Happened a few years ago in England , boy climbed a tree looking for conkers , he fell out the tree landed on his head and next thing all the trees in the avenue were cut down  lest it should happene again.

I demand climbing a tree and killing myself in the process to be legal.

I mean, where to have we become ?

    ????

Lately, i bought a rope. The seller should be held responsible, if i hang myself with it.

    Builders of balconies as well.

Well it took a long time in the civilized USA to reduce the road carnage from DUI. Its a combo of strict enforcement of laws, draconian penalties, imposition of corporate liability for the actions of liquor servers/sellers. In the States, in many areas, you cant even serve booze unless you get training in how not to make drunks drunker. If someone sells to an intoxicated person, they can also lose their license to sell.

    Its not just one thing.

Yep, if it helps, it helps.

I would make heroin-dealers liable too.

Education is the only one thing, we have.

What do i do with my life ? Ah, make a lot of money. Where?

Of course, i´ll become a politician, thats not even a question, pff.

My father pays the right people, and i am one. Without learning anything. Dang.

But i don´t know, what exactly is it i´m doing here? Well, since i´m here anyway, i could as well get famous, right?

I mean, now i have to show, that i´m doing something, anything.

Lets propose a ridiculous new law, or dig out a dusted, outdated one.

Yeih, now my life has a meaning . . .

This is the 3rd topic you have posted.

    This one yesterday.

You can apply for the non-o at immigration as you were informed in that topic.

The best locations to get a single entry non-o for being 50 or over is Savannakhet Laos and Penang Malaysia. If using the money in the bank option you will need a copies your Thai bank book showing 800k baht on the date you apply and proof you are retired.

How to proof that i´m retired, if over 50 and "money in bank" route, but not any pension income ?

    <off topic comment removed>

Well, i could show some pictures of myself, in a hammok, "not working" . . . ?

lol, but it would be really reassuring to have just in case

shit goes downhill, not least because i dont trust

hospitals here to give me an easy exit when everything else fail

Not Thailand, forget it. Maybe Switzerland ?

Or two plasticbags (the good quality ones) and two bottles vodka (the quality there is not so much of importance, because you won´t be there for the headache). It works all the time

  8. Guys, i just saw in TV about assisted suicide. Do we even need a law for that ? My life is mine.

    I´m going, gracefully or not, but i´m going anyway . . .

I had a wonderfull life, but when it´s time, it´s time. It´s a time where i will cellebrate my existence.

Two plasticbags over my head, two bottle wodka, and i´m out of here.

Sorry, i mixed this up with the suicide forum.

Keep up the good spirit

Why is it greedy to do do as you wish with your life?

That´s the point, they just don´t want money, it´s something we thought of, to pursue. You´r so right. Money is secondary. In fact, i didn´t find any love in money, did you, guys ? !

Thank you for waking me up "mogandave"

No joke, i salute you !

But i´m still here without staff

I hope more places like that will open up, with healthy competition, there´s definitely a market for that. Me, for one. I´m not implying to be there, but just looking forwards . . .

There is really only one "agency" that comes close to being what you're talking about in Chiang Mai and as I've mentioned previously, their services aren't cheap.  The care homes are really the best in option in Chiang Mai if you want reliable 24/7 care.

As mentioned by many, the way that most people manage is to come here as relatively young, healthy retirees and build relationships over time.  Not as people in their mid 70s, already with health problems and under the gun to live up a support system right away.  I've seen several people try to do this and it usually doesn't work out well.  Either they spend much more money than expected to get reliable help or they're taken advantage of by people they thought they could trust.  Either way, it's not a money-saver for them to retire to Thailand.

I hope more places like that will open up, with healthy competition, there´s definitely a market for that. Me, for one.

    Why the HUH? Confused

It;s simple: This is Thailand. Every Thai person speaks Thai. Not every Thai person including care nurses speaks English. Next?

Why didn´t you say so in the first place ?

At what point you say that screened caregivers have to understand English you have relegated yourself to a rather distinct minority of the potentially screened caregiver population

You mean English at that high level ? No chance. I don´t even understand myself, what you´re saying

stating facts based on personal opinion/view has nothing to do with mixing. if your mileage does not match the category mentioned then it's tough luck. don't blame others. pushing age 75, living in Thailand for 14 years i know what i'm talking about.

I´m just teasing you, i hope you know that

After working (but not living) in Asia for 15+ years, when I finally decided to move to Thailand full-time my family was not happy with that decision. One reason they changed their minds was that good health insurance was available to me living in Thailand that at age 50+ was not available to me in the USA. So my move here was always predicated on some medical scenario.

Now 15 years on I already have in place plans for when I may need medical living assistance full or part-time while still in Thailand although I have Medicare once on US soil. So while it has been suggested on here that I don't know what I am talking about and live in a fantasy, the thing is I have prepared in depth BEFORE I need  health care short or long-term and not scramble to put it in place should some emergency occur.

I'm not sure what you are on about.  Check my previous posts on this subject.  I have offered my advice as a 70 y.o. living here,  (out in the damned sticks) with medical problems ,and very well involved.  That was a response of advice to add to one item by another poster, "Naam."   The risk of trusting just anybody, particularly poor and largely uneducated hired help in a place like LOS is huge.  I see it all the time.  Right outside, right now, right here, as a matter of fact: (but this time builders, not nurses),  point blank refusing to use the undercoat I supplied to apply under paint on a new structure.   Why??? Get paid for less work than quoted for and go home sooner.   Do you live here???????

Sorry, i really am. "Naam" mixes up everything, all the time, he stands above it all, it´s his job

Post the position as "director of operations"....post to universities, and offer "ground-up" operations training and or co-ops

Well, that would work, i assume, and probably taking over my business, but then it would go downhill, like Schnitzelhaus to "Shnizelhouse"

There have been many threads over the years regarding staff problems.

Good working conditions, incentives, perks and an over the top salary does not seem to work. Yet I have been to Thai shops, beach resorts, hotels where the same staff seem to be happy and have been there for many years.

    Perhaps this is the problem

Maybe get a Thai manager to deal with staff and day to day running of the business, you just keep in the background so they hardly know you are there.

    You say something true there

, but as i say, i´m over it

Dear OP, I was reading all the responses and advice but I can’t figure out what is wrong with the situation.

You pay well above average, you provide housing, motorcycle etc...

Maybe to remote? I have 40 Thai workers, and I also take good care of them. As one of the posters suggested, I also work with yearly bonus but I don’t pay all at the same time at the end of the year. I pay every year on the date they started, this to spread the risk they all leave at the same time. All my workers bought a car meanwhile (although they have housing at the site) because they have to pay back the loan they stay..

Increasing the salary won’t work but maybe provide TV and wifi which was very well appreciated by our workers.

You have to give them something that they can appreciate every day so if they leave they will be in a worse situation.

I have tried everything, i mean "eeeverything", but all they value is TV (those stupid soaps) and catching Geckos all day. Nothing works

You guys are on a dead end here ! I´m happy to be on the brink of retirement.

They made me 5 years older. No Joke !

Agree I guess but remember all the stories of care givers misusing EFTP.OS cards and otherwise stealing from or abusing vulnerable people in their charge.  I know one old guy who gives his card to his helper and she abuaes it.  Temptation is great in a poor country.  Try and get a relationship going with other expats  who are younger than you and you have tested in some way for honesty. Then they can intermediate with difficult staff in a pinch.  Don't have all your eggs in the paid staff basket or you have no control or bargaining power.
