  1. I went with AA for 1st class insurance my CRF250M here in Chiang Mai. 8,650 baht... if that is more expensive I don't know.. I had a thai friend call , AXA, Thai Ins. Co. and one other, she was told everything from not insuring the bike to not response back to some crazy prices.... so frustrating here... the guy from AA corresponded with me several times and answered all my questions... even the thai person replied emails...

SO, I went with them. 8,650 baht a year for 1st class (only covers about 116,000 cost of the bike if stolen, better than nothing) and 50,000 for medical... all the other stuff is higher and keeps me out of trouble when I have to deal with the corrupt people wearing brown uniforms.

IF I hear about a better and less expensive company over the next year, I'll look into it...for now, money well spent (I hope)...5555

    Hi,

Yes I've been in contact with AA Insurance & will be using them shortly when I arrive in Thailand at the end of the month, there communication is very good & very helpful, Viriyah never replied to me either & another company said they don't do big bikes....

    Thanks for your advice etc....

  2. I have been using 'Go Walkabout' who specialise in long term backpacker insurance and cover any bike providing you have a licence.

Thanks for the advice, the best I've had so far, all of the company's that I have contacted me will only cover me up to a 125, I've looked on there website & the only problem that I can see is that they require you to have a licence to ride in your own country, I've only got a Thai bike licence, I called them today & asked whether this would be o.k, just waiting for them to email me.....

If it isn't then maybe I will have to take my bike test.....

    Thanks again for your help.....

  3. Hi all,

I'm currently in the u.k & want to take out extra cover for my Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker (3rd class) to cover third party & myself & passenger for the 5-6 months that I spend in Thailand, I have found an insurance company in Thailand that has adequate cover for the third parties but not for myself, I was told that if I was involved in a serious accident then I would have to claim from my travel insurance, from what I can see on the various travel companies they will only cover me on a 125, im waiting for a reply at the moment from my regular insurance broker as to whether they can insure me or not.....

I would like to hear from anyone either living permanently or as the same as me whether they are fully covered in the unlikely event of a serious accident.........

    Thanks In Advance......

  4. No, bike parts are cheap here but if you have an accident with another vehicle it can be expensive.

    Hi Again,

So can I get cover for just myself & passenger (not my bike) & also cover the cost for any third party & there bike etc (if I am at fault) I've heard a lot of stories of bogus claims for injury's or hospital bills & also the police trying to get money out of you even you weren't at fault, I just want total peace of mind that if I have an accident I can call my insurance company & they will deal with it & I don't have to have any problems.......

    Cheers

    Baz

Stop listen to all kind of stories and lift your behind from your PC and go and talk to any insurance company, they will give the information you need. For a second opinion go to another insurance company, they are paid to give information. smile.png

    Hi Again,

I cant as you stated (lift your behind from your PC and go and talk to any insurance company) as im still in the u.k, but i did email the company that you recommended to me & received an acknowledgement email from them which was nearly 2 weeks ago & have yet to have a response from them.......

Do you have an email address that i could contact other than there main office?

    Cheers

    Baz

  6. Viriyah, about 1500 B/ year.

That sounds a bit cheap, do you mean 15000 baht?

Yeh I was thinking the same........

What I answered was about your cheap 3rd class insurance not the compulsary insurance or the 1st class. It covers 3rd party if you have an accident

but it doesn't cover your vehicle. I hope this will make it clearer, as an example I pay with 50% discount for my ER6n 850 Baht/year and for my

Ninja 650 1700/year no discount. Had an accident my discount was docked one step, but no hassle from insurance company.

Oh sorry I understand know, so you don't cover yourself in the unlikely event of an accident?

  7. Ask AA Insurance Brokers (Thailand). They speak English and you can talk via email.........thumbsup.gif

And seem to be the most expensive ;(

I was quoted about 12,000 baht Chang Mai Insurance Brokers) for my bike a few years ago, does that sound expansive?

  8. Hi All,

I have been riding my 2010 Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker for the last 2 years, I have a Thai bike licence, tax & the basic Thai insurance but I know I should really get 1st class insurance to cover everything in the event of an accident, I was wondering whether I can just insure myself & passenger & any third party in the event of an accident & not the bike itself to keep the cost down, if so could anyone recommend a good reputable insurance company, im based in krabi......

    Thanks In Advance

  9. The only thing I can think of I guess is do exactly the same with your clothes as your girlfriend does with hers. Also, maybe the material makes yours more vunerable to mold.

She was washing my clothes with hers the same & hanging them up on a clothes rail with plenty of air getting to them & your thinking the same as me that maybe the materials makes my clothes more vulnerable, im actually thing that my old rucksack that got soaking wet with all my clothes in it may have caused the stains, well I've washed it now so I can hopefully eliminate it as being the cause...

    Cheers

  10. Well anyway thanks for everyone's input to my dilemma including the sarcy ones, I will be returning to Thailand in October again & will keep a close eye on my clothes to see whether it returns again....

  11. can be a number of things, even the red soil tends to leave really bad stains on clothes, if you bag had red dust on it and water got to it then it would start to put the stains into anything that touched them, could also be rust but I know just how bad the red soil stains are and they do not want to come out once in the material. Sard soap might be able to remove them but I would be keeping anything decent inside a plastic bag if using the same rucksack again but wash the bloody thing first.

