  1. A Thai truck driver who knocked down and killed a British couple who were on a round-the-world cycling trip was fined just £18.

Peter Root and Mary Thompson, both 34, left Guernsey in July 2011 and had cycled through Europe, the Middle East and China before reaching Thailand, their 23rd country.

But the couple were killed when they were run over by the driver of a pick-up truck while riding their bicycles on a road 70 miles east of Bangkok in Phanom Sarakham, Chachoengsao in February last year.

The truck driver Vorawong Sangkawat was arrested and charged with killing them both through negligence.

However, he was given a suspended two-year prison sentence and fined 1,000 Baht, the equivalent of just £18.

A post-mortem examination in Guernsey confirmed that the couple had both suffered severe head injuries consistent with a road traffic accident.

  2. An ‘untouchable’ drugs baron who ran a worldwide heroin and cocaine dealing ring from a mansion in Thailand is facing prison today after being arrested at IKEA.

Craig Allen, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, had convictions dating back to 1975 and 'thought he was above the law'.

But now, the 50-year-old - dubbed the 'ginger ninja' and 'little fella' - has been jailed for 20 years.

His drugs operation made him £5,000 a week, which was used to fund a lavish lifestyle at the luxury estate he shared with his Thai wife and child.

However, his empire crumbled when he was arrested at gunpoint - outside IKEA in Amsterdam - by Dutch police last October, and then extradited to the UK.

  5. KOH SAMUI, 5 May 2014 (NNT) –The Manager of the Koh Samui Waterworks Office is hastening to solve a problem with taps that have run dry in some areas, as a result of the recent rainfall deficit on the island.

After several months of low rainfall, available untreated water is reduced from 31,800 cubic meters a day to 21,600 cubic meters a day.

The Manager of the Koh Samui Waterworks Office said the solution to the long-term water demand on Koh Samui is the present construction by the Koh Samui Waterworks Authority of an untreated water pipe project which is expected to be completed in 2016.

  6. You go to a shopping mall at 10PM?? Still stuck in GMT time zone or what?

In Bangkok, they're closing around 10 and after 9, most shops inside would probably be closed already.

McDonalds opens 24 hours, can get coffee there too.

Central pattaya is opened past 11pm

  8. 'Totally inappropriate': Tourist's shock at Buddhist temple in Thailand which has a mural of planes hitting the Twin Towers

    • Tourist criticises mural of Twin Towers as 'completely inappropriate'
    • Features burning buildings alongside comic book characters

A mural in a Thai temple has been criticised as 'totally inappropriate' for depicting the 9/11 terrorist attacks alongside comic book characters and celebrities.

The White Temple at Chiang Rai is the bizarre pet project of controversial Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat

As well as depicting planes flying into the Twin Towers, the mural at Chiang Rai features fictional characters such as Spiderman and Harry Potter, celebrities like Michael Jackson, as well as fighter jets and spaceships.

  10. A British man has died after getting caught in a rip-tide at an all night beach party on the island of Ko Phangan in Thailand - the island made famous by the film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Alex Wyithe, 29, was on a holiday of a lifetime on the sun-kissed island, where full moon parties - featured in the 2000 film The Beach - are popular among travellers.

It is a well known venue for drink and drugs hedonism and DJs who play all night to crowds of around 30,000 at the monthly parties at Haad Rin Beach.
