  1. Hi all, is it possible to bring your children into a casino and allow them to play? My child is 9 years old. I am told that it is possible but is that true for all casinos or only some?
  2. Ah thanks, that would explain why I haven't been able to find one. So the biggest gains also carry the greatest risks? Shares right?
  3. Ok thanks guys. Please forgive my ignorance but in the UK we have such things as ISA accounts, which require a larger deposit but a higher rate of interest. Does Thailand have such things as a high saver account. Apologies for asking here but I won't be back for a while, so I can't pop into the SCB anytime soon. If I put a lump sum of, for example, 500,000 baht and say I don't want to touch if for 8 years, would they have an account type which I could profit from more than the usual current account.
  4. Hi there, I need to set aside about 500,000 baht for my daughter's university fees, but that's like 8 years off. What options do I have? I don't need to touch it and would prefer it if I couldn't. DO the major banks offer long-term investment options for that amount? I am with the SCB. Thanks for the input.
  5. There's also a hotel in PoiPet where they strictly monitor internet usage from guests, then if they catch anyone using this site, they send some boys up to their room and throw them off the balcony...can't remember the name of it though.
  6. There are many schools offering similar packages throughout the country. Many of them are using the term Songkran but the dates are much broader than Songkran itself, like the one you have linked. Unfortunately some of left Thailand some time ago and aren't up to date with the current state of affairs. I thought all schools were closed but am informed that language schools are open and running summer camps as they put it (throughout Songkran), how many are doing this I don't know.
  7. Hi there all, usually there are many kinds of courses run over Songkran, some in the city, some in the country, some in language school, and some international schools run them. Does anyone know if they will resume this year? If so and you have recommendations, please post them. The only dates I can work with are April 13th - 17th.
  8. Hi all, as you may know, it's children's day on Saturday coming. Does anyone have any recommendations or know of anything big planned?
  9. It's good work. That stuff does a lot of damage. I shudder to think how many people are on it but seizing that amount suggests quite a few.
  10. Couls someone tell me if anything is planned for xmas in Bangkok this year. From what I understand, Central World Plaza has a lot of things happening and also in Asiatique, there are some things. Does anyone else know of something happeneing?
  11. They seem to like jumping over the border and gambling away in Cambodia and Laos, so I don't see why they shouldn't.
  12. Yes, that's very helpful thanks.
  13. Hello all, I was wondering if you could help. I am from the uk but my child is in Thailand. In the uk there are options where it's possible to open an account or make an investment for a child and they collect it later. For example on their 18th birthday, they will receive an amount (previously deposited plus interest). Usually the account can't be touched before a certain date. Do they have such things in Thailand? I distinctly remember something collapsing in the past once, a similar sort of thing, something to do with long-term investments anyway. Any advice on how I can create something where I can make a deposit as a gift of some kind which can't be touched for say 5 years or at a certain date would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Yeah but there must be something for 'to be left alone to do something.' Cannot study in my room in peace for example.
  15. How can we say Cannot watch tv in peace (maybe because of noise outside) OR Cannot read in peace (maybe because of children playing in the room) So 'in peace' means unable to do something because of lack of privacy and being disturbed by something.
  16. Not sure if I understand this post. Has the project been given the green light and is going ahead or is it awaiting approval?
  17. I tried but got no further than the British gov website. So, if you don't mind me asking, what is the cost of a British passport renewal for Thailand?
  18. What do you mean? Appointment fee? The cost of a passport must be more than that surely? Do you mean the total cost for appointment and passport is 1560 baht?
  19. Yes, I agree there probably is but it's a high-level question and not easily answered. So what does playing fiddle to a buffalo mean then?
  20. You probably know of the story concerning Icarus who flew too close to the sun and burnt his wings. Is there a similar expression or concept in Thai?
  21. He teaches. He told me recently that he is worried that half his life is over and he hasn't done anything with it. So what's the term for someone who gets to half way through their life and they feel anxiety over it because they only half of it left. We call that a mid-life crises. The Thai's most have a term for a certain type of worry when you reach a certain age.
