again, you fail to understand.  This is his gf's/lover's son....it should be part of his family.  I'm not talking about strangers or friends or the embassy or whatever.....I'm talking about a part of his family.  Yes, your gf's kid is part of your relationship if you want it or not.  OK, sure, let me die and go broke and suffer and really suffer and learn and learn and maybe help him get arrested to really teach him a lesson.  this will not work out well, i'm sure of it.  if you put your son in prison, then let us know how that worked out for you.  unless you've been in this situation, you really have no clue.

obviously you don't read or comprehend very well, its the mothers friend a female

I'm about 3 months ahead of you. I plan to ditch the tanks by the end of the year. With the money I saved I went and repaired some of the damage 40 years of smoking had done. Six coronary stents and 2 kissing iliac stents in India. Couldn't have afforded my cigarettes habit in the last few years in Australia.

The (very dangerous) patches were useless and fell off in the heat, the pills made me feel homicidal, and the gum was a waste of time.

57 days, stopped using Quomem only took the tablets for 14 days then binned them.

  4. Thanks, I'll check it out today, but I think the cig lighter adapter is 12V, so maybe can be attached to the 12V battery on a bike.

    http://www.google.co...ved=0CCoQ8wIwAg

I'm also looking for a cheap GPS mount for a motorbike, it seems it will be okay on the suction plate, so think all that's needed is way to secure the suction plate to the bike. Anyone got any recommendations in BKK?

did you buy the unit in thailand ? if yes where and how much, do you have a link

  5. to the op i can only assume the kiwi owner wasnt in at the time, if he was i dont think this would of happened.

why would you want to get the authorities involved for something that could be sorted out easly with the owner ?

  6. To say i am disgusted at some of the comments on this thread is an understatement. i wonder if they all sit at the back of the plane on the way over?

Jesus Christ. where do you people get off crucifying someone because of their nationality or the colour of their skin? For those of you ranting about HIV and AIDS spread and violence, take a look at some stats from Thailand. One of you said that you wanted to have a little 'fun' with some of their 'service providers'. Well, if you stick a condom on, you should lessen the risk. Or were you perhaps considering going bareback and taking back whatever you pick up back home to your next conquest?

I befriended a nigerian bloke in bangkok and he has been there for years now working in the rag trade. he is legal, and rarely drinks, hates drugs, and is quite religious (christian - not that THATS got anything to do with anything). Hes not a criminal.

If there are africans down khao san road, so bloody what? You don't like them because they are african?

Get back on the plane to wherever you came from, and hand your passport in to immigration on the way in. you clearly shouldn't be traveling anywhere.

    Rant Over!

want to be disgusted come to africa

take a wlak on any street in lagos accra bamako freetown niarobi / better still take a walk around some local village in the bush.

come and see racism at its finest

f***ing tree huggers and bunny f***ers

like i said when are you people going to wake up

    google rivers of blood

  7. The internet on BTV is run through the tv's fibreoptic cables so is capable of much faster speeds than adsl and the other alternatives on offer.

It is available for both BTV and Sophon TV subscribers - Internet on Sophon is managed by Bangkok Cable Net (BCN) with a new office opening on Pattaya Tai next week.

This new office has an Internet and gaming cafe downstairs so that you can try out the internet for yourself.

The whole network is currently undergoing complete renovations which will improve the quality of the service and solve most of the issues mentioned above.

As well as the hardware and infrastructure upgrades, BTV/BCN are now in partnership with a western management and marketing team (which Im part of) and we are currently working at improving the entrie service on offer.

As far as BTV television is concerned, expect major improvements over the upcoming months.

Channel 10 is in a changeover phase, now broadcasting as "Pattaya Life TV". This will be an English language channel aimed for the tourist and ex-pat community showing a range of shows from Pattaya, Krabi (where we broadcast Krabi Life TV) and from around the world.

A new specialist broadcast system is being installed for several of BTV's channels which will improve the content and information on display.

For more info on any of BTV, BCN or Pattaya Life TV's services contact Rob (Australian) on 0849 032 649 or Mem (Thai) on 0848 431 252.

pity they couldnt change the adds though

i know where i would shove that bl**dy c/d the girl in the add loads every comercial break, and the music arGGGGHHH

  8. ''yes you can pick it up on Friday!''

Why pick it up on Friday? Surely after two years you'd think that his laundry would be ready and waiting. :o:D

yep that would definately go over the head of an aussie

  9. I thought in simple terms that non-doms were people born outside the UK with very little historical linkage to the UK. Basically, anyone who isn't Britsh and was born outside of the UK.

Not correct.....I am classsed as a Non-dom.....Was born in the UK, passport etc, but no properties, no bank accounts and essentionally no dealings or ties with the UK other than very occasional visit on holiday.....

You dont have to do any interview with an embassy etc, this is all to do with taxation, nothing more, doesnt effect your legal status as to the right of abode etc in the UK or your citizenship...

Believe under new tax rules and stand to be corrected....if you own property in the UK, you will be liable for tax

same same and still hold all my bank accounts etc

own my own home but only get taxed on the rental of the property if its over 4,000 gbp per year

  10. US Stock markets may keep on rising but if the US Dollar is declining the value of your investment is in effect is going down . I think the US Dollar will keep on going down due to high inflation , oil , food and commodity prices rising and the endless printing of dollars . If you invest in other markets and therefore sell dollars you may see a gain . I am still bullish on gold and especially mining stocks , which have not risen with the gold price and so are now very undervalued ..

