  1. I introduced a farang friend of mine to a Thai lady who is a good girl from a good family. I did so warning him not to do her wrong or make me look bad. At the time, I thought him to be a honest, worthy man. Boy was I wrong. They get into a relationship 6 months on and he ends up sleeping with another woman behind her back, completely disgracing himself. This women is important to my wife's business and I do believe that this will affect that business relationship, so on top of the loss of face I have suffered there is also a likely financial loss. I introduced him to her because I thought that even though he was a foreigner in this country, he understood the culture and would represent himself according and morally, but I guess I was wrong.

What action can I take against him legally? I have heard of slander lawsuits but not "loss of face" suits, although I imagine that they exist. I guess this might fall under slander of character? Thanks.

Can I sue you for wasting my time? I didn't even smile. Nothing. Unfortunately for you, my time is more valuable to me than loss off face, so this could end up costing you millions!

  2. Does the Asoke branch always run out of hand towels in the afternoon, or do they simply not have them anymore? I brought it up with the manager since they had run out around 6PM and he motioned towards the reception area saying to contact the HQ. :D Shouldn't it be his job to bring up with HQ any issues that customers have? I told him it was pretty nasty that the place was packed full of sweaty smelly people and not one of them had a towel to wipe down the equipment or themselves. I didn't even get the Thai smile response for that one, just an odd stare before he walked away. It's all about customer service! :o

I didn't expect much since it's been obvious for a while now that they're on their way out, but I'm just wondering if I should buy hand towels to bring with me for as long as the place remains open, or if this just happens every once in a while.

  3. I just bought a HP LaserJet M1522NF

    http://www.shopping.hp.com/store/product/p.../CB534A%2523ABA

All places were selling for around 15,000 baht with a discount. I've worked with a lot of printers over the years, and never had nearly as many problems with HP's as I've had with others (such as Brother), so for me it was worth spending 2x what other companies charge for the peace of mind. HP printer support is also top notch when you need to troublehsoot a problem or order replacement parts.

The others I briefly considered researching more about (never did) while shopping are the:

Xerox WorkCetnre 220 (no fax) & 222 (fax)

    http://fujixerox.co.th/products/product.asp?cat_id=39

The 222 was going for about 7,500 baht.

    Samsung ???

    Samsung multiFunction's in Thailand

There was a samsung with the same features as above, don't remember the model number. Also about 7,500 baht.

Can't help you much on the Samsung and Xerox, but google should tell you if people are happy with them.

The HP I picked up is fast and everything works as expected. I checked with some of the toner supply shops and they said to refill my current toner cartridge would be 650 baht, while a new cartridge around 1,300 baht.

  4. Interesting. I had no idea they made SATA hard drives with onboard eSATA interfaces.

With regards to Vista not seeing the partition and reporting RAW format, that is a common problem with external enclosures that don't support Vista, or at least not as well as one would hope. As far as not working when directly connected to the motherboard without the enclosure, that truly is bizarre.

BTW, I know drives are cheap these days, but I have a few spare SATA hdd's around that I could have lent you to do the copying. Don't be afraid to ask next time! :o

  5. Is this a Seagate drive in some other brand enclosure, or is it a Seagate all-in-one, drive+enclosure product?

If it's the latter, you could check the Seagate site for some support options, but you likely won't find anything that can help you other than if it was designed to support Vista.

In either case, your best bet is to buy a new enclosure that works with Vista and slap the old 320GB Seagate drive in there. You can purchase a quality enclosure that supports eSATA for under 1k baht.

  6. I was recently searching for someone and found agoda.com to have pretty good prices.

If you search in Bangkok, Location: Sukhumvit, sort it by star rating, you'll find a couple of 5 star hotels under 3k, all of the 4.5 star under 3k, and all of the 4 star under 2k.

5 star hotels under 3k are the Grand Sukhumvit Hotel and President Solitaire Hotel, though prices will likely change depending on the dates and # of nights.

I'm not sure if these are significantly lower than normal for this time of year, but there is obviously plenty within your budget if you shop around online. Can't complain about 5 star for under 3k!

  7. <deleted>?

