  1. That is one awesome response VocalNeal. How come you have an opinion when you obviously have seen nothing? -"I turned off from the whole experience when the cheesy music started". The truck hasn´t even showed up when the cheesy music starts..

Sure I have an opinion just like you.

When I say i turned off from the whole experience that is a figure of speech.

    turn off

    2.
    Slang

    a.
To affect with dislike, displeasure, or revulsion:
That song really turns me off.

    b.
    To affect with boredom:
The play turned the audience off.

    c.
To lose or cause to lose interest; withdraw:
    turning off to materialism.

    d.
    To cease paying attention to:
The student turned off the boring lecture and daydreamed.

I watched the whole thing waiting to see what the big deal was. In the end it was a damp squib (I'll let you look that one up)

Maybe I have simply been driving/ridding in Asia too much to be impressed?

  2. Sorry I don't see it.

Are you upset because he was driving at the same speed as you? Because he may have actually been enjoying his drive? Have you ever driven a Hino truck like that to know what the limitations are as far as cornering ability, braking power and the like. Probably a lot better than you think. Are you saying you are righteous because you have a helmet camera?

I turned off from the whole experience when the cheesy music started. Sounds to me like just another foreigner in Thailand down-the-nose whinge.

  3. What the car excise tax has to do with the personal income tax ?

Don't know abut the car scheme but generally not everyone pay income tax or even the correct tax so charging excise on a luxury vehicle is a way of collecting that tax. You know the sort of thing. Local government official gets 60,000 a year on which he pays tax but can afford to buy a Merc!! Also this scheme is paid for by tax payers so if you don't pay any tax then same logic as above applies.

  4. The rightmost lane is supposedly for passing only, stay in it too long and the Brown Meanies will get you. It's also an oft used excuse to pull you over for a little tea money (no they don't buy you tea).

The law in Thailand says drive in the left lane except when passing. Often misinterpreted especially for motorcyles. But yes sitting in the outside lane if the other lanes are clear....

In Europe it's called lane discipline.

As for the BKK trip I would not worry about the trip down it is when you get here that the fun starts!

  5. Avoid Rama 4 pet cliinic in Bangkok. We brought our dog there to be spayed, they did poor work and he died from internal blledding. Furtherk in Thailand you have no recourse and vets accept noresponsibility

Would like to add a nail in the coffin (sic) for this clinic. If it is the one near Sukhumvit soi 42 and Sio Farm Wattana.

Took one of our dogs there for a routine procedure and even though he was vaccinated he caught Parvo virus. He has been to Chula and diagnosed and was on immunoglobulin treatment but has died. One can only assume this is down to lack of hygiene at said clinic.

    Very sad.

  6. Not being a chemist I think that LPG is a byproduct of oil refining whereas NGV is what you are referring to IE. natural gas.

Why doesn't US use NGV. Probably for the same reason I wouldn't use it. Lack of range and lengthy fill time.

Now as a lot of houses have gas piped to their houses there might be an argument for having a compressor in the house and refilling the vehicle at night form the "mains". However the oil companies lobby is too big and the safety Nazi's would have a field day.

  7. The exhaust inc shipping will cost 10,700Baht, if i get hit with the full 30% import tax, then i'll be looking at 13,940baht total. about 3000Baht cheaper than the cheapest place i've seen in Thailand smile.png

Cheers that will keep me honestsmile.png

  8. Sounds interesting.

My unit is about 6 years old and could do with a clean out. Do you think the vinegar will work on the shower head also?

Unfortunately on my unit the shower head can't be taken apart and the little holes are getting clogged as well as squirting water all over the place.

I cleaned the (plastic) shower head with that acid stuff from Tesco Express. In the cleaning section in a bright orange or purple bottle sometimes with a rubber clove attached. I had some already for cleaning the tiles. I just held the shower head horizontal and dribbled some acid onto the holes.

Vinegar or Coke works as well. Just but a large 1 litre coke and dunk the shower head into a container full of Coke.

  9. CQ,

Check or replace the air filter.

Fill up the autolube tank and run it for at least one tank of premix gas unless you are 100% sure auto lube is working. Previous owner may have been using premix for a reason. After say 1 tank of premix check the auto lube and if it has gone down top it up and try to exstimate the amount (shot glass) then you can calculate the ratio. If OK use normal fuel and take it for a hi speed blast for a a few Kms to blow out any residual oil.

Then get you mech to clean out the exhaust. If he doesn't know how, unlikely, but the last resort way is to heat up the inlet side with an oxyacetylene or oxypropane torch and when red turn of the fuel and simply use oxygen. It will burn out all the gunk. You will of course have to have the exhaust painted after!

  10. I am an IT guy, I always feel automobiles are dead industry... every things run on Gas since the invention of it... unlike IT which we have more efficient way with reducing costs..

I had to laugh at this. It seems like every new version of Windows requires more computing power not less.ohmy.png MS engineers should be made to work on10 year old PC's when developing new versions.

And when was the last time anyone got laid in the back seat of a PC?

    Proirties, priorities. rolleyes.gif

  11. I have an acquaintance who once had a man armed with a rifle in his bedroom. I never asked the outcome. He now has an electric security fence which keeps intruders out. His wife does now have a pistol and he bought a shot gun. Both on the advice of and sold by the police.

I believe he bought a clay pigeon launcher and practices occasionally in his yard. It is quite a large yard.

Anyone within earshot knows he has a shotgun!

    Anecdotal:

I was told once if you do decide you need to shoot and intruder in your house, god forbid, after the fact shoot at least one round into the ceiling.

"I fired a warning shot but the intruder did not respond" Apparently it is impossible to tell which shot was fired first.
