I suggest going to Vinum Lector in Hang Dong. The location is shown on google maps. It is in the Star Avenue mall. They have a very wide range of interesting wines at generally very good prices. Ask the branch manager there, Davide (Italian I believe), for some recommendations based on your tastes and the food you will eat it with. As one example, they have Chateau Pontet-Fumet, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru, for only a bit over 1100B, if red Bordeaux wines are to your taste

I think you have misunderstood the question. I already have a Thai tax ID. I have been filing since 2012 (and always receive a refund of the tax automatically deducted from interest earned---I expect a refund this year also, which is as good a reason to file as any). My question is not about a Thai tax ID for me, but about a Thai tax ID for the UK government. I have tried the Revenue Dept. phone number for questions and they have no idea! I don't think I can go down to my local tax office in the name of the British government and ask them to issue a tax ID for them... Another poster on Asean Now has suggested I wait to file until March, when the situation may (possibly) be clearer. I think that is good advice, but I would still be interested in hearing from anyone who knows the answer to this question.

I have a question about filling out the Personal Income Tax Return (form ...90). I receive old age pension from the UK here in Thailand. I will declare it for Thai tax for 2024. The form asks for the Thai tax ID number of the payer. As far as I know, the UK government does not have a Thai tax ID. Does anyone know what number I should write there? Thanks for the help

Best Friend Visa does retirement extensions for a fee of 4K (in addition to the regular Immigration fee of 1900B). I have used them for years. They are very good and reliable

I also recommend Khun Song. I have been using his building services for more than 15 years. Pete Pad Thai: I have sent a PM to you with his phone number

Sub forum - restaurant reviews - Chiang Mai: Food for Thought
neilrob replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in Chiang Mai
The restaurant is actually called Food 4 Thought, with the numeral in place of the word "for". There are two locations, the original, which is near the Phucome junction, and the new one which is on Bumrungrat Rd. Neither is in the Santhitham Circle area. The original is shown correctly on Google Maps. The new location does not appear to be on Google Maps, so might have closed. I have never eaten at the new location. I have eaten many times over the years (including recently) at the original. I recommend it. Quite a large menu with well prepared and generously sized soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps etc. Excellent breakfast dishes. They have vegan food if desired. Prices are very reasonable. The menu is available on the internet if you look at it on Google. -
Dr. Pawak at Kitcha Dental has done a number for me. I originally went to him, several years ago, after my previous dentist, at Ram, had told me that an implant in a particular location was impossible because of the small amount of bone left. He explained clearly how it could be done successfully. The implant has lasted well with no problems. He has since done others for me. Prices are higher than elsewhere, but I have trust in him, which is important

world wide income taxation update

You are right about this. Just the possibility of this happening will discourage wealthy expats and hence damage the economy -
world wide income taxation update

Even if they manage to draft a workable law, there is a huge difference between drafting a law and getting it past parliament. I am sure there are many in parliament who would be affected by the law and would not be at all keen on passing it... -
Places to EAT around Chiang Mai - reviews and discussion
neilrob replied to Trujillo's topic in Chiang Mai
I have eaten at many restaurants in Chiang Mai, including many times over the years at Coq d'Or and Somm. Both are worthwhile. However, my hands down winner, for food, atmosphere and service is L'Elephant. Great place. Ikigai, near Meechok Plaza, is worth trying for their quirky, inventive cuisine -
I have a condo in Nakornping. It is a good building, conveniently situated. The facilities (lifts, which are quite new, pool etc.) all work very well

i really don't understand the point of your post. We don't even know what restaurant you are talking about. I hope you tried it, in view of the generous offer from the owner not to charge you if you did not like the food

I agree about Vision Centre. Reasonably priced, speedy, professional service. My long time ophthalmologist at Ram Hospital, whom I have been seeing for annual check ups for 17 years, recommended Vision Centre as the best place to get glasses.

Agent for Egypt tourist visa for a Thai?
neilrob replied to neilrob's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
He finally got the visa yesterday. I probably would not have started it if I had realised how tedious the process would be. I found an agent who handled it without it being necessary to go to Bangkok. If anyone else is looking for an agent for an Egyptian visa, then I can recommend Visatogo. They have offices in various cities in Thailand. -
Agent for Egypt tourist visa for a Thai?
neilrob replied to neilrob's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I don't understand how this was possible, but would really like to know. Thank you for your reply to my PM, but from what you said it appears your wife got an evisa online, which even the web site you referenced says is not possible for Thai citizens. I think it would be very helpful for others going to Egypt if you could explain the details of how you did this supposedly impossible feat by posting here, so others could follow your helpful example -

Agent for Egypt tourist visa for a Thai?
neilrob replied to neilrob's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Thais are required to get a visa in advance, and it cannot be done via the internet. I don't fancy trying to go to Egypt on the chance I can bribe someone in the immigration queue, even if the airline would allow you on the plane without a visa -

Thank you for this suggestion. Unfortunately, if you go through what they offer then it amounts to the unhelpful advice to contact the embassy -
Agent for Egypt tourist visa for a Thai?
neilrob replied to neilrob's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Oh, no, it isn't. The information you will get by doing this is contradictory or unhelpful. Sources on the internet do not even agree on the address of the Egyptian embassy in Bangkok. That is why I am looking for someone who actually knows what they are doing to help -
Agent for Egypt tourist visa for a Thai?
neilrob replied to neilrob's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I have of course tried emailing. They don't reply -
Does anyone know of an agent who will help with a tourist visa for a Thai to visit Egypt? I want to take a trip there with a Thai companion. We have previously travelled together to many countries, including the US, the UK, New Zealand, Schengen etc., but Egypt makes it more difficult than any. The Bangkok embassy has no web site, so I cannot even get the application form or find out what the requirements are. If I were in Bangkok, I would go there in person, but we are not. This is bizarre for a country such as Egypt that really needs tourists to keep the economy afloat. I am hoping to find an agent who can help.

I thought extortion was illegal? International shipper does it again
neilrob replied to PeterA's topic in General Topics
If you import items into Thailand you have to pay customs duty and VAT on them. You should expect this on an international shipment. This is what the shipper is asking you to pay, plus a small service fee to handle the transaction. This is not extortion but government taxes you pay on imports, particularly if you ship via an express service. If you ship by the post office, then taxes are normally waived below a certain value, but it would take a long time. What value did the person shipping the glasses to you declare for the shipment? Thai Customs will normally charge taxes on this plus on the shipping cost. You can get an itemised list of the charges from the shipper's web site if you look
