  1. As a north American resident I have used Magic Jack for ages. It works all over the world on your desktop, laptop, Ipad, Smartphone and all land lines. You can choose your phone number in any north American area codes and the small device for landlines can be used anywhere (I use the handset in the hotel room to plug my device. It works for faxing if you connect your device to a fax machine or have a fax application on your computer. For prices: http://www.magicjack.com/account/mjLandingpages.do?page=plans I have no experience for countries codes different from +1 (North American + Bahamas + a few other Caribbean nations.
  2. https://brusselssignal.eu/2024/02/the-eus-hate-speech-laws-are-an-attack-on-free-speech-itself-this-years-european-elections-may-be-the-last-chance-to-defend-our-rights/
  3. Welcome to the wonderful world of Ursula von der Leyen, Magnus Brunner and all the signatories of the Treaties of Maastricht, Lisbon and the 2018 Marrakech Migration Pact. Amazingly the Irish electorate voted against the Treaty of Lisbon (53%) and the French against the Treaty of Maastricht in 2005 but their governments did not follow the people wishes and went ahead with the adoption of the European constitution. This is what JD Vance meant when he made his speech at the Munich Security Conference: “the biggest security threat facing Europe was not Russia or China but the threat from within”.
  4. The champagne brand is Rapeneau (not Papeneau). It’s real champagne from France (Epernay). But not worth “un coup de cidre” as we say in France. You find better Spanish Cava, Italian Prosecco or French Crémant cheaper than THB1700.
  5. https://simpleflying.com/norse-atlantic-lost-3500-per-flight-peak-summer/#:~:text=The picture is horrendous.,was during the peak summer. Yes it may be out of business before the next high season for the S.E Asian market. So buyers beware.
  6. Several take-off and landings in Kai Tak either with Continental (DC10) or Northwest Airlines (747) during the 70s and 80s. Always wandered how such a small terminal and tarmac (per today’s standards) could accommodate such important traffic (especially lots of heavies). Arriving in Kowloon was more exotic than Chep Lap Kok. Remember the Rolls-Royce from the Peninsula loading their elite passengers. The runway is still visible with other activities on it. The whole area has changed so much with development of Tsim Sha Tsui and the new 5 star hotels, difficult to remember how Kowloon Bay was with its junk boats anchored and docked in Victoria Harbour. Never got “smashed” at Kai Tak or airborne as I don’t mix drinks.
  7. I knew Clooney was not the sharpest mind in town but blaming the media for hiding Biden's cognitive decline is the most hilarious statement. The world had already noticef Joe's decline during the 2020 primaries. Obama's doctor himself revealed Joe's beginning of dementia before the 2020 elections as well as special prosecutor Robert Hur for the storage of classified documents.
  8. If he gets the support of the NDP and the Bloc...otherwise Carney is out at the first no-confidence vote. Remember the Liberals had a minority government and they won't increase the number of seats. Let seen how Ontario vote's next week.
  9. Typical attitude of NIMBY (Not In My Backyards) Canadians. Let's others do the fight. Canadian voters deserve what they vote for. Canada will never be a nation, it's a juxtaposition of ethnic ghettos spread along the US border; they have no common goals and aspirations. They all see Canada as a springboard to the US. Economy is in free fall and placed Canada the worst in terms of productivity pet capita. Go woke go broke.
  10. He did not resign. He started his speech by: "I intend to resign..." followed by a number of conditions (Liberals electing a new leader and prorogation of the parliament by the Governor General). At this time he still runs the show like a dictator because he can't be censored by the parliament through a vote of no-confidence and be kicked out. So Canada may have a new non-elected Liberal PM until new elections this Fall....and the results maybe another leftist parliament if the NDP and The Bloc Québécois support the Liberals.
  11. Not true. Visitors can open bank accounts in the US, Canada, France, Spain, etc...Like I said banks don't like dormant accounts so they may require a minimum of deposits and withdrawals to cover their fees.
  12. A tourist can open a bank account in Canada if: 18 years old, passport. proof of address (rental agreement or utility bill), Tax identification number (country of fiscal residence) and make a deposit (or proof of legal income). Same day you can register a provincial or federal corporation, get a driving licence, buy a car and get a GST/HST number. Any interest will be subject to withholding taxes (25%). Capital gains depend on type of assets (realty, stocks, etc...) Visitors can open a bank account in the USA and will be subject to the same requirements as Canada and may need a FINTRAC declaration (not mandatory in certain states and certain banks). As an expat with fiscal residence in Canada, I have been able to open a bank account in Paris with my only address being in Canada. More and more banks don't like dormant accounts or account with hardly any activity so they may refuse a bank account to certain types of visitors.
  13. Who would have expected to see the world population used as guinea pigs in the 21st century, flushing down the toilets all the basic human rights people have been fighting for. In fact sheeple will remain sheeple all their lives, this is the perfect clientele for all socialistic programs, no questions asked, just roll-up your sleeves.
