Thailand's 'Dual Prime Minister' System: A Delicate Balance of Power
Highball replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is in such bad economic shape I welcomed his return. Imo he is playing far too great a public role and needs to move to sidelines. Taksin talked a great and innovative game. Many announcements about investments. Much of it won't create many jobs, resources robbers (cheap power). All the red shirt hand outs just vote buying. It inflates currency, adds to inflation. Thailand is totally adrift. It cannot change bc doing so will rock the corrupt foundation of the country. It's already looking far more like Philippines than Malaysia. Education is unmitigated catastrophe. The only schools that are preparing students for a 21st century future are top tier international schools. The rest are just wasting students time. What's worse is let's say a student went abroad and received a top grade stem education and return to Thailand. Well there would be qualified for excellent jobs with lots of opportunity the question becomes how many of those jobs actually exist? Therefore, they're simply better off staying abroad. This provides far better wages and the future. And there is zero future for smart young people in this country. It seems as of late the tire government is completely flipping out about losing certain numbers of taurus. The recent post here wines about potential lack of Chinese visitors. If Thailand expects 40 million tourists a year the time people will feel run through if they haven't already. What's worse about tourism is that only certain companies incorporations, individuals benefit from that narrow stream of revenue. It's the same old export driven economy BS that is fine to get a developing country up and running but decades later they need to move on. The Dynamics in this nation have not allowed it to do so and I doubt it over will -
Minister launches emergency plan as deadly dust chokes Thailand
Highball replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm not in disagreement with your comment. The worst of it hovers over BKK. A halt to crop burning would help the entire nation. I was merely thinking of what can immediately be accomplished, impact the most. The further outside of Bangkok the less the government has control. -
Funny guy. The board used to be called Thai visa. It was at the time about Thailand. The added subforums have done little or nothing to add to the forum in general. Disinformation, misinformation is absolutely everywhere and in almost every subforum. It's largely posted by people outside Thailand. Thai expats: * Add unique perspective from standard bog discussions. * Add insight to living in Thailand and E Asia As more trolls come aboard, more disinformation gets the pass through the board will lose all relevancy. I understand the needs of the eyes and clicks to pay bills. I pay or used to pay at least with quality information gained from 33 years in E Asia. If Aseannow went to subscription it would die in a week and those not in Thailand would be first to bolt. From my perspective your snowbird opinion is totally unwanted as it lacks the perspective of a (Thai) expat - nothing personal.

David Sacks gonna run for governor. You heard it first here Newsome will run for president but no hope of knocking out Vance. If his campaign is solid he could run again. If it's <deleted>e then he's done and will need to run for Senate. Being a pure extension of the Washington DC blob theres no way he's actually going to get a proper job and work for a living. Pelosi's nephew and part of CA dynasty

Libs will be shocked but Cali almost flipped on the popular vote. OC county more votes were cast against Harris than for her. The world has changed dinosaureses I called it home 1967-1985, 1990- 1993, 97-02. The last stint I barely recognized it so many East coasters moved in. Funny.. I'd no issues with the OC immigrant communities . Embraced the food, dated a few young Viet milfs. The people from NY NJ the worst to deal with and especially work with. Miserable people

Bangkok Traffic Innovations Cut City Congestion by 25% in Two Years
Highball replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
This is everyone's excuse. Move closer. Move your office I live on the blue line. I held a series of fairly decent jobs at five different locations over 10 yrs. I took the BTS and the MRT to all of them. The walk to work varied between 600 m and 2 km - on top of the 600 m from my condo to the MRT station. I very often walked that 2K both there and back just for the good exercise of it all and even in the heat. Well, I love the outdoors. I don't even consider myself an environmentalist more do the right thing kind of guy TBH I'm not so much concerned with the spanking brand new commuter vehicles. It's all the crap vehicles including the public buses that spew never ending blackness into the atmosphere. I seen it for better part of 35 years and it's not any better. Back in those days I really didn't spend a whole lot of time in Bangkok I'm sure I probably have a hole in my lung by now. -

