I will soon be buying a new pickup, and since my wife will drive it most of the time I think of an automatic. Now she drives a 25 year old 3 litre petrol Nissan and only shifts gear untill the engine almost drops dead. I feel so much pity on this engine, but it must be bullet proof since it now has 300K kms and still runs perfect.
I doubt if the newer engines will stand this torture such a long time so the solution may be an automatic.
I know the advantage of an automatic in the city, but most of the kms we do are in the mountain roads in the north.
In Europe I drive a BMW steptronic automatic, and this gearbox is so very intelligent , I even never have had the need to switch to manual steptronic. On mountain roads it knows exactly when to switch gear , or keep same gear in extreme situations, like taking over a truck.
Now my question is: how "intelligent" are the pickup automatics , like the Vigo or the Dmax. Or are they just mechanically driven , and unexpectidly shift gear when they are not supposed to , in situations like overtaking a bus (this is ofcourse hypothetical !!!) or going down hill and loosing power brake .
Thanks for your advice.

Has anyone ever bought a car (truck) from a Tent dealer?
I know more or less what to check to find out if the car has had an accident, or how many kms it really has run, but how about the paper work , do they take care of , and as these are second hand cars , how about the number plate ?
Why do they never mention the kms on the ad's ? (like one2car) , not that this is important, just curious
it safe to pay cash in advance , if so how much ?
how much discount can be bargained for ?

QUOTE(Chris.B @ 2007-03-19 14:22:10) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Annual extension of stay based on marriage with 400k in the bank is no longer an option for new applicants. Now, family income of minimum 65k per month are required.
I think you will find that should be 40,000 baht a month.
My income is way over this amount , but from diverce sources, so how can I prove ?

I hope you can sell the bike, but if not , and therefore cannot buy a new one in Belgium , my Pan Europe is for sale , registered in Belgium, and with all paperwork included!
No need to fear the cold winter here, it has handlebar heaters, and besides, winters are not as they used to be. I drove all winter with absolutely no problem.

And no its not a farmers truck....thats the DMAX...thats like calling a the Fortuner a Vigo.
That is women logic: the DMAX is a farmer truck, the DMAX is an Isuzu...all Isuzu's are farmer trucks !
-
Do you have a Thai wife or g/f ? If so dont forget to ask her opinion !
Mine says the Isuzu is a farmer truck , once I came home with an Isuzu for a test drive, and she would not even give it a glance !

I would like to upgrade my standard sportcruiser to the "limited edition".
What would have to be modified, like big wheels , higher suspension , boardwalks, leather interior etc. ? And any idea how much this would cost , where it can be done in CM area ?
Thanks,
Michael

Not sure how other people feel but Bangkok taxis speeding to the airport at 140 kph always seem to make me want to kiss the ground when arriving without mishap.
I used to like taking the old airport bus but the new service seems to be less frequent and take longer. I am therefore thinking about taking the Sky Train to On-nut and either catching the AE3 Airport Express bus or the No 552 to the airport from here.
Can anybody confirm that the airport express AE3 Sukhumvit bus passes On-nut station on the way to the airport or does it turn off before On-nut station and take the more direct expressway?
Is the 552 bus running and is it a reasonably direct quick, trip to the airport?
Or should I just take a taxi?
Thanks
I dont know about the 552, but last week I took the 517 from Morchit bus station, and then switched to the 551 at Rama IX. Only had to wait a few minutes, maybe was lucky. From there it is a direct trip to the airport, goes as fast as a taxi
, and costs only 34 B

About trucks I disagree with my G/F about everything except this: Isuzu is a farmer truck
