  1. I don't need to work in Thailand

(I work remotely for a company in the UK)

But you do work in Thailand.

It would not be affordable to form a company and pay all the social fees for 4 staff members as well as office space as this would diminish my salary and I would be working hard for nothing.

In addition you would have to pay income tax on, I think, a minimum of 50,000 baht a month. Plus all the fees to renew your extension and permit. This is what many do if they wish to remain here.

So yes. I guess as you say you cannot legally remain in Thailand and pay no taxes, as you wish to do.

  2. Richard,

i was more interested in whether it is a sticker or is stamped/etched into the muffler?

My next quest is whether they all have to be tested in Thailand or will Thailand accept EU certification.

The logo needs to be stamped or etched into the muffler. Often a sticker will specify that the exhaust is according to TIS 341-2542.

Also not forget that the TIS 341-2542 standard only specifies the way a exhaust system is made, materials, corrosion resistance and material thickness. It doesn't specify the amount of maximum emission of prohibited exhaust gasses...

About the maximum exhaust noise, we have to compare the maximum Thai exhaust noise to professional motocross bikes which are limited to 94dB... Most exhaust systems with a muffler will stay within the Thai rules....

By the way if you interested I have the full TIS 341-2542 specifications available... http://www.motorcycle.in.th/filemgmt/visit.php?lid=256

So does anyone have a picture of an Akropovic exhaust with TSI stamped/etched on it?

  3. Judging by the video, the exhaust is legal if it passes that test of under 95Db at 5000 rpm measured 0.5 meters away at a 45 degree angle.

You could get a Db meter on your smart phone and measure your exhaust.

If it passes the 95 threshold, be prepared to pay fines.

If it stays under 95Db, then you might have to prove it to the cops trying to fine you.

Whether they think a phone is qualified to measure Db is another matter entirely.

    95db for bikes under 125.
    99db for bikes over 125
Or at least it used to be.
But as they say at the discretion of.....
  4. "and superior to anything that China can put to sea. "

So, you don't count China's recent launch of an aircraft carrier?

I'm not a navel expert but does the Chinese carrier currently have any serviceable aircraft on it? Thailand already has an aircraft carrier but has obviously decided it doesn't really need it as Thailand has no worldwide ambitions!

  5. If trying to obtain a Thai license just bring international license showing motorcycle endorsement to Land Transport office, and they will exempt you from riding test. As I recall still had to do a color test, and something else--so I don't think it exempts you completely.

You'll have to sit through the hour plus video thing as well as colour/peripheral vision and reaction test. As long as the Euro license is current!

BTW There is no such thing as an "international" license only International Driving Permit (not needed for applying for a Thai license) which is basically a translation document, which Thailand also has.

  6. Seriously bored and trolling I reckon.

Could be but his lack of personal confidence maybe what is effecting local sales if the comment about sales is correct.

With locals it is all about the look. The average Thai male cannot pass a window without looking in it and fixing his hair. So if someone has started the ugly , not cool rumour then they will all feel self conscious. have their masculinity questioned and feel not cool riding one when in fact it could be the other way around. Also Thais do not perceive empathy for disabled people so if the bike has been scarred with the disabled tag, which would be quite easy on social media for shallow, self serving people to do then that could also cause lack luster sales.

If I needed a scooter which I don't I would buy one simply because it is different. Then i would overtake other scooters on the outside etc.

Tricity will sell lots in Europe if it compares favorably with Piaggio.

Oh and I still have performance variators if anyone with a Tricity needs a bit more zip.

  7. Like other things in life it is not what you have but how you use it. smile.png Location is a big factor as is distance traveled and type of travel.

As has been said small capacity ones are all much of a muchness. They all do what it says on the box and all return essentially the same fuel mileage.

The basic choice would be semi or fully automatic and then engine size. Semi automatics may get slightly better fuel mileage depending on the rider.

Then it is styling like say Scoopy vs. Zoomer-X both the same engine just different bikes. Honda has 150 PCX Yamaha has 125 Nuovo SX etc.or Tricity

Some say Yamaha technical/build quality is a bit higher but Honda sells more?

Next size up Honda has Forza, Sym has Joymax. Suzuki has Burgman (bit smaller engine) In this scooter range 300 is not always 300!

Top end? BMW has C 600, Yamaha has T-Max

Best advice buy the one you like from the nearest dealer. Or narrow it down and come back.
