  1. The air conditioner (inverter type) is LG(S/Korean maker) over 20 years old. I have been using this for the past 18 years. But still work very well and never wastes power. When I run it for 4 hours at 28℃, the meter moves 3 notches. But no more than that. My energy saving tip: 1-Always use A/C it at 28℃. 2-Us the fan and A/C at the same time: 3 fans in my room. 1 in the ceiling. Another 2 on the floor. I often run 2 together to make me feel cooler. One placed on the right(or left) side. Another under the desk(to cool my thigh and waist; where often sweats most while sitting in a chair). 3-Avoid using cooking utensils like microwave/electric kettles/rice cooker with A/C. A/C is the biggest power eater. If you use it with microwave, the unit meter will move a lot faster than without it. This way, my power consumption is always well under control. My power usage is usually between: 40(cool dry season Nov-Feb) 80(hot/humid season Mar-Oct) Unit price in my place is currently:THB8/unit(used to be 6, 18 years ago).
  2. Are you planning to apply for one from outside Thailand? Or are you thinking about status change of visa(e.g. Tourist to Non-immigrant) within Thailand? As far as I have heard of, 400K is enough for Non-immigrant O(on the grounds of marriage with a Thai national). But not for Retirement(another 4000K needed). Why don't you apply for the DTV instead(at Thai Embassy in your home country)? Monetary hurdle looks a lot lower; it costs THB10000- for initial application. And you only have to prove you have at least THB500000- in your bank account at home(no need to move it here)?
  3. Lightning Strikes Leads to Fire at Office in Ammunition Storage Facility... I will only be happy to see it if it's in Poo-tin's land.
  4. 11 minutes ago, phetphet said: Snails also leave a slimy trail behind them. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 555
  5. Looks like their parliament house is just as dirty as its contents; neat and clean with no stench on surface.
  6. Vietnam is also in the same way. Whatever numbers of prostitute in their society, they are not supposed to exist in their statistics. Exactly the same way former USSR publicized to the rest of the world during the Cold War era.
  7. Carefully planned Knife Attack in the place where a crowded place... Reminds me of another similar case that took place in Northeast Asia 16 years ago. I presume if the same happened here, it will turn out like the below footage.
  8. A food delivery rider suffered a personal nightmare when a customer refused to pay for a KFC order, ...a customer had refused to pay for a KFC order worth 850 baht... ------------------------------------------------------------------- To the people working for $1/each delivery, it is certainly a Nightmare... I don't spend 850 a day unless I travel to the other areas in Thailand or buy some gadgets.
  9. Saving Hard Worker's Day. Puzzling story with the heart-warming end. Salute to the kind officers.
  10. You mean the Ghost is Bodyless. But not Tasteless?
  11. Apart from VietNam, Is the cost of stay(living) in the Philippines really lower than in Thailand?
  12. Maybe not so much for the tourists(short term visitors staying only 7-10 days). But for expats, it still is. When we come to know more about this place, we can find out more options to reduce the needless expenditure in our daily life. Frequenting local diners instead of the establishments for the foreigners. Buying daily commodities at the public local market instead of the big supermarkets.; their veggies and fruit are lot more expensive than the local market. Short-term travelers just don't have enough time to learn these things. That is why they usually spend more money(cost of ignorance) for the goods and services. Also because of the holiday makers' psychology, they are often willing to expend more while outside their daily life.
  13. Since my settlement here, I have witnessed quite a few not-so-rich people are carrying supposedly pricy High Brand bags (e.g. Gucci).
  14. In terms of Quality of the services, Thailand can never match Japan. Being one of the world's safest nations. Extremely low rate of murders/robberies. No terrorists' bombing cases(after 1970s). Nationwide safe, fast, and reliable public transportation system. No Rip-off Taxis. Super-clean, tasty, and often very affordable food menus... Dark side is, Heaven to the Customers, Hell to the Workers. They are constantly demanded to exercise Perfection at work for a lot lower pay than most of the 1st World: Their minimum wage is still well below $10/hour. And average 30000/year suicide cases among their declining population.
  15. Vegetarian Festival. Despite its peaceful elegant name, some of the rituals look pretty gruesome... Firecrackers are going off in their faces...
  16. Examples: list of the countries prostitution is legal - Google Search Hope this answers you question. Disclaimer: Some of them are still in the state of the 3rd World.
  17. To prevent such a disaster, there should be a mandatory regular inspection by the govt agency. But for that, operators will have to put the cost of travel up(to cover their expenses for better maintenance). Will it end up as the typical case of Big Voce, Small Action?
  18. Also good for the better transparency of the law enforcement here. If cops can extort those in that industry, they are just like mobsters in uniform.
  19. Voices suppressed for decades are now heard in an open space. Certainly a Landmark Move in Thai history. Good Luck.
  20. LOL. Legalization=Their under-the-table income is gone. (Partial) End of the Police Story from the dark side. Better Money than Reduced Workload, from their perspective.
  21. Before I get my Retirement O, I used to rely on Tourist Visa(from Thai Embassy in Vientiane, Lao). Back then, I always travelled by bus. Sometimes, the driver advised passengers to stay away from the vehicle during the refueling(natural gas) stop; precaution against possible explosion. Every time I hear that, I grabbed my stuff and dashed out of the cabin immediately. And watched how it goes from at least 100m away... Later, a friend of mine(retired Thai engineer) told me that that it could happen only when the fuel system is ill-fitted.
  22. Legalization of prostitution in this kingdom. Means this country One Step Closer to the 1st World Standard. Only If It Comes True.
  23. Exactly. From the time of beginning (in May), headlines were made by the empty barks of the tax chief; his own delusion/wishful thinking alone. As of now, absolutely no guidelines of any sorts released from any sources. Thai Embassy still announces on their website: Foreign Retirees Pay No Income Tax ( as they are not allowed to work/run business in Thailand). Do retirees pay income tax? | ThaiEmbassy.com And look at its date:9/27.2024. It means their advice is Still Current. If you are retirees who can't work here, don't ever be fooled by those accounting firms(very eager to take advantage of the expats' anxiety: Charging hefty fee for their pointless/useless consultation). They don't know what is really going on either.