  14. https://www.nphic.org/news/featured-topics/1380-which-u-s-states-are-banning-vaccine-mandates Instead of being so negative about the ban introduced to the state legislative assembly, just take a look at all the states taking the same approach towards the mRNA gene therapies. North Carolina is taking the same path as Montana and other have cancelled all vaccine mandates and even voted in favour of the freedom of choice meaning it will be not be possible for any employer to mandate any therapy. North Dakota will follow as well as Arizona and a dozen more. As we have seen in recent rulings (not from executive orders) reintegration with back pay was the new norm. Also no employer may have access to employees’ vaccination status or medical records. Is it not what the leftists fought for: My body my choice? New legislations are popping up for parental consent for any vaccination required by schools. With RFK jr. we may see new legislation for child protection against abusive vaccination. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/state-lawmakers-see-new-opportunities-to-pass-vaccine-exemptions-after-trumps-return
  15. Working in the industry for 25 years does not make you knowledgeable. Fauci worked for 40 years in the industry and Joseph Mengele had an MD and PhD certification. Knowledge is not a reference, it’s what you do with it. Regarding COVID (if there had been such a virus called SARS-Cov-2), the major outbreak started well before January 2020. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7813667/ Athletes at the World military games in Wuhan mid October 2019 had already experienced sickness symptoms. I was in Xuangchen , east of Wuhan and the Wuhan exodus had already started. Most trains going westbound were almost empty while the eastbound trains for Shanghai were packed. Wuhan lockdown was 3rd week of January. It may have started during the summer of 2019 based on certain observations of social media posts and hospital activity in the Wuhan area. https://www.technologynetworks.com/tn/news/coronavirus-could-have-been-in-wuhan-in-august-2019-according-to-harvard-study-335887 Anyway RT.PCR is just garbage but it made some people very wealthy.
  16. So you just confirm what Red Phoenix meant by mentioning “…Unfortunately the consistency of cycle rate…was inconsistent company to company and country to country. The intent of the test was to be able….the spread”. It reminds me the story of the surgeon who declared to the patient that they amputated the wrong leg….but initially the intent was to save the patient’s good leg from gangrene.
  17. One thing Thai is good for is counting in English. It shows where his (or her) necessities of life stand. If being proficient in English would add a few more baths on the paycheck maybe people would be more inclined to learn English. A good tip also motivate people who try harder.
  18. What can you buy from Canada besides maple syrup? All the rest is made under licence and super expensive.

    Water meter taken

When you buy or lease land, it should be noted on the agreement that service is provided with municipal water (meter number) and electricity (meter number) and when closing the deal, reading of the meters should be done in order to bill the previous landlord and start the subscriptions for the new landlord or leasee. We had in our contract a time frame to settle all these obligations by the seller. Also money should be put aside on a trust account until all bills and taxes are paid by the previous owner. Past this date money set aside would return to the buyer or lessee and the seller would still owe the money plus interest. Thailand is no different from other countries in those matters. Lawyer did not provide a professional service.
  20. We have encountered wild elephants near Kui Buri and near Kaeng Krachan. Once we were on foot taking pictures of the small herd. One elephant approached us showing his discontent. We retreated and he did not follow us. Another time while driving one elephant came out of the bush and started walking towards us at a fast pace. We put the car in rear gear and backed-up. I had seen pictures of elephants sitting on car hoods and it's not pretty. A minute after we passed by another elephant who came out the bush with a bundle of bamboo sticks. This one did not mind our presence. Anyway we have learned to give them the right of way whatever the side of the road they are on.
  21. Never been able to buy anything on Shopee. I put two orders in and both were cancelled after 2 weeks, the sellers could not deliver the items. These orders were COD. On-line shopping in Thailand is not for me. Same with Lazada, my wife ordered French and American brands cosmetics. All the items received were samples with the appropriate mention “Not for Sale” on the boxes. We file a complaint for fraud with copy to Lazada, the Seller and the brands representatives in Thailand to no avail. Now she buys her cosmetics duty free while in transit.
  22. …and one of the shortest flights to New York with a short connection in Seoul. Good business class. Food average. We miss the direct flights with Thai Airways on Airbus 340 twenty years ago. Food was exceptional in business class. The best tenderloin and white asparagus served in-flight.
  23. At least it landed safely in BKK without any collision with an army helicopter.
  24. Thailand never issued sanctions against Russia. In fact they have plans to join the BRICS. Regarding sanctions from Airbus and Boeing, Aeroflot has agreements with other countries for getting the necessary spare parts and for scheduled maintenance. Among them UAE, Turkey, China, India and Brazil. Too much money involved to let such opportunities go by. https://www.business-humanrights.org/en/latest-news/russia-aircraft-parts-made-by-boeing-airbus-are-flowing-to-country-despite-sanctions-customs-data-shows/ https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/03/28/7448566/#:~:text=Ter Assala Parts has been,US%2458 million from Gabon.
