Thailand's Grim Motorcycle Death Toll Sparks Helmet Campaign
One question is really is about their goals. As you say, they push helmets for a week, then forget about them. Pay your fine and go do it again. There is ZERO incentive for drivers in a hurry to slow down. No reason for a driver to stay in their lane, signal lane changes, or heed warning signs. Why not pass on a blind curve or the crest of the hill? Why not cut inside someone's turn? There are no police on the roads stopping this behavior. And it's this behavior that causes the accidents, not the bare head of a rider.

Thailand's Grim Motorcycle Death Toll Sparks Helmet Campaign
Question: Is the goal to improve road safety? Or only stop motorcycle/scooter rider fatalities? A helmet can reduce the number of motorcycle accident fatalities, but does absolutely NOTHING to reduce unsafe driving conditions caused by unskilled, unthinking, and uncaring individuals who CAUSE accidents that kill riders without helmets in the first place! Actually putting cops on the roads to stop these poor drivers may help.

Acupuncture or Physio?
I've relied on acupuncture for many years. (My first acupuncture treatment was over 55 years ago!) When combined with proper diagnosis (and that IS very important for good results,) acupuncture has completely fixed my problems. That said, I also use Western medicine for some problems, too. Chinese medicine is effective in many areas... but not all. I've found it most beneficial (for me) for problems related to movement, i.e., joint and muscle pain (so you're in luck!) and general energy levels. Sorry, but I'm up north and can only refer you to the clinics I've used here. If you want that info, just ask. 🙂

End of the month Blues
One advantage of being poor is that I never have to worry about exchange rates. So what if it goes down a point or two? At the amount we spend each month, the difference only costs me a few dollars. Not even enough for a meal at Dukes. As it says in the book, 'Own nothing and be owned by nothing.'

So, I got Shingles
CBD oil (without THC) eventually worked for me. I never thought to try Tiger Balm. I still have one 3" circle on my back that really hurts often, so I think I'll give it a try. Lots cheaper than CBD oil, that's for sure!

Is This The Beginning of The End of The American Empire?
I never really understood two quotes I learned in school. Then Trump took over the country. Now, not only can I understand, I can even internalize them. 'Nero fiddled while Rome burned.' 'Let them eat cake.'

Former Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs developed cancer from the covid jabs
Yes, this one study shows proof of elevated spike protein production a year or more after vaccination, which is significantly longer than the spike protein is said and expected to remain in the body. I can't seem to find where it shows proof that the vaccine caused his cancer. I guess that's just implied...

Former Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs developed cancer from the covid jabs
One doctor (whom we may or may not respect) says it's "Problematic?" Does that mean it's been proven? What 'I' listen to are peer-reviewed studies published in respected medical journals. Show me those, and I'll be happy to accept new information. One guy (no matter how bright) saying it's so isn't proof. It's still conjecture.

Former Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs developed cancer from the covid jabs
'Trust the Science' is perhaps the single most absurd comment in use today! 'Science' is anything BUT trust. It's constant research, constant reevaluation, constant questioning. It's never trust. Perhaps 'Believe the Science' might be a better catchphrase.

Former Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs developed cancer from the covid jabs
Proof? Perhaps in an alternate universe where conclusive evidence isn't required. Seeing a spike does not 'prove' cause. It may form a working hypothesis (although biased) for further research. But certainly not 'proof.'

Giving the lonely false hope
Loneliness is not a UK problem. It's a personal one. If you're lonely in Cardiff, you'll be lonely anywhere you go. It's up to you to go out and make friends. It's really not that hard to do. 'The Zen you find on the top of the mountain is the Zen you brought up with you.'

Court Temporarily Backs Trump on Tariffs Amid Legal Storm Over Presidential Power
All part of the plan. Nothing is happening that is unexpected, and all designed to: 1. Remove as much money as possible from the American people. 2. Destabilize the American government. Musk realized that he's gotten as much as he's able, now with hundreds of millions in new business contracts, so he's gone. I wonder who the next favored player will be? Perhaps one of the folks who attended the $1,000,000 a plate dinner Krasnov hosted? (Corruption has never been so blatant before 47.) Both goals seem to be well underway.

Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
A policeman told you this… Thanks for the laughs, guys. Kudos for originality.

What's the dullest place in Thailand?
I wonder how many people in this thread are having conversations with their sock puppets?

Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
That's because it's not a crackdown. Never has been. It's nothing more than a visual display that the police exist.

Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
Open Letter to those who think Police Helmet Checkpoints are set up mainly for farang: We're in Thailand's Rainy Season. Comparatively few foreigners here right now, but NOW is when they are running their helmet campaign. It's true, they DO catch a lot of foreigners not wearing helmets when the foreigners are here. We notice them more than we notice the Thais lining up to pay the same way we 'notice' signs written in our own language without thinking about it, but have to look and actually pay attention when the sign is in a different language. We 'see' the farangs. We don't 'look' for the Thais.

Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
Obviously, very true. I ride every day, and I'd never ride without one. But is the government's goal to save 'one' life... or reduce total road fatalities and injuries? I don't think that's going to happen by just setting up a table on a street corner to catch the occasional rider without a helmet. That might save the rider's life, but do nothing for the accidents caused by the nutter cutting off other drivers, passing on blind curves, and ignoring traffic lights. Here's an idea: Get out on the roads and stop the insane drivers! Putting a helmet on the head of a tourist might save HIS/HER life, but does nothing for the rest of the community. And isn't THAT who the police should be protecting?

Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
The Helmet Crackdown doesn't save lives. It saves money... ... money that the government has to pay every time someone is sent to the hospital and can't pay the bill! That includes Thais! A LOT MORE Thais than farang. Forcing helmet use reduces that cost. If there were a genuine effort made to reduce road injury/fatality, they would put police on the roads to stop the unsafe, reckless driving we see every single day!

'Slap in the face': Veterans group shreds Trump VA cuts on Memorial Day
As a Disabled Vet who relies on the Veterans Administration to stay alive, I object strongly to Musk and Kranov's reduction in staff, programs, and funding. I earned my patriotism with blood. I enlisted. I gave my country 110% when it asked me to do so, and nearly paid with my life. So many did pay. So many came back broken. Do you think it's right or moral to take away the life-giving support we Veterans require and were promised? We gave 110% when our country asked! Why is the United States treating Veterans this way? Short answer: Musk and Krasnov.

Steady Eddie - Mea Culpa
I'm just curious why people enjoy watching others die slowly? What's the psychology behind it?

The weather is atrocious out there.
It's rain. Just water. And it happens for a few months every year. Do you leave the Kingdom like the Burn-Season folks do?

Without our smartphones, where would we be in 2025?
My first dorm in college (a small rural school) right after high school had this phone on the wall. Turn the crank, tell the operator the 4-digit number you wanted, and she'd connect you. Obviously an old dorm. The new dorms had the new-fangled push-button phones.

Is "Putinization" a more accurate way to describe what Trump is doing to America?
If it were just Krasnov I wouldn’t worry. He’s failed at everything he’s done. BUT… I am worried about what those who are controlling him will do next.

Without our smartphones, where would we be in 2025?
A fantastic tool... or a mind-capturing monster. It's your choice. My smartphone stays in my pocket until I need one of its functions. I make less than 3-4 calls a month, but use the phone two dozen times a day for paying bills, looking for traffic jams, checking the weather, looking for an answer to a question (at least 3-4 times a day,) taking a picture, listening to music, or reading a book. It's a tool. Like any tool, it can be misused in the wrong hands.

Have you noticed? They are still using attacks on Harris and Biden as their excuse for all their failures that have resulted from Musk and Krasnov's actions in the first 150 days. Nothing has changed. Blame the other guy.