Assuming the loses didn't go up in 07 and 08, they lost $32M USD/yr with 2,500 members. At that rate they'd lose about $650M USD each year with 50,000 members. Could someone remind me what the target membership was please.

What exactly were they spending over $32M USD on each year with only 2,500 members? That's over $13k USD per member each year in loses, potentially much higer. That's A LOT of massages and golf.

A round of golf being 4,000 baht or so makes a good 130 rounds of golf per year for each member. Those Elite card holders must be dam_n fit!

  8. The time zone and location doesn't matter anyway. Regarding the OS-Time and Date, it matter if the C-Mos had loose it data or the C-Mos battery were down, you'll need to enter the BIOS info for to set the new Date and Time which should be just differs from the "reset" time of the BIOS. It didn't matter you'll use the real time or any other, it just must differs from that "reset" time!

Saying that time doesn't matter to any OS on a network is ridiculous. Kerberos and SSL certs are just two security tools that will not work if the time is off by more than a certain amount. Network time servers aren't there simply for logging and making sure people are on time for their appointment, many security methods are dependent on computers having the proper time. This being said, WU and WGA use SSL and having improper time will cause them to spit out errors. While it may or may not be the cause of the OPs problem, it most certainly is for many people when having issues with WU and WGA.

Edit: Meant WGA, not WPA. :D

    Hey hey hey, calm down!

We talking about Windows XP and NOT about Keberos pp! And the problem with time occurs in most (99%+) cases if the CMOS settings are changed while the Battery fails. And I can set the time different from the real time and windows works well except I set the time to the BIOS default time!

Test it by yourself and you can see how it works!

    Cheers.

Am I not calm? :o Anyway...

You happened to have skipped over the whole SSL issue I mentioned with regards to WU & WGA, which both use SSL. If you don't understand how SSL certs and time are related, I suggest you do some reading on the topic.

  9. I think you have downloaded the iso file which is a CD image meant to be burned to a CDR. You then boot from the CD and GParted will run automatically. The software you currently use to burn CDs and DVDs should burn the iso image for you (you don't want to simply write the iso to a CD, you need a program that recognizes the iso format and makes a CD using the iso contents).

If you don't have software to do this, there's plenty of freebies out there. This is one...

  11. I remember hearing that many people were having problem with Windows Update around XP SP3 time (though I've had many issues with SP2 and WU as well way back when). These problems are due to certain dll's being unregistered or not registered by the SP3 installation. Sort of a hit n miss thing, as it would happen sometimes, randomly, and not others. Try out the following page and see if it works for you.

  12. I agree, but the problem is the OP hasn't been back to clarify and his first post was a little vague. There are too many things we have to assume here. The OP stated issues with WGA validation, not activation. I was assuming Windows activation was over and done with, but you may be correct in that he never activated it.

If the problem was with activation, then using the same serial number for both installations could be the cause of the issue. The OP might have tried to be clever and bought 1 netbook installed with XP, and another installed with Linux. If he used the Windows serial # from the XP netbook on the Linux netbook then Windows activation likely would have failed.

If his installation of XP was successfully activated, then the problem is with WGA validation, not activation. In that case I still think he should make sure his BIOS time, OS time, and time zone are correct.

Until the OP comes back to update us on his progress or answer these questions we can't be 100% sure of any possible solution to his issue.

Edit: Actually, I don't think activation even occurs with a OEM installation CD, and you don't have to enter a serial #, but it could be different with different brands of computers. If he did what I mentioned above, about using the CD from an XP netbook on a Linux netbook, then I'm not certain if it would even install. Depends on how the manufacturer configured the system and installation CD. If it did install correctly, then he could be running into the WGA validation issue since he never had to activate XP. We still have to wait for an update to sort this all out.

  13. Time zones or some like that didn't have any negative effect on Windows!

    Yawn, not again. :D

You sure seem to know everything. :o

    Google, first search result...

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/g...3-35dce66fafd2/

Open the motherboard BIOS and set the time to the correct date and time.

You can to go www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag to verify your time settings.

I double checked and my bios date was one day off. I didn't noticed earlier because time was perfect. My suggestion to others: double check BIOS time AND date.