Very interesting Churchill, but I am afraid you have it wrong on both accounts old chap:) Lets look at the facts for just a minute, and since your TV name is one of the great Englishmen of all time we will use the GBP. The pound saw record levels vs. the dollar towards the end of last year at around $2.08, and it currently is at $1.95. Now when one looks at the facts of the situation, if someone was a shrewd investor they would have sold off all their pounds and converted them to U.S. Dollars about 6 months ago and then bought a nice basket of U.S. equities, then they would not only have made a nice coin in the U.S. stock market but as the Dollar has strengthened they would have a double rate of return :o Don't worry old bean the Dollar is still poised for a long ride up so its not too late to ditch those pounds, convert to dollars and take a position in U.S. equities. Oh by the way that gold bet is a very bad idea, the speculative gold bubble has burst and gold will continue south for many years to come. Keep a stiff upper lip and ditch your gold and pounds and come over to the rising star "the U.S. dollar", you can thank me later gov!

Well you seem very confident in your prediction . It is easy to look back and find a period that suits you opinion - If you look back at gold over the last 6 months it has done quite well and even better over the last year . You are probably right about the pound going down in the future as I believe the dollar will . I am living and earning in Thailand and expect Asian currencies along with the Chinese Yuan to generally appreciate against the dollar in the next year or so . So I take you up on your challenge - I will leave my investments mainly in gold mining and you can leave yours in the US Dollar and stock market and we will see who has done better by December .

    $

fuel is pushing the price of gold production up per ounce

thats my bet anyway for what its worth

and i'm on a gold mine at the moment

  11. Can I use GPRS with the pay-as-I-go 1-2-Call service?

    yes

call service centre for gprs setings

make sure you have nokia pc suite

connect using the phone as a modem

only problem i ever have is ip address for outgoing server sometimes is not recognised but once again call to service centre normally sorts it out

  12. A valid passport is a basic requirement. Did you have to pay twice?

nope she resubmitted the application with both her old and new passports so that they could check all the dates in it

like i said i couldnt understand why she had been turned down though i had double checked everything had everthing bar the preverbial sink to support her application, just goes to show why i should be left to the experts.

  13. Dave,

This all sounds very strange. If the visa has been refused, your g/f must be given a notice explaining the reasons why. Indeed, if you have been living together for two or more years, she should also get the right of appeal. That you have not lived in the UK for 15 years has no bearing on the consideration of the application.

I'd send the embassy an e-mail ([email protected]) asking:-

    1. If the application has been approved, why isn't there a visa in the passport?;

    2. If it has been refused why she hasn't been given a refusal notice?; and

    3. If the embassy has no record of an application having been made, why hasn't the application centre passed it on?

I'd then back this up with a phone call on Tuesday.

From the circumstances you have described, I see no reason why your girlfriend's application should be refused, especially as you've been together for six years, so if it has been, don't just meekly accept it, but fire off representations to the embassy.

    Scouse.

    tit update

only in thailand could this happen had all the documents etc etc after loads of calls to and fro to the g/f turns out refusal was based on the fact her passport was out of date (oops am i a richard head or what)

g/f submitted her new passport and all documentation bingo visa four days later.

dont know what all the fuss is about its easy peasy

  14. Well ever since I was discharged from hospital more than 3 weeks ago I have been suffering from severe diarrhoea – like at least 6 times a day, and very watery – in fact after the food is gone, it is all water.

After 8 days the hospital took a sample, and reported nothing wrong.

I consulted 2 doctors in Pattaya and they both prescribed antibiotics.

So as there was no improvement I consulted a doctor at Phya Thai Hospital in Sri Racha this morning. He said that the antibiotics would have cured me by now if it had been 'microbes' or whatever. He has booked me in for a colonoscopy and said it might be cancer.

I have been Googling the symptoms on various websites and only the Mayo clinic mentions diarrhoea as a symptom. All the other sites don't mention it - just constipation or a change in the stool size, and frequency of passing etc.

There are a number of other symptoms, but the only ones I have are diarrhoea, a gassy stomach, and general fatigue. There has been no weight loss, and I can't detect any blood in my 'water', and I still have a reasonable appetite.

Anyone else out there had colon cancer who may be able to reassure me? :o

And if I have got it - assuming I've caught it early - what is the survival rate? :D

sorry to hear of all your woes the past few weeks mobi

silly question but have you been tested for dengue fever

  15. The examples are in truth both symptoms of the same problem - Though the OP twists the point of focus onto the Foreigner.

The issue is not hypocrisy on the part of the foreigner(s) but the fact that the actions of both the foreigner and the Thai in the example given are dishonest.

Those two dishonest acts exist independently of each other, neither is a justification of the other.

There are however some similarities in group behavior; Thais over charging foreigners and justifying that on the basis of (whatever their justification is) and other people (Thais included) breaking copyright on the basis of (whatever their justification is).

And it is in this justification of one's actions where those actions are harmful to others that is a commonality.

Dodgy ground really, morality and ethics being such a difficult subject for so many in Thailand.

    --

And if I might add. All my software, music, movies and whatever media I have at home and/or on my computer is fully legal.

mines all illegal saved a fortune

  16. The price should approach the marginal cost for mining the stuff. What is the marginal cost for mining an ounce of gold? Probably about $50 would be a wild guess.

The marginal cost, IS the supply curve. If you are assuming a fairly competitive markets, Long Run prices should be based around the supply curve. The rest (ie $900) is sentiment.

that would be a wild guess

all depends on the extraction process heap leach / ball mill / slag reduction / cost of fuel /cost of labour local / cost of ex pats / flights food accomodation etc etc

last mine i worked in ghana mining and prossesing cost's were $ 199.00 per troy ounce while gold took a dip to $249.00 but that was in 1999.

today i'm on a new mine just setting up so wouldnt know the cost for troy ounce production, but behind assembly by 3 months and already $200,000,000 investment to date. would guess at around $ 400.00 + per troy ounce production

as for buying gold at todays rates pure madness
