  1. The cost of the framework for my house 80 sqm was:

stones, cement, posts, iron : 52.000 (used a lot of expensive iron)

roof : 81.000 ( used first quality wood)

    worker: 34.000 ( 4 men at 280 - 300 /man-day)

    That includes floors and ceiling.

I supervised the construction from start till finish - and it was necessary .

I doubt if your project can be done for 100.000, I would think more like 150.000 to be on the safe side.

    Good luck .

  2. Do you know skyscanner.com ? I always book my international flights via this one, the smartphone app.

I just see, here you get the Thai version, can choose English at the top, very good website to automatically get the cheapest flights available and book them within few minutes.

BTW I think the Android app works better then this webversion.

I checked skyscanner , selected language EN and currency THB , on the first result screen it shows price in THB, when I select a flight, the currency suddenly is in GBP which does not interest me at all as I want to pay in THB. Moreover, "additional airlines fees may apply" . So probably I wille not see the total price until I have filled in my name and other blabla. No thanks.

  3. I have the problem with both mouse and pad. The Activate a windows by hovering over it with the mouse was not checked , so I cheked it, just to see what happens, and the problem seems to be solved now !

    Thanks

  4. Hi, I bought a Dell inspiron a couple of months ago , and since last week I have this problem: when the cursor is moved over links or buttons, it starts them automatically without pressing the enter button. This is very annoying , like mails are sent before finishing etc. , just by accidentely moving the cursor over the send button. Is this a hardware or software problem, can I fix it myself ? If hardware , what service can I expect from Dell , all I could do is hand over the pc to the shop where I bought it , it should be still under warranty.

  5. I am chairman of a COC of a condominium in Jomtien and have some experience here. All condos are subject to the laws of the Condo Act 2008 which covers most of what has been discussed. It is available free on the internet.

Before any such rules can be imposed on the owners, there must be either an AGM or EGM called by a certain percentage of the owners. Those attending the meeting will need to show that they are owners, their number of shares/votes being dependent on the floor area of the apartment(s) that they own. If there is a majority of absentee landlords in the condo, they should be able to prevent any such rules being imposed.

I agree with what has been said above. When she bought the apartment she bought it on the understanding that she could rent it out and the tenants could use the facilities. If there is a large percentage of the condo owned by absentee landlords for renting and the tenants are not allowed to use the common facilities, the owners would have to sell but would have little chance of recouping their full investment. The resident owners should be aware that when they come to sell theirs, theirs will also be reduced in value and there will be fewer buyers interested in purchasing.

At our condo we do not differentiate between owners and tenants, they are all residents. Each would be subject to our wrath and consequences if they break the rules. We have limited car parking spaces and have introduced rules that all are able to use the car park on a 'first come' basis. Visitors are allowed but must register with reception. If they don't or stay after midnight, they will be wheel clamped and released at a cost of Baht 2,000. All residents are issued with a car and/or motorcycle sticker so that they can be identified in the car park.

We try to keep posted notices to a minimum but all are reminded to be considerate to other residents.

Hopefully, market forces will prevail here.

As someone who follows the laws, as you clearly try to be, is it legal for you to wheelclamp cars and charge a fee to release them?

Maybe it is illegal, but parking a car on private property certainly is.

The owner of the car knows the consequences very well as a badge is needed to enter the parking area, so he (or the owner of the condo who has the badge) is familiar with the house rules.

Another (legal IMHO) option would be to tow the car away and dump it on nearest road. The owner then would have to pay for the cost and most probaly the damage on the car.

  6. Hi, I have a non-immigrant multiple "o" visa must be utilised before 11 sep 2013. I will enter Thailand 10 sep, and would like to stay at least 7 months.

I am marrried to a Thai lady and we live alternating every 2 weeks at our homes in Surin and Pattaya.

What options do I have ? I have tried to search the forum for an answer, but each case seems to be different and sometimes the replies are contradictory.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  7. According to the Daily News article referenced in the Coconutsbangkok story, he was staying at the Manhattan Hotel and had been there for three days. On the evening of the assault he'd been to visit some entertainment venues at the end of Soi Manhattan and he was assaulted on walking back to his hotel by the teens who pulled up on their bikes.

So it looks like the cause of the attack could be something that happened at the entertainment venues he visited.

Trying to pick up on one of their girlfriends?

Yeah, I was thinking something possibly along those lines.

Like in some 'working' girls have Thai boyfriends who every once in a while might get jealous seeing their source of income having fun with a foreigner?

having fun with a foreigner IS their source of income

  8. I have lived for six years in Thailand, including 4 years in a seedy part of Bangkok. I have never been in a fight, been threatened or even had a serious confrontation with anyone out here.

I can actually say that I feel much safer walking the streets of Bangkok at 4.00AM than I would feel if I was doing the same thing in my hometown in Belgium.

Only if your home town would be Borgerhout or Anderlecht or something similar ....

  9. My 300-euro flight from Bangkok to London via Kuala Lumpur next week on a 5-star airline (Malaysian) with a 5-star plane (A380) is looking more like an excellent deal all the time. Honestly, who except someone who's obscenely wealthy or who works for a stupid company that likes to waste its (or its shareholders') money thinks it's a smart idea to fork out almost 5,000 euros to sit inside a metal tube for 12 hours when other people sitting inside the same metal tube and arriving at exactly the same time are paying only 300 euros to sit inside said metal tube for 12 hours?

    Some people are just jealous

I wish I could afford it. Squeezing 1.85m with joint probs into Economy Class is awful sad.png.

    Others honest