What is so difficult about getting Big Ag not to burn and setting immediate vehicle emissions restrictions on 200km radius of BKK. Odd even days until the extreme of it lifts. Free rail for all who park and ride. Can be done tomorrow. Cost is negligible.. next to nothing- 116 replies

Biden's Last Stand: The Twilight Moves of a Defiant President
Highball replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Twilight Moves of a Defiant President Who writes this crap? Angry, bitter and thoroughly confused man. He's not even especially old. My mother is 94 and I have two friends that have mothers that are the same age and their faculties are 100%. Biden should be doing backflips as his crime syndicate family is not going to prison. Additionally they will keep hundreds of millions of dollars. -
This isn't news and that's the problem - it's precisely what is posted. It absolutely should be only Thai news and far more serious. Must be a dozen serious Thai news sources. It's hilarious - Trump wins by 3M votes, electoral landslide, sweep ALL battleground states and yet he is still insulted, mocked and maligned on this forum hourly. I don't support shutting down any speech, but this forum is laughable in it's machinations. There is this ridiculous negative Trump narrative fostered by the butthurt which is patently false. Until this board reflects not only us attitudes, but world attitudes it will sink further into the abyss. People are exhausted of the covid, Soros, DEI, lawfare, dishonest, corrupt, free shlt army agenda. It's done. They lost. You might not know a single int'l Trump supporter, but half the expats I know and meet are pro Trump. EU is lurching right. Canada just dumped Trudeau. Argentina, Mexico. The board is dominated by very woke FSA liberals. They neither reflect sentiments of US and many other countries vis a vis choice of PM, parliament It's simple.. if the tribe continues to get posted people will continue to leave. I understand the board's need for members and clicks, but the members living outside of Thailand really add nothing to The forum. I have absolutely no doubt that during the dark days of covid and during the DEI debacle there were numerous members and posters that had little or nothing to do with Thailand. Within reason, everything on a Thai forum should be about Thailand. Simples The next 4 years are going to be an extremely exciting time to be alive and plugged into this world. Embrace the future if you're up for it. If not - move to Issarn and enjoy a bucolic life

Bangkok Traffic Innovations Cut City Congestion by 25% in Two Years
Highball replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Only idiots buy depreciating assets to sit in traffic when a reasonable rail structure now exists in BKK. Middle class Thai like the privacy, comfort of driving their vehicles directly into city. Especially if you have an overpriced snob mobile. In the west there are parking lots at metro stations for the burbans to park and ride. Some here too and some even within city limits. Ooooh that's to plebian for the new car snobs. Get the heavily polluting vehicles off the road. Non motorized options. I guess this is newspeak for walking. I walk a lot here. Perhaps 5-10k steps daily. Decrease of 10% lol. This is immeasurable and based on what?? So, you drive cross town and it usually takes 90 minutes - now it allegedly takes 81 minutes.. maybe, sometimes 🤯 Thailand is just not a serious place. It can't accomplish much of anything aside from over budget transport projects. How hard can it be to get farmers to stop burning crops? How hard can it be to get old vehicles off the road? Traffic efficiency is great, but BKK has lived with it for 40 years. Timing lights is old technology, old think. Meanwhile.. what's the PM today? Congestion pricing just money grab. It's like we don't want the congestion, but if you pay the extortion.. it's ok. -
Recommend video Thai staff learn English
Highball replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in General Topics
Are you paying her to learn your language? If you can speak Thai why should she learn English? She needs to first learn to identify the alphabet and the phonics that go with it. Putting aside the fact 'maids' don't need to write (or use any) Make a video of each room. Point the camera at objects and then slowly and clearly state what that object is. Do ten objects for each video. You can place cards on objects if she can read English.. also write in Thai. If you're creative you can even do some adjectives and adverbs Make another video about people. This will be names of people, relationships a d most importantly pronouns. Make a video a few on basic verbs and another few on adjectives. Create another on adverbs. Finally, one on colors. That should give her plenty to get her head around and enough English for a cleaner When she can have a rudimentary conversational exchange ask her to try a chatbot online to converse with for practice. There are plenty of videos online she could watch /listen to should she have the desire. My wife learned English on her own talking with me. She'd pushed herself to read although that skill is poor. Her writing even worse. I'm perfectly ok with it bc I'm never going back to learn Thai at 65 other than build vocabulary I never properly learned Thai because there's such a low return for me both in country and especially outside. I had other things in my life that kept me very busy. There's an equally low return for a cleaner to learn English. Don't waste your time asking in the teaching forum they won't have a clue. -

