  1. Like this . It may be a plastic cowl but it really doesn't look like a 2 stroke.

Maybe to the uninitiated, but to anyone who knows about the two different models, that is the 2 stroke because it has a radiator.

If one is riding behind one or is passed by one in the street the smell would tell you it is 2T

Dohhh. I know. I was just saying they did a good job of the disguise!

Well. I don't think they tried to make it look like a 4T or disguise the fact it is 2T . That would assume the 4 is better than 2. I think they just tried to make it look bigger as the cylinder of a WC engine is quite small compared to an AC one or to hide all the gubbins.

  2. Are you in a house or condo? If house does it have wooden or plastic windows? If a house with wooden windows I can describe a simple alarm but too much typing if you live in a condo.

Cable is more difficult to cut than chain so use a cable at home. You need to lock both wheels , always. Make it a habit, that way it takes more than one guy to lift. A simple bucket filled with concrete is quite heavy so now they need three guys! Anything substantial. PCX has a drum rear brake so any large padlock with a long shackle around one spoke, disc lock for the front.

When out and about . If you can find a motorbike alarm one the trips if the bike is moved it gives peace of mind. They are not expensive. Then if the bike is touched it draws attention to itself.

Sometimes it is where you park not how you park. Ie. always park next to a manned security post etc. If routine parking you can find a place better than others where you can tip the security guy. Or pay them to wash it!

  4. I empathize but if Kang Kachan is too far you are limited to Bira and maybe Khao Yai. Not sure how many race meetings a year but not a huge number. No shop, no storage, only Sunday's off. I think what you want is a big ask. For a fix? Karts would be easier

Fastest rental karts here would be at Pattaya Kart Speedway. They are not anywhere near new but fast enough to get ones heart rate up! Used to be 500 baht for ten laps. Every now and again there is another "racer" there!

The "downtown" track way down at the end of Walking street has probably the best surface. Ok they are 4 stroke but as you already know being quick in a lower powered vehicle is more difficult than...If was retired and lived in/near Pattaya I would probably start of by going there every day and keep trying to improve my lap time.

Karting Association of Thailand has a Seniors class here for over 40's or heavier guys! retired doctors etc.. that sort of thing. About 4 or 5 expats. They run Rotax 125 or used to.

Pizza company's Thomas would be a good contact as he started in Karts etc. if i can dig out some contact info I'll send you a PM.

From a purely philosophical point of view different aspects, periods of life offer varied experiences. Embrace Thailand's differences rather than trying to recreate a different period in your life. Buy a bike and go riding in the sunshine. Need 100% concentration, need some adrenalin? Buy a bike and go riding in Thailand in the sunshine facepalm.gif

  5. Where? Is always a good thing to add to posts like this.

There are many Suzuki specialty shops for Caribbean as they are used a lot for off-road. Just tell them what you want.

Auto box and engine from APV will also fit but if you want 4x4 you maybe stuck with Vitara box as my knowledge of Suzuki transfer boxes is non existent.

My Suzuki "jeep" experience was one of the reasons I had no qualms about buying Carry for work.
  6. Not being a car industry marketing guy.

Simple solution is when in Rome do what the Romans do.

One of the pleasures of coming to S.E. Asia is it is different so why not embrace the differences?

There are too many cars to mention that are not available here. It is the same for almost every country. Some are, some are not.

At least in Thailand the IS a grey market. In other countries there is not.
  7. How can I 'tune for torque' my two stroke bikes? Though I like two-strokes for their simplicity and greater durability/reliability, I prefer torque over high-end power.

The quick answer is port height. Maybe I should have said NSR150 engine reconfigured for marginally more torque.

    The older 150 was a 2t that looked like a 4t..

I don't know how one makes a 2T look like a 4T? If you mean it has a plastic engine cowl then yes it does but ...

Quick answer to tell them apart, the two stroke has a radiator as it is water cooled.

  8. If they don't speak any English they will be as worried as you.

Take a box of good beer and a bottle of Red Label, and don't expect to drink any of it yourself. Take some photos of your parents.

Smile a lot , show interested in the house, garden, farm whatever. Look around for evidence of a hobby like fishing or.. ask to go. Find something broken and fix it.

If they are rural start pacing out the plot next door!

They may simply wish to know that you are the right man for their daughter.

  9. Set my cruise control to 89

Not giving him a chance to speak first I asked in Thai why I was stopped & that I had set my speed control to 89Km so there was no chance of speeding.

No one was speeding so they obviously needed to try & get their tea money by other means.

Question. Isn't the speed limit in Bangkok 80? So by setting your cruise control to 89! Just asking.

Any "traps" I have found are usually always in the same place so...
  10. As far as I'm aware I think pickups must use the left side lane, and can use the second left lane for overtaking, I know most ignore this myself included,

I think the rule of the road is drive on the left except when passing, so guys /gals driving for long distances in the right lane, if not passing, are targets of opportunity.

BTW Speed limit in town is 80, elevated I think outside Bangkok is posted at 110, ground-level motorway, outside Bangkok 120, except for the bumpy bit where it drops to 90. Not that anyone would really notice!

  11. As I see the problem the OP has an opinion(s), which eh also wants to share. So rather than just sit there and be a good listener to the negative diatribe, he either started a discussion or an argument.

Sometimes it is simply better to just go "ahem", "yes", "I see", "what makes you think that?".. or steer the conversation onto something else. There is a reason the Brits talk about the weather, and it has nothing to do with the weather.

  12. I have never ever trusted anything anyone else has ever told me about whether its safe or not to make a maneouver on the road. Least of all a Thai truck driver.

Works very well in Indonesia! Trucks have right turn signal on to tell you not to pass, turn it off when nothing is coming the other way. (this includes blind corners)

You just have to see them turn it off. That's all.
