Safe havens during songkran
According to the emojis, someone is confused about this post. In fact, I've noticed that, regardless of the subject, 'usually' there is one (only) confused person among the various other responses to most of my posts. Many agree. Many disagree. Some love it. Some don't. But only one is confused. I'd hate to think I'm causing you so much confusion. If you send me a message when this happens, I'll be happy to explain.

Flour, potatoes, and rice on a low 'sugar' diet? All of those convert to sugar once in the body. One medium potato contains 'about' 25g of carbs that all turn into sugar. The body can't use a potato as is. It will convert it to sugar for cellular energy. Pasta and rice aren't far behind. Once a week for each is fine on a low-sugar diet, but more than that... it ain't a low-sugar diet anymore!

Safe havens during songkran
Yet another excellent reason to avoid Pattaya!

Safe havens during songkran
Songkran 'can be' fun. If you have kids, it's a delight to watch them play. With a group of friends, it can be a blast, especially for tourists. Get drunk enough, and it's an mobile party! At least until the fighting starts. But after 25 years of it, I'm done. Take away the blocks of ice and I'd consider an hour or two of it again. That's enough. I hope those who want to play enjoy the holiday.

Safe havens during songkran
If you don't want to play, do your daily chores in the morning, before 11am, then stay home. It's only a couple of days.

Thai Government Urged to Boost Road Safety During Songkran Festivities
Better have another meeting and discuss what we haven't done for the past 50 years, just in case we might do it this year.

Dark chocolate
100% cocoa powder, Food-grade cocoa butter, sweetener of choice, (I also add a spoonful of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. ) I buy where ever I can find the best prices, and still not sacrifice quality. As for proportions, I just wing it. Make it as rich as you'd like and as sweet as you'd like. If you prefer milk chocolate, add powdered milk, NOT fresh milk. 🙂

Don't have to be a scientist to know that there are carbs in ALL veggies. While there are no vegetables that contain zero carbohydrates, there are many that have very low carbohydrate content.

Man, I love carbs too! Wouldn't give 'em up for nothing! Same with sweet things. But I'll choose healthy carbs like spinach and broccoli, berries and nuts. And for a sweetener, Monkfruit or stevia if I want to go natural, Allulose or Erythritol for the times I don't. Breads, waffles, cakes, and pastries, just made without wheat flour. And of course, chocolate. I made mine into Almond Bark breakup. Nope... no suffering involved.

LOL! No effort at all! Give up pasta, potatoes, rice, root vegetables, and sugar. Eat everything else. Doesn't get much easier than that. Find a sport you enjoy and go play! My wife plays with her group every afternoon, and I'm in the field 3-4 days a week. Good exercise and good fun!

Is Thailand Still a Good Place to Spend Time if You're on a Fixed Budget?
It's fine for us. Relatively low fixed income, but it's enough for the two of us here to still enjoy doing what we like.

Wonderful! That gives me another four years to not think about it. Thanks.

How long is 'the long run?' I've been following Keto, now going into my 6th year. How long before I start putting on weight? I'm an old guy. If it's another 6 years, that will be fine with me. I probably won't live much longer than that! 🙂

Taxis ! will things ever change ? - Meter car or Taxi Apps or others - Still a scam ?
Yes. There is a Grab page where you can add in stops along the way, with the taxi waiting for you. There are a dozen different options these days, but not so clear in the English translations.

Only 'not healthy' for people still using sugar as their body fuel. Once in Ketosis, the body burns fats as fuel, so our Keto diets need to be about 75%-80% fat, and zero sugar. It took a year, but I went from 110kg down to the 72.5kg that I've maintained for the past 4 years following the Keto lifestyle. AND... you can eat as much chocolate as you'd like! Yes, my Cholesterol IS high. But it's the HDL cholesterol that is up. The LDL and triglycerides are waaay down! If anyone wants to lose weight easily, and keep it off, and needs help, just let me know.

Try swapping the coconut oil for Cacao Butter (unscented, food-grade.) I think it has a better 'chocolate feel' in the mouth, and doesn't need refrigeration, although I do keep it in the fridge. I've been making my own Dark chocolate for the past 4-5 years as I don't use sugar anymore ( I prefer a Keto sweetener,) and find it much cheaper in the long run.

Songkran
If it weren't for the blocks of ice in the water, I'd almost enjoy a day of it. Not 3-4 days of it with all the ice.

You've retired. Why do you spend so much time arguing about Trump?
There are four reasons for my dislike of Trump and his rule; My son, and his two sons, and the rest of America. They will inherit what he leaves in his wake. So far, with just 8 weeks in, he's set back what millions have worked and struggled for the past 50 years to improve. MAFCA Make America Follow the Constitution Again

Are these specs adequate for a home PC?
Unless you're a gamer, or wish to do several hours of heavy video/graphics work each day, it will be fine. Perfect for email, business letters, watching videos, etc.

Thai Ranger Calls Out Italian Tourists for Damaging Coral Reefs
Years ago, before Koh Tao was so popular, and its neighboring island of Koh Nanuan had only a small noodle shop... no beach chairs, no noise, no crowds... But in the bay on the west side of the island, in about 18m of water, was a HUGE Barrel Sponge! It must have been 50-75 years old. It was big enough for a diver to actually drop down completely inside without touching the walls of the sponge. Perhaps 2.5 meters tall and at least one meter inside, with red colored walls about 60cm thick, it was beautiful to see, and an oft-visited dive venue... ... until a Thai tour ship (which used to bring a few hundred Bangkok Thais down for a one-hour swim there every day,) decided to drop its anchor right on top of the Barrel Sponge and completely destroy it. Italian tourists are a problem? Really?

Pai's Big Bust: 7 Tourists Nabbed for Public Cannabis Use
"In public." Just WTF does that mean, legally? If you are smoking a joint while standing under a tree in the middle of a public forest, with no people for 50km, is that still 'in public?' A beach with no one near you for 500m? Is that private enough or still public? How about a small soi at 2 am with no one around? Is that 'in public.' It's certainly not private! Just how many people have to be just how close to you for you NOT to be 'in public' when smoking? Is the law that they can't 'smell' you smoking or 'see' you smoking? Both seem to piss off a lot of people. Just knowing people are smoking cannabis is enough to send some people around the twist! Perhaps a definition of the law might be of some interest, some clarification BEFORE arrests are made?

My Harley Disaster...
If you can't keep a big bike under control in ALL riding conditions, fast or slow, you are not a decent rider. It's THAT simple. Hell, just to pass the Big bike license exam in Japan you have to ride a 20cm wide 2cm thick plank, very slowly, for 15 meters in MORE than 10 seconds without falling off. You are required to ride a Figure-8 without touching the line. The average number of attempts to pass the test is 6 attempts. Even the CHP, when they came for a visit, didn't pass the riding test on their first try. No... if you can't handle your bike, regardless of its size, you are NOT a decent rider. There are many small Japanese women in the motorcycle police corps in Japan. They have no trouble with big bikes, even at traffic lights.

My Harley Disaster...
Best to date! Finally a well-written piece of interesting fiction. Whoever this 'Bob' is, he should get to wear the name. However, any decent bike rider knows enough not to tailgate, especially on a street where the drivers are all rubber-necking, trying to pick out their pumps for the night. This guy is NOT a biker, despite his fancy leathers.
