  1. The state pension doesn't even come into this. A million or so goes a long way in retirement. It's kind of unfortunate that these people will be taxed to death from next year - because all that money they're bringing is not from state pensions, it will be from investment income, sale of property, etc - all of which they apparently plan to tax.
  2. She worked as an au pair when she was a kid and now she's an ambassador - that's the strangest cover story I've ever read. I wonder what she did to become elevated into the corridors of power in Sweden and the various embassies she's worked at around the world?
  3. Why is the Prime Minister / Finance Minister even involved with such a decision? Is he micro managing everything that happens in all branches of government?
  4. Around these parts we usually get about 2 weeks of cooler weather before it turns around and starts rising again. That's been my experience over the last 15 or so years anyway
  5. Six months. I'll give it six months before he's out on his arse.
  6. They most certainly do, remind me - what time does the big 'full moon party' on that crappy island close at?
  7. I read the other day that the god like masters who reside in Bangkok already announced the 'trial' won't be happening in Pattaya. That's the end of it. The masters in Bangkok have spoken now get back to work and shut the <deleted> up.
  8. Telling someone they are wrong isn't an insult. If he attacked a younger man he would likely have had the crap beaten out of him.
  9. Many such videos were online in the days after it happened, including this one. They were already out there.
  10. Half the world has seen that video as it was all over Twitter / X
  11. Yes, it was something like that - a Thai version, I lost it years ago though - will be somewhere around the house I guess.
  12. I may be wrong on the distillation process but some of them do put the minerals back in once whatever cleansing method is done. I had one of those water testing devices that told you how many parts per million of 'stuff' was in there - different brands had very different results.
  13. Not all bottled water is created in the same way. I believe most of it is distilled Some brands reinsert the minerals that are lost in the distillation process, some don't appear to do this and essentially sell distilled water. You can tell which is which without any pre knowledge by boiling an electric kettle with some brands of water repeatedly over a week or two and watch the mineral residue build up by the day. Singha = no mineral residue in my kettle Nestle = lots of mineral residue in my kettle. So personally I purchase Singha for hot drinks and Nestle for drinking 'neat'.
  14. You need to report it within 3 months of discovering the crime. Once it's reported it's a whole different story, three years is the limit at that point I believe - so assuming you reported it when you found it there's still plenty of time left. Good luck with that though
  15. It may be as little as three months unless you report it to to the police From the date you discovered the fraud.
  16. Yes, there were a couple of what I would deem suspicious arrests of people on overstay at Phuket airport.
  17. They may have altered the law in the last 5 years or so (in fact I'm pretty sure they did) - but that should apply to new offences from the day the law changed. There most definitely is a statute of limitations - it all depends on exactly what the original charge was as to how long it was and if you maage to do a runner it 100% did work in your favour if you evaded capture for long enough. 15 years is one of the limits and it is, coincidentally how long this guy waited, however doing this would almost certainly leave a foreigner as a 'persona non grata' Like nearly all other cases which are reported on once they disappear inside the court system we're unlikely to ever hear about it again unless he gets released and deported due to immigration really getting it wrong.
  18. That is not correct based on what I have read, it only doesn't apply if you've been sentenced.
  19. So these illegal cable companies choose to follow the law when it comes to BBC, Sky, TNT, etc for some reason? That's the bit I don't understand - maybe they took legal action. My cable company used to have both BBC and CNN among others but they were slowly removed one by one. They still air the torrents though.
  20. I wonder if tax paying foreigners will also get the 10,000 Baht?
  21. Now this is hilarious. Only a few days ago I was flicking through the channels on the cable tv service I have and noticed that the new Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 movie was playing - I had already seen this movie having previously downloaded the torrent, the quality was the same - perfect. They obviously download the latest torrents and put these movies on all the time and they've been doing it for many years. Nobody seems to care as it still happens. I have no idea where this tv channel comes from but it has Thai subtitles and the soundtracks are in English. This same cable provider don't show BBC 24 or CNN, the news channels they do offer are pretty low on quality - France 24 is about the only one that's consistently available.
  22. The futures ETFs are very old news, and things are changing a lot very recently. I will summarise the current situation. Suddenly about 12 of the largest investment companies in the US have filed for spot ETFs over the last few months. Grayscale is attempting to convert their current listing into an ETF which was denied by the SEC, they sued the SEC and won with quite a ruling, the judge called out the SEC for being 'arbitrary and capricious' which is a big 'no no' in US law. The SEC decided not to appeal this ruling and announced as much on the last day an appeal could be filed. Names like BlackRock, ARK, VanEck, Invesco/Galaxy, Fidelity, Valkyrie, Franklin Templeton and others - these are the companies who want to manage spot Bitcoin ETFs right now and they are pressuring the SEC, specifically Gensler who appears to be on a political crusade which has already been ruled arbitrary and capricious. The amount of trillions of dollars these companies manage between them is huge and can not be understated. So that brings us to the newer spot ETF applications which are coming through right now, here's a list with the various SEC deadlines as prepared by James Seyffart : These recent developments are spiking interest and almost certainly account for the 28% rise in the trading price of BTC in the last 10 days. The above is from James Seyffart who works for Bloomberg, he tweets a lot about ETFs and you can find him here : https://twitter.com/JSeyff Are all of the above asset management companies wrong and somehow deluded? Or perhaps you simply missed the fact that this Bitcoin thing might be catching on - read that list of management companies again.....