Im thinking that it could be the mould as the mosquito net had a couple of brown marks on it & this hadn't even been washed & also noticed my wash bag was the same that was hanging up, I was also thinking that it was rats piss or even gecko piss lol, the place where I stay is mainly made from wood & is open to the elements, so any creatures can easily get in to the place, oh & by the way I managed to remove the aluminium struts from my rucksack & got it to fit in the washing machine so its had a good wash....

  12. How did you store your clothes? Did your wear them briefly and hang them because they didn't seem dirty? My guess would be moisture since here it's very humid. Here I've found that dirty clothing will mold quickly because of sweat and humidity.

I just folded them up & stacked them on a storage box, I never put them in the wardrobe as I know that this is a place for clothes to get damp, I actually told my girlfriend to keep the wardrobe doors open to get some air into it, but its strange that all her clothes are o.k & mine have the brown marks on them, I arrived in Thailand in October & it was the tail end of the rainy season.

  13. Hi to everyone on Thai visa,

Does any one have any explanations as to the stains that I got on most of my clothes while staying in Thailand last year, I stayed with my girlfriend for 6 months in krabi & most of my clothes developed a rusty brown stain on them, jeans, shirts vests etc, I've tried using vanish & other stain removing products & for most of the time it seamed like it had been removed temporarily only to appear later...............

Where I stay the water is from a well so im thinking that maybe its something to do with it, I wash my clothes either using the washing machine or doing it by hand which uses 2 different water outlets.....

The funny thing is that my girlfriends clothes are o.k......

O.k I may be clutching at straws here but there are a few things that im also thinking that might be causing the stains..........

My Karrimor rucksack that I've had, that hasn't been washed since 2004 was completely soaked with all my clothes in when my girlfriend picked me up on her motorbike, there was a dry bag that has never been washed that has stayed in my rucksack that has brown stains on it......

I also bought a new mosquito net for the bed that also has brown stains on it & also a travel bag that hasn't been washed & also has brown stains on it too........

I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some sound advice on what may be causing these stains as I will be returning to Thailand again in October for another 6 months & I don't want to but any nice clothes as im worried that they may end up being ruined again.....

    Thanks in advance

    Bazzer...

P.s no sarcasm that my girlfriend is deliberately staining my clothes.....w00t.gif

  14. Good bike.

After so many positive comments on this bike I'm not even going to push for a test ride after all as I understand being able to actually 'try out a truck or bike here is a major 'inconvenience' to the dealers.

I know I could rent one for a few days and I was tempted to early on but even this seems pointless as I'm by no means expert so wouldn't really appreciate the technical differences from other bikes some of you experienced guys have discussed on this forum over the years. I like it so I'll get it.

One small hitch tho, I'm very fond of my old Honda Wave with it's front basket...how do I fit one on the PCX? smile.png (in matte black of course as I wouldn't want to spoil the appearance).

    Hi ray,

Ive just ordered mine & was wondering whether you have found a basket for the Pcx? I would like to fit one to mine for extra storage space, im not too worried about the colour as you could easily get it sprayed to match the bike.

  15. I've not added any mods as such but I bought a few packets of MOGLO Hi Vis reflective stickers to my black Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker & also my black Caberg flip front helmet, the stickers are black so you cant see them until you shine light on them, you certainly need them while riding at night in Thailand, I've also bought a pair of twin snail horns to replace the standard horn on my return to Thailand in a weeks time, im not saying that any of these will save my life but they will certainly help! smile.png

  16. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good insurance company to insure myself & pillion passenger fully & any third parties involved for my 2011 Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker, I've got my Thai bike licence & paid the basic insurance & tax etc but would like total peace of mind in the unlikely event of an accident, I would also like to know as I don't want to insure for loss or damage to my bike whether I can get cover for 6 months as this is the maximum time I stay here each year.

    Best Regards

    Baz.

  17. Can confirm that now crimminal record check performed. Here is the process for a US citizen. Many people pay a few thousand baht to one of the agencies located near embassy to take care of the Thai side of the paperwork.

    TH

"Can confirm that now crimminal record check performed."

For "now" read "no," as in"

Can confirm that no crimminal record check performed.

    Hi all,

Im probably in the wrong post as i cant find the right one for my situation, im thinking of retireing in thailand at the age of 50,but as im only 42 its early days, i have a criminal record for a petty crime for shoplifting that happened 22 years ago, ive never re-offended & was wondering whether i will have any problems appyling for a retirement visa? What sort of criminal record check do i need for a retirement visa for thailand? & will it show my criminal record or not?

    Kind Regards

  18. People keep talking about the Kawasaki D-Tracker 125, but if you call any official Kawasaki telephone numbers you get no, "that model not have in Thailand" if you manage to get a bit up to the a manager in English will explain that the model is not made in Thailand and they have no plans of importing it.

But then this can be absolutely not correct as this person also said that Kawasaki Thailand will not distribute the Kawasaki ZX-6R in Thailand.... Somebody said they will import them into Thailand last year...??? So anybody has a telephone number of a Kawasaki person who says different???

    [/quote

Ive seen the D-Tracker 125 in the u.k for sale, no sign of the 250cc version..... :)
