How much is 100baht in British pounds? How long or what does it take for you to earn 100baht?

For me, 100baht is minimum to tip.

You have to remember that some people who live here are not getting paid much so B100 maybe a lot to them.

I tip well but that is up to me, nothing wrong giving them a B20 tip if thats all you can afford.

Noodles ... that's crap... someone that can only afford 20 baht should be giving the massage ... not getting one ...

I have never seen someone give just 20 baht for a foot massage for an hour ... even when the massage was only 100 baht (95%+ of the customers where I go are Thai and there's no parking lot handy) Don't be cheap!

It's true that no one should throw water or anything else at a motorcycle moving at normal traffic speeds. I think it's fine to chuck water at bikes going round the moat in Chiang Mai though; that's the whole point of going round the moat.

If you don't like Songkran or you don't want to get wet, then stay in or get out the country...simple!

As for the death toll, not a lot will change for a while. Drink driving isn't the same taboo here as it is in the west, and it's considered quite okay to have a few and then drive home. Just look at how many cars get parked at some of the night spots in BKK.

Songkran isn't the problem. It's Thailands attitudes towards drink driving that is to blame. It's just that during Songkran half the country travels somewhere, and many of 'em do so half-cut.

100 baht tip may be nothing to you, but it's a hel_l of a whack for two-hours work to the average Thai. While they may think you are generous, they also probably think you are daft at the same time. They may also come to the conclusion that they are not charging enough as all these silly farangs are paying them 100 baht on top and this may actually drive prices up. Come back next year and it'll be 300 for two hours. 20 baht tip is fine, 50 absolute max, although whatever floats your boat.

I go to places on Onnut ... charge 100/hr for foot massage or Thai massage ... Thai's tips average 40/hr ... I tip 50/hr

They had help wanted signs up that fully explain the pay scale (in Thai) FT Employees get just a lottle more than part-time employees (%age) and extremely low salary (Part-time only get what they do in labor at 50%)

there was a discount on books in Eng off of AsiaBooks/Kino.. but not much ... plenty to choose from ... but the crowd was oerwhelming for me.

Am not sure about HM intervening ... but if the Constitution Court said "There is no way we can seat a new Parlaiment" that that would be exactly what HM's job would be in that case.

I don't think an election in less than 120 days would be acceptable to all parties but who knows ... I've been wrong before :-)

I disagree with

HOwever they also need:

- a solution for the south other than guns and shooting people

- major curbs on corruption by politicians and big business (which has been more rife under TRT than probably any other govt, and much of this cannot be undone e.g. FTAs)

- actual real policies to help the poor (rather than giving them interest free money and land all the time)

- actual real policies to upgrade Thailand's competitive advantage

- reduction in govt spending (eliminate rubbish like Bangkok fashion city and Elite card etc)

Because this all applies to TRT as well ....

Not sure if I see the results being the same yet .... I am hoping for a Gov't where the opposition whoever they are can censure the PM ... hugely important

I'll stick with discussing my opinions with friends ... and online ... and going to the occassional rally ..... (both sides) to watch .... reading what I can ... and participating in the general foolishness.

Big growing pains for a new democracy ... hope it keeps going forward with new checks and balances, more freedom of the press (particularly Television in rural communities) and continued high participation by the population. Will be nice to see people told "This is YOUR vote and this is what you are voting for! Listen to your hearts and minds and not what some village headman is telling you!"
