  1. I have seen a dead baby lying on the road in samui , the mother had carried it while driving a bike , no helmet so the baby's head is like an orange .. Extremely distressing to view .. There is nothing I haven't seen on the roads on samui , legs missing , squashed skulls , young / old , Thai / foreigners .. Most motor bikes , but a few car crashes while the driver has been drunk .. Untill samui upgrades it's road safety , nothing will ever Chand

  2. Until yesterday I thought that I had seen just about everything during my ten years of driving here on Samui.

However.....As I was coming out of Big C coming towards me on the main ring road was a motorcyclist belting along; nothing new there,

but he was standing upright with his feet on the handle bars and combing his hair!!! It was unbelievable and I really thought that I was seeing things

until my wife also confirmed that I wasn't seeing things.

I really don't know what he was on but it really showed a complete disregard for himself and other road users.Still, I guess that he won't be around for too long. I just hope that he doesn't hurt anyone else in the process.

    I only wish that I had a dash-cam!

  4. Bike hire outlets on Samui have been caught up in a scam that allows thieves to steal new motorbikes using old and outdated passports, an issue that has prompted a warning to bike hire shops in Phuket and Krabi.

Jurgen Weber, a Krabi restaurateur and the brother in law of the lady who owns the Samui bike hire shop speaking on her behalf said “two Russians turned up at the bike hire outlet and claimed to be renting the bike on behalf of a friend. The friend’s passport was produced as security for the Honda 150cc PCX when the bike was hired for two days from February the 2nd. However the bike was never returned.

”I went to our local immigration here in Krabi because I realised that the passport had already expired in 2013,” he said.

NOTE - I presume when you hand over your passport they dont check them ????

  5. They are in theory , but the don't

Rule of thumb , if arrested , find out the amount to pay to get out , even if completely innocent , once you are in the system it can be a nightmare

Is there any interest in the possibility of innocence?

Couldn't think of anything better Boater in the price range for your specs.

Dream is a good hotel...nice range of breakfast items...good sunbathing and pool and ace cocktails half price in the evening.

Boater...try Madam Saranair just before Asoke past the junction...nice grub there or the Chinese place for a duck lunch on the corner of 15 and Sukhumvit....good spot for grub there at least.

Thanks for the recommendation on the duck ,, what type of food is saranair ?

Half price cocktails might get messy

  7. Too many unknown variables to give you a solid recommendation.

    However, a few places come to mind;

    Grand Sukhumvit Hotel

    Legacy Suites Hotel

    Viva Garden Serviced Residence

You can google any of them.

    dr. b

Thanks , wasn't aware of the later 2 , but grand sukhumvit doesn't look good , and rooms with breakfast at around 2000

    2) near BTS/MRT

    3) Nice Gym

    4) Modern

    5) budget around 2500

    any hotel name recommendations?

  9. "On 3-Feb-14 2.51 pm"

If the picture goes with the story, it should be AM. If am. what was water truck doing there that time...? Anyway. Truly sad additional ending to a young life ;(

I believe the timings are wrong , but I have seen water trucks operate 24hrs a day on samui ..

But never drive a motor bike at night , I know taxi's are expensive , but it's worth keeping your life

  10. With all due respect...

Based on previous posts on this forum...

No one living full time on Samui would welcome your idea of a " wild hip-hop scene "...

While we all respect the touist idea of having a great time,.. We do appreciate a decent's night sleep as well....

    forget Grandad's post,

there is a great Hip Hop scene on Samui, if you are on Facebook there are certain groups you can join, or upload some tracks you have

If you are looking to make a success, Bangkok would be the place

  11. According to the UK’s ITV news channel tributes have come pouring in after the death of a popular shop owner who was killed in Koh Samui.

Bob Leedham and his wife Gemma were holidaying in Koh Samui when they were involved in a motorbike accident. It is believed that Gemma is still in hospital.

Mr Leedham was a very well known figure in Hebden Bride in the UK where he ran an old fashioned sweet shop called Something Sweet, local business owner Frances Young said “he was a brilliant bloke”.

The couple only married in March last year, in Borneo, tragedy struck the family once more in September 2012 when Mr Leedham’s son Kevin died of a brain tumor, he was just 36.

Tributes have come pouring in for Mr. Leedham, a passionate Liverpool supporter and local football referee and many flowers have been placed outside his shop.

Mr Leedham and his wife were due to return to the UK today
