  1. Just like Thailand formerly belonged to the Thais, until the Chinese turned up and bought everything.
  2. Two questions. How will the Land office know your spouse has died? Can you transfer the land to a minor? or hold the land for the minor until they reach adulthood?
  3. Well kinda true - If for example a foreigner divorces his wife or vice versa all assets accrued during the marriage are required to be split equally, including property. " According to a 1999 Ministry of Interior regulation, foreigners cannot own land in Thailand. Even if a foreigner marries a Thai national, he or she cannot have ownership over the land in Thailand. If you bought the land during the marriage, the Thailand Land Department requires the foreigner to sign a legal document to specify that this land is a non-marital property having a separate legal personality, therefore, only the Thai spouse will solely have ownership over the land. However, in the divorce proceeding, the foreigner spouse can provide evidence to the court proving that such land was also bought by his or her funds and the land should be considered being the marital property. Once the land is the marital property, then the land should be sold and the proceeds of the sale should be equally shared between the spouses." Thaiembassy.com
  4. All the negative comments and ridicule you will no doubt get for making such comments, reflect the poor choices the ones making the jokes and ridcule have made - probably married hookers and got scammed. My wife and I have been together long time (30+ years) and I, sorry my wife and I, agree with you 100%, everything we own or do now is to secure a good future for our children and their children. No doubt bank of mum and dad will also fork out for a deposit for the kids house as well.
  5. Could be a small goose? I am just surprised why the tuk-tuk driver is not asking for the extra 300 baht for the trip? "Abdulla, a tuk-tuk driver, stated that he picked up the British guy, Mr. Graham, from the Patong area and drove him to a hotel in Karon, Mueang Phuket District, for 400 baht. When they arrived at the hotel, Mr. Graham claimed to have given the driver a 1,000-baht Thai cash and demanded change. However, Abdulla asserted that it was merely a 100-baht note." He's a very generous driver to forego 75% of the agreed fare, wouldn't you agree? As far as I am concerned I am going to side with the Brit on this one - I reckon the driver, though he could make some easy money from a pissed tourist by claiming he only gave him 100 baht (not 1000) hoping the tourist would be too drunk to notice. Tuk -Tuk, Win motorcye etc their all mafia and very prone to violence as countless stories over the years have shown and the Brits 'assult' was feeble at best when considering the levels of violence given to visitors to this lovely kingdom.
  6. I would never make sweeping judgments about anyone's life, characteristics or personality based on a short - and very likely highly edited video. Yes he was a bit of a dick, but something must have precipitated that level of response - there is nothing in the video to show the led up to the altercation - I am gobsmacked the driver of the tuk-tuk accepted 100 baht for a 400 baht fare as per the OP. If the fare is 400 baht that requires either payment with separate bills for the exact change or a single bill of a larger denomination with change given back to the passenger - Neither is not shown in the video. What must be established is what exchange of money occured before the incident. That is not clear - so saying he has "violent tendencies" based on that short video is nonense as you and I only have no idea if he was trying to reclaim potentially 'stolen money' from the driver or if he was infact just being a drunk dick (which I am fairly sure every single poster on this forum- including you and I - have been at some point in the past) This trial by social media must stop as most of us only have half the 'facts' and then end up thinking our opinion is the truth.
  7. Is he a friend of yours as you seem to know him very well to make such sweeping statements?
  8. hmmm....a tall thin man returned ...without his vest and took the necklace....could he be a motorcycle taxi driver? either that or the perp is half naked??
  9. "..a bus driver makes a pittance" - well this tuk-tuk driver charged 400 baht for a 9km journey (Patong to Karon) which takes 5 mins - probably does the same journey several times a day (if not more) for the same cost - probably makes more money than the tourist to be fair. He could well be pulling in 4k+ a day, which I assume he pays tax on when he files his annual tax return....lol.
  10. Absolytly. But i hear a Montonegran passport is much easier to get.
  11. How will this rule change that? It may raise the bar...but a hooker marries a British bloke earning 50K p/a arrives in the UK has a sprog and dumps the bloke -(ex) hooker now gets on benefits, sends half back to Isan and sleeps all day - how does this change that outcome? (Apologies for the stereotypes). And remember most immigration is illegal migration, making legal migration more difficult only encourages the former.
  12. Depends what hits you and what their insurance is like. If you got hit by a clapped-out old banger, then their insurance is likely to be dog poo and at best will (partially) fix the car and that's it (most likely). If you get hit by a better-quality car then their insurance will likely be better. We have been shunted once or twice and on both occasions the other persons insurance company paid for a rental car - But (an important caveat) only for the time our car was in the garage being fixed, not the total time it was off the road and we needed a rental car. I think that is standard for most insurance rentals. The daily cap for the rental limit in both cases was 500 baht per day. So if you nip off and rent a flash motor, you may find yourself angry and disappointed when their insurance company only stumps up a fraction of the cost - best advice - ring them and find out. Most insurance companies have excellent English speakers.
  13. Utter farce - Offering visa-free schemes to Indias, Chinese, etc and then complaining about over-tourism. A bit like drinking a bottle of Tequila and then complaining when it makes you drunk.
  14. What a shocking state of affairs when a criminal is openly and actively running the government. Just when you think Thailand's political shenanigans can't get any lower, Teflon Tony and co, prove the world wrong and drag Thailand down even further. A criminal has a private meeting with the PM. I bet there were no secretaries taking minutes in that meeting!!
  15. Just because you haven't experienced or seen what you define as a heatwave, doesn't me other people and parts of thailand have shared that experienced. My in laws who live 20km outside of Kanchanaburi have had to up sticks and move in with us as they simply could not bear the heat any longer and have had temperatures of 40+ for many, many days. And they have been in Thailand far longer than you or I being in their late 60's. They usually take the piss out of me as I am on the one complaining of the heat - nice to turn the tables for once. When we parked up to collect them and returned to the car an hour or so later - the temp in the car was a whopping 53 (obviously it a car and metal so conducts heat) but still I have rarely seen my car thermometer register anything above 40. Splitting hairs as to if this is a heatwave of not, simply ignores the fact that is it very hot. End of. And on that everyone agrees.
  16. So why do independent travellers turn up at Pattanakarn soi 20 en masse as you suggested in your previous post? Confused???
  17. Okay - so no new debt is created right? Shouldn't all governments be following Thailand's example then to improve GDP by giving away money at every election? If increasing consumer spending through monetary gift creates a boost to GDP. I am surprised other governments don't regularly follow this model to strengthen their country's ecomony?
  18. Well if I booked a holiday to Phuket and ended up in Pattanakarn 20 I would have some serious concerns, wouldn't you? - I think you are talking about Chinese tour groups and zero baht tours? As most Western tourists actually travel independently and not as mass tours. BTW back in the day when I went around the world - I spent many days looking over a world map deciding where I wanted to go based on my research. But that was before the internet and mobile phones. I will provide you with Mr Adith number, so he can tell you where your next holiday in Thailand will be if you like?
  19. Also if anyone who is literate on this can explain how "digital money creates a multiplier effect" I would love to hear that explaination
  20. I would love to know the interest rate on a 172 billion baht loan and the total repayable over the loan's lifetime. If the government can get a loan of 172 billion interest-free, I would gladly give the entire cabinet a <deleted>.
  21. Thata the sad thing with people with mental health issues..they often dont think they need help which in itself is a symptom of their mental health issues.
