think it was blood when they packed them? If this was a movie script it would be rejected as being too preposterous to believe.

I sincerely hope the poor families of the victims are not reading any of this. And that the PM is!

Was this a frame-up attempt by the BIB to blame Christopher Ware for the murder or are they just morons?

Probably both since if they were trying to frame Ware why were they packed in Miller's luggage?

They've bumbled the case all along, wasting a lot of valuable time by putting all their efforts on desperately trying to pin it on a foreigner. In their amazing incompetence, they likely got the wrong suitcase and thought is was ware's.

The real killers are long gone, and I feel sorry for the person or people that get framed for this when the police run out of patience and get stupidly desperate.

Did they really get it all wrong or is it intentional?

Hopefully the only good thing, that should prevent a stitch up is the DNA?

  10. The Daily Mail website should permanently be block to safe guard all innocent Thais.

I am not sure if they have been paid by Thaksin or what, but lately have been publishing a lot of negative things about Thailand, and some info is not exactly true. For example, it say Prayuth came to be PM from coup. Not true. Prayuth was elected by >97% of the voters.

Yesterday, Daily Mail has gone non-stop bad mouth Prayuth about his comment to alert women not to expose themselves too much. That is a very good fatherly advise. Nothing is wrong with that.

What rubbish. There has been no General Election therefore the General was not voted in by the people.. He has that role because of the Coup, fact.

How is a woman wearing a bikini on a beach exposing herself too much? Do you live on this planet, bikinis are worn safely all over the world on beaches all over the world but no one would ever be stupid enough to suggest that a beautiful woman wearing a bikini on the beach was asking to be raped and murdered,, at least not until now.

It is a stupid and insensitive comment that the poor, grieving family now have to read and it came from the PM of Thailand. Bikinis are sold all over Thailand, what does he want to do next, ban bikini sales to women who are beautiful? Who makes the judgement if they are ugly enough not to be at risk? Do you not see how totally stupid this comment was?

This does absolutely no good for the reputation of Thailand when the "leader of the country" is making remarks like this in the wake of a brutal murder.

I can assure you that people across the world will be reading his comments in disbelief exactly as I am.

    Well put! Thank you!

Very poorly put. I don't like this.

In Thailand the culture is NOT to wear revealing clothes.

Anywhere else in the world ?? Middle East for example !!

Everyone always going on about living to the countries rules, but it seems, only when it suits them !

Why does anyone want to wear a bikini in a stinking hot country ? Why do it anyway ?

Abide by Thailand's cultures and don't do it !

You mean like Thai girls walking around with the shortest of shorts on, exposing their beautiful arse cheeks. Ohhh yes and the high heels and a lot of those are Lilly white hi-so's.

  11. Deputy govt spokesman says PM sorry over 'bikini quote'

BANGKOK: -- Deputy government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was sorry after learning that his comment over the murder of British tourists caused a furore.

Sansern said Prayuth was also sorry that part of his statement was selectively played up without taking his intention into account.

Sansern said Prayuth had good intention to protect tourists and wanted to see all sides cooperate to increase security for foreigners.

Why can't he say it himself?

    Exactly +1

  12. The story edited out his comment admitting that "there always was a problem with tourist safety in Thailand". That's the key point people need to understand. But more than that, it seems like the government just accept that and have no plan to improve safety.

Hardly likely. Apparently this island is run by 3 families who have the police in their pocket. There are many places in Thailand which are basically self policing with no preventative effort at all. His statements were completely out of touch with the situation.

Well they know where to start the first random DNA testing.

    jb1

  13. DNA tests would show the ethnicity. DNA tests could easily be linked to relatives of any suspect from Koh Tao.

This smells very much like locals did it and the police can't or won't investigate or arrest them.

And that is why the British Embassy (joke) should insist on Scotland Yard Investigators, both Police and Forensic teams should be called in. Although probably to late for forensics, as the area is probably sufficiently contaminated by now?

    jb1

    Thailand is a sovereign nation.

If the crime occurred to a Thai couple vacationing in Britain would the Thai Embassy have a "right" to insist it be investigated by the Thai Police?

    Ofcourse not.

But most certainly a lot of pressure can and should be applied. Especially if the police force of the country involved were/are pronven to be Inept.

Which isn't Rocket science in this case.
