Pattaya businesses hope to see foreign tourists
mikebell replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
For the foreseeable future, Pattaya will exist for weekend Thai visitors to view the sea. During the week- doldrums. -
I read the headline with interest right up to the last word - 'police'. If they can't collect over 90% of traffic fines what credibility have they in tracing hackers?

And the floods washing away homes and Jomtien Beach road and the packs of wild dogs and derelicts starving on the pavement. Very picturesque. -
This is a 'puff' piece written 10 years ago. Why would the wealthy visit/live in a place littered to the bottom lip with plastic debris? Why would they hazard their lives daily on Thailand's roads? Are the rich so enamoured with stray dogs that even a walk is dangerous? Expats are usually retired and have owned a house in their homeland, why would they bring their money here and cede 51% of it immediately? And then there are the police!

Rumbling undercurrent unsettles Prayut despite censure win

It suggests that support for PM is not 100% within his cabinet. Prayuth is wobbling and someone from inside could give him a push. -

SURVEY: Will Thailand continue to be a favorable destination for retirees?
mikebell replied to Scott's topic in Thailand News
It is possible to observe good practice in other countries and use it here; eg there are no end of Thai Committees earnestly discussing the safety of one vaccine over another; it would be a simple matter to accept the findings of better educated people in civilised countries. 'you are not a [permanent] resident or a citizen.' Would be-retirees would like to be considered as such. 'pricing out even more locals out of the market.' The people doing this are rich Thais/policemen. A 400 square metre plot would satisfy most incoming foreigners. -
SURVEY: Will Thailand continue to be a favorable destination for retirees?
mikebell replied to Scott's topic in Thailand News
Retirees want to own their own home. Malaysia allows it so why not Thailand? Their home-owning laws are mediaeval and racist; they exist to keep lawyers/auditors in jobs to the exclusion of would-be retirees. -
So slightly fewer deaths than Covid which has shut the country down; had millions spent on it; the whole medical profession put on high alert; the population fed daily death figures. Yet nothing is done about traffic deaths. The post above mine advocates CCTV to inflict fines yet over 90% of tickets are unpaid. A working police force would half these figures in a year.
