  1. Ive had to use Bikes for sale as there isnt any other options to post a new topic, so would like some advice, I havnt been able to return to Thailand because of covid & my bike is coming up to its second year without being taxed, I know that when I eventually go to tax it, I will have to pay for the last few years, a mate of mine said that after 3 years of not taxing my bike it will be taken off the system & I will have to pay 4 to 5 thousand baht to get it back on, does anyone know if this is true as to me it sounds ridiculously expensive.....

    Thanks in advance.....

I no longer have the bike but I did change if for the same make if I rememeber.  6-months I used it with no issues.  Actually, within that 6 months I rode it 4 times.  Bike started with no issues.   In your post above you say just over a year.  That's not bad going if the bike wasn't used other than just to run it on idle from time to time.

Oh o.k, my battery was on a battery tender & wasn't left to go completely flat, the previous battery was a cheap one & lasted over 4 years, well anyway thanks for the reply......

    Cheers

Who was charging the battery while you were away in UK? No lead-acid battery will survive prolonged neglect if not regularly charged - fortnightly at worst but preferably weekly - or left on a permanent trickle charger.

On my second bike I had a super-cheap 9 Ah battery from new but, because it was regularly charged, it lasted 4 years until it was replaced with an identical super-cheap 9 Ah battery which was 630฿ . The bike gets little use these days but the battery is put on a charger every weekend and can be started easily.

You don't get extra longevity just by spending a bit more.

Buy your cheap battery but then take care of it.

    Hi Martinl,

My girlfriend was starting the bike up just to get the oil circulating every few weeks & was keeping the battery charged using my Oxford optimizer charger, the previous battery had lasted over 4 years & was a cheapo, I totally agree with you regarding maintaining batteries, im gonna buy the cheap battery & see if the bike will start as at first i thought there might of been a problem with the electrics (rats chewing wiring etc).....

    Thanks for the quick reply.....

  4. Can anyone recommend a battery for my bike, before I left for the U.k I decided to pay a bit extra & buy a YUASA battery, this lasted just over a year, completely dead (wouldnt charge) so I'm now looking for something cheap just till I return, have seen a battery on lazada which is half the price of the YUASA, anyone know if this is any good?

    Cheers

  7. Could anyone recommend a battery for my 2010 Kawasaki D-Tracker? Before I left thailand I decided to replace the cheap battery that has been in the bike for over 5 years & buy a YUASA battery, my girlfriend had been starting the bike for me just to get the oil circulating & used my Oxford optimizer charger to keep the battery full charged, just over a year the battery was dead & wouldn't charge up, so at the moment I'm still stuck in the u.k & was looking for a cheap battery just to use till i return, ive seen some cheap batteries on lazada & a friend of mine said to try shoppee.....

  8. Hi,

Thank you for all the replies, I've just found some old statements that I had to have send to me through the post from my building society (e-savings) for proof of funds for my online visa a few years back & it was £5000 & from some of the replies I have had from members, I was being asked for the in-correct information for the visa that I was applying for, I knew at the time that things weren't right & there where a lot of members on the forums regarding the new online visa application system & I for one had to submit duplicate copy's to proceed any further to complete my application, well anyway I'm going to keep £3000 in my account permanently just to be on the safe side when borders are open, but like we all know things can change & being prepared for the worst is the best policy.....

    Cheers

There is no such requirement at this time. It does not mention any minimum amount for any amount of time.

Only a METV has a 200k baht in the bank for 6 months requirement that is about 5000 pounds.

The standard financial proof for a visa is 20,000 baht.

It sounds like the online application that I used last time was incorrect & that they where asking the wrong information.....

There was never a requirement to have 5000 pounds in the bank for 6 months to get a single entry tourist visa.

That was for a special tourist visa (STV) and that was dropped some time ago.

The requirement a few years ago when you could no longer apply for a visa by post where you signed a declaration that you had enough funds for your stay in Thailand, I had done this for many years & then all of a sudden it changed to online only & you had to show proof of £5000 for 6 months.........

    That requirement is not required.

If you outline in detail such things as how long you would like to stay in Thailand.

Which country you from. Your age. etc You will obtain better advice re your options.

I would like to stay for around 3-4 months max, I'm 52 & from the U.K........

  12. Hi All,

I know everything is all up in the air at the moment with the covid virus etc, but is it still £5000 in you bank account for 6 months to qualify for a SETV Visa (2 months + 1 month extension at immigration)  ?

I'm thinking of trying to travel at the end of this the year around November -December.....

    Thanks in advance.....

Seriously, waaay too much drama. Send me the number via PM and I'll top it up for you. Life is too short for you to stress yourself out over such small things.

Thanks for kind gesture, but im all good thanks, topped up & the validity date is up till the end of the year.

Not at all. That is just paranoia. If you had Roaming enabled and planned ahead it would not be an issue.

Also you can buy Tourist SIMs without a package for 49 or 50 baht. They just don't put them in front of your face unless you ask. It's a sales outlet and I'm sure the airport space is expensive. So they prefer if you spend a bit more. They all do the same thing there.

I've always had roaming enabled and also planned ahead for the last 6 years, but for some reason this year with thousands or foreigner's being stranded in there home countries & unable to return they will lose there number & there credit if this was there only means of topping up & if DTAC really cared about there customers they would of sorted this out, you've only got to look on the reviews on the play store for the DTAC app & see, not once has DTAC answered to any of the negative reviews.........
