Bank insists I wear a mask
ukrules replied to happydays's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's not his job to set a good example. He should do whatever he wants. If I was sitting next to him wearing my mask and he wasn't wearing his then why should I care? After all the mask I'm wearing works, right? -
We have something similar in the UK, it's the post code, narrows the delivery address down to a very small handful or addresses, then they just need to look at the house number or name.

This AML stuff is getting out of hand lately. I sent a wire to myself last week and I know it's been flagged for 'extra scrutiny' as it didn't arrive the next day like it normally does. How much did I send? Only about 100,000 Baht - it's pathetic. All in the name of AML / anti terrorist regulations - and this is money sitting in a private bank account, not cash. I hope countries with overzealous regulations really suffer from rejection internationally - it might teach them a lesson in the medium term.

Elon Musk says Twitter will offer 'amnesty' to suspended accounts
ukrules replied to Scott's topic in World News
All he would have to do is prove they're applying an illegal tax and operate a monopoly. That will take a lot of money but not billions. Other far smaller companies are already taking these 'app stores' on. Apple has become such a joke for people who write software lately, even more so than google. -
My mother did hers online a few days ago, we filled out the forms online, it was free and there was no mention of any medical or eye test. It asked her if she required glasses for distance vision - which she doesn't so she answered no. I filled out the forms for her as she's not 100% on the internet these days - I did it for her over one of those remote control apps on her windows laptop. She's nearly 80. It hasn't arrived yet but it's only been like 3 days so far.

Health minister challenged over young boys seen smoking weed in Pattaya
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The first thing that popped into my mind is that this story looks to me like a setup by the press or some opponent who then either sold or passed it onto the press. That's how they do it in the west ????- 94 replies

Home immigration checks may be on the uptick
ukrules replied to markwhite's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A home visit is not part of the deal with a TE visa at all. -
Home immigration checks may be on the uptick
ukrules replied to markwhite's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The interesting thing here is that home visits are not usually done for those who are working, are they? This suggests to me that they're operating outside the law. They're in for a shock if they turn up at my door as I know there's absolutely no grounds for a home visit.- 125 replies

Visa exemption extensions changed?
ukrules replied to dj230's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, it's only a problem if they ask for it, at which point it becomes a big problem if you don't have it. -
Criminal Background Check and Elite Visa
ukrules replied to JessabellHeart's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You don't need a police check to get a TE visa, it's not part of the application process. -
Criminal Background Check and Elite Visa
ukrules replied to JessabellHeart's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That's right. I think it's to keep the wanted criminals out, nothing more. -
Criminal Background Check and Elite Visa
ukrules replied to JessabellHeart's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Don't sweat it at all - they don't do any kind of proper background check. They will check to see if you're on any wanted lists that are shared internationally and perhaps check to see if you have any criminal history in Thailand - but that's about it. The only kind of background check that will show up what you're talking about is one that you have to do yourself - and they don't ask for this kind of background check. I know this 100% as I've done it myself. When you apply for one of the visas that requires a background check then you're going to have to go to the hassle of getting a 'proper' background check in your home country - which I believe involves giving your finger prints to the FBI in the US and waiting a while - you need this for some working visas I believe - that's a completely different process than they do when applying for the TE visa. You just fill out the form and they either approve you or they don't and they don't have the ability to do the kind of background check on you as that is something which you need to initiate yourself - so you would know about it I'm from the UK and the only way to get the equivalent is to do it yourself via something called the Association of Chief Police Officers - they offer a 'police check' certificate. This has never been requested when I've took out a TE membership and I've done it twice so far. So just to summarise - you don't need the full FBI background check that certain other visas do require when applying for the Thailand Elite visa so you can disregard anything that sugests going down that route. It's not relevant to the TE visa - I believe it would be very relevant if you were applying for a teachers working visa - but that's a very different system entirely. -
Covid-Infected Security Guard Dies At Factory Booth
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's unlikely that such clarity is going to be available. There's another case mentioned in a link on the same news source, this one : https://thainewsroom.com/2022/11/24/covid-infected-thai-man-dies-while-working-from-home/ Here we have a 38 year old man who was working from home after contracting covid He died on November 24 According to the article he contracted covid on Sunday Nov 20th which was 4 days before. We've seen how covid works over the last few years, but we're supposed to believe that this 38 year old man caught and died from covid in just 4 days, lets be generous and include the day of infection AND the day of death - making it 5 days flat. Based on everything we know - that's not how covid works, is it? According to everything I've read there is an incubation period which can be anything from 2 to 5 days (perhaps longer in earlier versions) but this guy both caught it, became ill and subsequently died from the infection in just 5 days? This kind of thing makes me think that covid may be much more prevalent than they know, or than they say. Or the nature of covid has changed beyond recognition - that's the main concern. -

Elon Musk says Twitter will offer 'amnesty' to suspended accounts
ukrules replied to Scott's topic in World News
You're absolutely correct on this point. At the moment these companies tend to be small and lack massive funding. Do you think the worlds richest man (on paper at least) could change that if he chose to go to war with Apple and Google? I think you know the answer and it's what I said - he could acquire one of the Linux phone companies and then spend hundreds of millions of dollars developing it - just like Google did with Linux when creating Android and Apple did with BSD when creating MacOS/IOS. That's what Elon Musk does - he buys companies and changes them. -

You've heard of MacOS / IOS right? It started off being built on BSD. Tiny fraction - don't make me laugh. Half the world is using it in one form or another. -

I hear that back in the 1950's things were ticking along just fine with such a low population, what's all the worry about?
