black tabby12345 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
BOT's intervention to lower THB. It means the cental bank sold their currency THB in the currency market. Does anyone ever know the rough amount they actually sold? According to yesterday's BKK Post, amount of Thailand's Foreign Exchange Reserve in August this year was:$262 billion. Bangkok Post - Central bank intervenes in baht's exchange rate That is one of the reasons behind strong Bahts. Regarding foreign exchange reserve, This kingdom is ranked 15th of the world(in July 31 this year). US was the No.13. -
The Ministry of Interior and the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) have announced plans to withdraw military forces from Thailand's southernmost provinces by 2027, transitioning the responsibility for public safety to local volunteer forces. ...the government might reassess the plan if the security situation does not improve... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even now, so easy to predict things won't be any better; only get worse than now. Professional army will be replaced with poorly trained amateurs? Sounds like a lunacy itself.

Montagnards Stand for Justice. Google search: Registered in the USA, the MSFJ boldly advocates for the fundamental rights of the Montagnard people, who are indigenous to Vietnam's Central Highlands. Tragically, many MSFJ members have endured severe religious persecution and unjust land grabbing. Montagnards. Some of them worked for US Army during the Indo China War(1960-70s). As the hired mercenaries serving American Special Force Unit Green Berets(A-Team) to counter NVA regulars and irregulars using Ho Chi Minh Trails. Attacking their units & sabotaging their logistics. In Lao, part of Mon tribe played the similar role back then(they started to face Laotian govt's retaliation since they lost US backing in postwar period). The Government of Viet Nam seems to be doing the same to them.

Bangkok Bank + insurance (package deal)
black tabby12345 replied to lostintransit's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Do Expats Need Insurance to Open a Bank Account? Certainly Not. Have never heard of any such a condition like that elsewhere. Certainly not with my main bank either. -
2 Month's Rent as the Security Deposit. Often heard common in Thailand. But not in my case. When I checked in at my apartment years ago, that deposit was only 2000B(less than one month rent itself). And even when the property owner collects 2 months on guests' c/in, it is usually fully refundable on their c/out. Unless any damages are done to the property. Or any money is owed to the landlord. While some places come with the condition it is not returned to the tenants if the tenancy period is less than 3 months(unsure how common this practice is).

Not so bad during good time(while things are going well from your perspective). But once you are off the social ladder, it will make you severely suffer Specially by the cause beyond own control. You will feel yourself badly devalued by losing what you thought important in worldly term; Secure career, well-paid job, comfortable home, social status etc. Obsessive masculinity makes the Bad Time Even Worse.

Have you thought about back-to-back border run just before your current stay permit expires? Depart Thailand by land. Enter one of the countries next to Thailand. And come back here on the same day. This way, you can go without overstay. Convenient border is just up to where you are now. Here is a useful info issued by Thai Embassy. If you don't want to travel alone, contact one of the visa agents that often operate border run vans. You can meet instant buddies with the same purpose to the same border.
