Was wondering how I would be able to apply for a METV in the u.k? Used to do it without any problems before they changed  it, Can get the £5000 in the bank but my work is seasonal, March - October, there is no guarantee of a job on my return, but have been doing the same job for 9 years......

  3. Just an update on my in & out border run which I did last Friday, on my return to immigration, he flicked through my passport & asked where was my Visa in which I replied that I had initially entered the country on a SETV & then extended it at Krabi Immigration, he then showed me an A4 sized paper with the new regulations on, that was also on the wall, I explained to him that I knew about this & this was my first time this year, he said not to come back again & go to Laos or Malaysia etc, I told him I wouldn't be returning & that I had already booked my flight home on the 11th March, he spoke to the other Immigration officer & then told me he would let my through this time but not to return again, wasn't asked for proof of flight details or funds (which I had 20,000 baht) on me just in case, I was obviously apologetic & he stamped my passport & said have a nice day, this is the first time I have had any problems &  was shitting myself a bit, my passport didn't have any land  border crossings in it, just METV for the last 3-4 years, I don't think I will be doing it again.........

    • They have limited the number of land border entries to two per year from the January 1st 2017.
    • As a Brit you would have qualified for 30 days before the changes, but they have increased the countries that were limited to 15 to 30 days too from January 1st.

I read on another post that you had replied to & saw about this & also an update on land border entries etc, thanks for you advice....

    Cheers

You should have no problem doing an in/out border hop (not all crossings) for a 30 day visa exempt entry, which can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for 1,900 baht.

I think I read on the internet that you are allowed two times a year & am I right that they lifted the 2 weeks to a month again for land border crossings, I need to be 100% as i will be riding my bike there & don't want to be stuck in Malaysia & my bike being left in Thailand.....

    Thanks for your reply.....

  6. I would be grateful for some advice, I'm from the U.k & entered Thailand with a SETV, after the two months had passed I went to immigration & extended it for another month, this will take me up to around the 27th January 2017,  I was planning on going to Penang & applying for another two months visa around the 20th January, I already have my flight booked for the 11th March, was wondering whether it would be possible to do a border run (in & out) & then extend this for a further month, I don't have any back to back visa runs in my passport & have been using METV for the last 4 years without extending, staying for roughly 4-5 months without any problems.

I was thinking this would be a lot less hassle & also much cheaper, I will take proof of flight & maybe 20,000 baht to be on the safe side.

    Thanks In advance.....

P.s the border that I always go to is near Satun (Khuan Don) border......

  7. O.k thanks for everyone's replies, I think it is really down to me, next time I see that the price doesn't match the shelf one I will tell them there & then......

    Thanks once again....

  8. Ive owned my Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker for about 4 years now & when I first bought it, it had done 10,000 Klms, it has now covered 42,000 Klms , I've replaced the normal stuff, tyres, chain & sprockets & have changed oil & filter myself every 5000 Klms I've noticed its getting a bit rattly (Top End) & it may be using a bit of oil as I have noticed a few oil speckles on my jacket & around the rear silencer on long runs, it starts first time from cold or warm & runs fine, I have been told that it needs a Major engine service, I have been quoted about 3,300 Baht plus parts etc, can anyone give me an incite as to what work they will do, im assuming that they may adjust the valves or maybe replace if worn out, is there anything I should insist replacing while they have got the top end apart, new valve stem seals or even new cam chain etc?

    Cheers

  9. Hi to all members,

I am curious as to whether this is a genuine mistake or possibly a scam, as it is not the first time that it has happened to me over the years, I use a number of 7-11 stores where I stay in Krabi & have noticed that prices can sometimes be marked up incorrectly not only in 7-11 but other stores etc, I recently bought a number of items from my local 7-11 & was charged 25 baht for a bar of soap priced up as 17 Baht, I never said anything at the time as it was busy & didn't want the hassle, I get it in the neck from my partner to not mention it, so we both went to the same store & purchased the same item & was charged the correct price of 17 Baht, so I'm wondering how I can be charged another 8 baht as it is all scanned through there computer?

    Thanks In advance......

The new METV came into effect last year on November 15th. The old Double and Triple Entry Visas are no longer available and you only have the choice of a SETV or METV. They will definitely want to see at least £5K, but they might be flexible on the 6 months.

O.k thanks for your advice, I will know next time, so I'm assuming my only option is to get a single tourist before I leave (60 Days) then extend it for another (30 Days) before it expires? Also once my (90 Days) are up, could I leave & fly back in & get (30 Days) on arrival & then extend that for (30 Days) ? Or is it only for a week?

    Thanks in advance..

  11. Hi,

I've been using the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa for many years now & did hear about the new one, I've just looked on the London Embassy website to apply for my visa & was surprised by the extra paperwork, I'm just under the £5000 in the bank & its certainly hasn't been in there for six months, I was wondering if I could still apply for the old one as I read that the new one does come into affect until November 15th, I was just going to apply anyway & hope for the best, does anyone know any information regarding this matter?

    Thanks in Advance.

  12. Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions & would be grateful if anyone can give my some advice, I've been changing the oil & oil filter on my 2010 D-Tracker every 6000klm (advised by Dealer) the bike had 10,000 klm when I bought it & is now reaching 40,000, was wondering whether I should do it more frequently say 4,0000klm ?

The oil I've been using has been a mixture of fully synthetic, semi synthetic & have now started to use Shell Advance AX7 Synthetic Based which ive read good reviews & is reasonably priced, is this oil good enough? I don't work the engine hard & only do the odd long journey from Krabi to satun & back for visa runs.....

Just one more thing, I've read that the valves should be checked, adjusted, etc (probably long overdue) apart from the engine being a little rattily which it has always been like, it runs fine, starts first time & doesn't burn oil, should I be worried about the engine being checked as I'm reluctant to let someone strip it down as I've had a few problems in the past....

    Thanks In Advance....
