Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
jonclark replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Filing income tax is a breeze - No accountant needed - although they will have to start printing .91 forms in English as they are all in Thai at the moment and most staff at tax offices have a very basic understanding of English. But it is a breeze. Getting tax rebates is also a doddle - my tax office fills in all the necessary bits for me if I give them the correct supporting documents, and a couple of months later my cheque turns up for 40 - 50k. Remember if you pay tax you can now claim all the rebates the government offers - including hotel rooms and household appliances as these are frequently made tax deductibles depending on how the government wants to boost the economy by increasing consumption. Even healthcare has been a tax deductible which should help pensioners. -

Well, as you haven't mentioned who the US will allegedly start a war with, its might be pretty hard for Thailand to decide on sides...It could well side with the US rather than the losers. Lets not forget the US is the worlds strongest military power by some considerable margin. Period! Even the Chinese and Russians know that and that any conflict with the US will involve the US <deleted>ting on them from a great height and the decimation of large parts of their military. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance

Duh....do you not understand sarcasm? As a Thai tax resident for over 25 years I have had plenty of luck, especially with my tax rebates which have been very generous. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance

You do know that i was taking the p!ss Makes no odds to me either way as my overseas income goes into a bank account not in my name and the person lives outside of Thailand but I have their debit card with their consent. Whilst my income earned in Thailand is taxed already and has been for many, many years. So absolutely technology does make our lives easier. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance

So I guess that means all of the foreigners who are currently classed as 'guests' can now claim residency. I am surprised that the ultra-nationalists have not put the brakes on the whole idea of using the words foreigner and resident in the same sentence... -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
jonclark replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"widespread misinformation"...aka the truth. lol If the father is so concerned about misinformation his son should return to put his is of the story - and lets remember he son is on Interpols Red list (allegedly) Maybe he should also consider sue Interpol for defamation as well. On a side note: "Red Bull Heiress" eh - So Mr. Chalerm is actually a Mrs. Chalerm, right? Complete with a dress and stockings.- 179 replies

Apology from Pattaya Pub Guards after Assault on Tourists
jonclark replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Superb - So now we all know that as foreigners if we gang up and kick the living daylights out of a couple of Thais, all we have to do is apologise, wai and all is forgiven correct? In light of this inccident I am struggling to see why all the fuss was made about the Swiss man kicking the Dr in the back. By the standards and consequences applied to the three guards here, all the Swiss man should have done is said sorry to the Dr. and given her 20 baht compensation - Revoking his visa, investigating his business and trying to wreck his life for a single kick and a bit of verbal seems huge overkill by comparison. -
So you in your however many years of life have never got so drunk that you do stupid uncontrolled things? Not having a dig at you, but drunk or not, the security guards (thugs) are 100% in the wrong as a huge part of their job is to deal with drunk people and de-escalate the situation. Even if the person being dealt with is screaming and being aggressive. de-escalate not make it worse. Come to Thailand for a good time - that is the message being sent out by TAT around the world.
-
The problem with your entire response is that they were likely drunk - and made an unwise decision possibly - but to expect a two-week visit tourist to have some sort of understanding and acceptance of Thai culture is nonsense. I would not expect a Thai person on two week holiday in the UK understand or accept UK culture. The guards however, should have been the ones calming the whole thing down and calling the police - the job of a bouncer is not to see who can deliver the biggest kicking, but to de- escalate the situation, violence in defence is the last resort, not the preferred option. Especially when your job involves interacting with people who are a little bit worse for wear after a night on the lash. If the roles were reversed and the tourist had delivered a similar kicking to the guards - Off with their heads, deport, hang em high etc etc would be expected outcome - not siding with them!!

Thailand PM calls urgent meeting with economy ministers
jonclark replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Ah an 'emergency meeting' is it. Would this be the same emergency meeting of economics gurus that Taksin instructed the PM to have, as reported in yesterdays BK Post?? Taksin is obliged as a condition of his parole to not be involved in politics. I am sure Taksins' puppet is now giving Taksins instructions sorry orders to the economics team. Such duplicity and disrespect for the public, it makes you yearn for the good old days of a military coup. At least you knew where you stood with a coup. -

Pump attendants are waaay above white foreigners on the social ladder here - even the Burmese pump attendants are higher than whities. Both however are a million miles away from the elevated position of nigh untouchability of the good Maj Gen. So whilst old baldy here will get crucified for a minor skuffle (aka a misunderstanding using the Thai vernacular here) - the Maj Gen will have no consequence for stripping a 14 year boy naked and kicking him in the head twice (for smoking a ciggie). Honestly the 'dance' between the foreigner and pump attendant is much ado about nothing tbh. Why its on the news is anyones guess? unless public opinion is being molded by someone? -

They both have similar styles of hissy-fits and use of violence when they are challenged. The only difference is one is a foreigner (so howls of indignation, and cries of 'deport him' from the assembled netizins can be heard) whilst the other is a member of Thai High Society and Ultra-royalist (so everyone keeps it much more low-key and the event is ushered off the front page and under the carpet). I hope the police also charge the gent with drunk driving as well as he appears to have driven off after the event as!!! -

Missed off Thais from your list?? I mean in terms of numbers and frequency they must top the list of criminals in Thailand, mustn't they for obvious reasons - So lets add them to the list as well...for the sake of balance. Thais - Ping-Pong firing Hookers and Meth dealers sums them up right? I assume we are playing to National sterotypes? -

The culprit here clearly takes lesson on 'face-saving' from the esteemed Maj Gen Dr Rienthong Nanna, the director of Mongkutwattana Hospital. I do hope the Maj Gen will also be subject to stringent checks to ensure future public safety at his hospital.- 125 replies

I am not victim blaming, but to marry a person who you meet on a dating app after three days and then move to another country is insanity. People need to engage their brains before making such rash decisons, and understand the potential consequences for themselves of not thinking things through. I can only go on what is reported in the OP, (as opposed to fictional scenarios). I too hope she is found safe and well and that this serves as a learning experience.

"MTGA" ..."catered to the whities too long" As a fluent Thai speaker reader, and writer who has lived here for over 25 years, please do not be offended when I politely suggest that you are talking absolute boll**ks. To add..please remember that legalisation if cannabis was a flagship election policy of BT party which recived 5 million votes (highest number of votes it has ever received) in the last election.

I am utterly gobsmacked that so much has been revealed about this poor young lady's medical conditions in the press - surely all the conditions and ailments she was suffering from are confidential and cannot be reported by the media under threat of legal action. Remember this? Report on Thaksin's illness Sadly it seems she was returned to the corrections department hospital as it was thought her life was not under threat...unlike Thaksin whose doctor claimed his life was at threat if he returned to the corrections department hospital. So he who lived it up in the VIP room of the Police hospital returned home cured as soon as parole was granted and then showed great energy and vigor rushing around Chiang Mai and Phuket meeting and greeting one and all, before trying to get involved in solving Myanmar crisis. Expect his daughter / PTP spokesperson to say it is unfair to Thaksin to compare the cases as he had nothing to do with the decision the dept of correction made and is allowed to keep medical information confidential...