Bad experience teaching in Thailand
Highball replied to bimbumbam's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
Then don't sign the contract. No one forced you to travel half way round the world to pretend to teach. It's all totally irrelevant with AI and where tech is today. So ironic dinosaur teachers don't see this, but wholly unsurprising -

Don't disparage public schools - the best of them are the most competitive in the nation. *Triam *PDS (private/public) *Wittayasorn *Suankularb *Samsen Sattriwittaya Prasarnmit (Intl side) Triam Patt (/1-/5) Bodindecha 1 *Demonstration schools Most of these schools will have far better, brighter students than private schools. Not all mind you - but most. With few exceptions private schools are nothing special although the better ones will pay more than publics. Public school entry salary cutoff is 42k with exception of one special school. The best privates entry is 50-75k with odd outliers of 80-90k. Any lucky dumbshlt can land a job here at 50k. To get 60k usually takes a real teacher or the serious foundation of an up and comer. -

Did a CELTA. That's more than what 90% of teachers can say Professes an interest in the profession. That's more than what 90% can say. Why can't this person obtain a Thai license? Seems eligible. Everyone has to start somewhere and 32k sounds like that's the place. Truth is if the other teachers don't doom your spirit the administration will outright kill it. Education is an abject failure in this country and the massive number of foreigners play a key role in the failure of students to learn English. -
Is Sam Altman actually a woman?
Highball replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Erm .. appears long game is to go public so there goes your conspiracy theory. The US is a republic not a democracy. Plenty of authoritarianism, corruption in "democracies" as well. Look at last four years of Biden administration -

I also find him peculiar looking - like the evil kid super villain in a Marvel movie series destined to hold the world hostage. Openai ironic innit? -
I have HBP and Frank's Sign and probably drink a bit too much. I'm currently taking medication. By all accounts at 60+ I'm in good shape. Active, good BMI, slimish. Absolutely no signs of internal health issues. I would like to have a CTC and or CTA / calcium score tests performed. Well, actually I would like to have all or most of the heart/cardio test performed. I would like to have the pathology done outside in a lab where I can get a large battery of tests done for b1300. Is it too cheeky to bring these tests in if and when I have calcium score done? Would demand their own battery of tests? Bangkok hospital does the CTC a la carte. I have a message in to find out whether I can get the other as well. Experiences St Louis hospital never answers email. Additional tests would be good as well such a stress test, echo, ECG. I'm obviously willing to pay for that. Issue is even at St Louis I'm running into prohibitive prices as they include a lot of cheap pathology tests which seemingly bump the price up into the stratosphere. Comparing the prices and packages is a bit of a nightmare. I've used chat GPT to help me. The basic conundrum is comprehensive packages are 25k++ https://www.bangkokhearthospital.com/en/package/heart-check-up-package https://www.saintlouis.or.th/packages/health-check-up-program/43

Depends on the food. Don't think you would want to use olive oil in Thai food although given the amount of it on the shelves it appears that Thai do. This case I would uuse the lightest possible. I'm currently using corn oil. I think everything is fine in moderation safe for palm oil. Understand the concern and the excitement over seed oil, but unless you're deep frying I don't really think it's an issue. If you can find beef Tallow and you're not averse to using that..
