Hyperbole. I don't see any frenzy of hate. Just a few isolated incidents. You may be aware but homosexuality is not promoted by various religions (Christianity, Islam etc.). This is not a new thing, it is thousands of years old. A quick trip to many Muslim countries would clarify this for you very quickly. So if you wish to show your support of LGBTQ++ in such an open, flagrant way then you run the risk of offending certain groups. With the rise of multicultural societies such as the US and the UK, members of these groups may well be living next door to you. Now, before you go all Strawman on me, I am not suggesting she deserved it. Far from it, I think it is a terrible incident and condolences to her family. I am merely stating that people should be aware that by flying their Pride flag or any other flag with potentially divisive political/religious connotations they run the risk (rightly or wrongly) of offending certain people. If they know that and choose to proceed anyway, in the knowledge that they will be offending certain groups then that is their personal choice. In this case she flew the flag in the knowledge that some people would be offended and then confronted the person who was offended. Very brave. RIP.

Donald Trump confirms he will skip Republican presidential debates
JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
He's got such a massive lead that he's probably better off not taking part. He has nothing to gain by participating and everything to lose, especially given his tendency to say controversial things. So I would say politically, he has been well advised. -
Strange. Are they implying this was some kind of "Anti Thai" attack? Do they have any evidence for that? Seeing as her belongings weren't taken this seems like a personal attack, raising the distinct possibility that the killer was also a part of the Thai community. Statistically, most murders are done by people the victim knows.

The EU is a notoriously left wing (and corrupt) organization, so it is no surprise that they would favour Biden over Trump. Now I am neither a fan or Biden nor Trump (despite all the Strawmen on here), but if the EU are terrified of Trump, that implies to me that he is doing something right.

Very sad. RIP Mrs Carlton. Unfortunately LGBTQ++ issues have become very politicized and quite vitriolic on both sides of the debate, while also offending various religious groups. I'm sure Mrs Carlton understood this, therefore her decision to firstly to fly the flag and secondly to confront the individual who objected to it was very brave, but perhaps somewhat foolhardy in the current climate. I certainly wouldn't encourage my elderly mother to do so. Strange that there are no details about the killer. No name, no photo. I wonder if his identity doesn't fit the narrative?

Flat performance against Spurs. Diet Pep seems to be lacking a bit of fizz. They don't seem to have progressed much in the year he's been in charge. -
I'd guess a motorbike taxi guy who moonlights for Grab/FoodPanda for some extra cash. I can sympathize with him. Why should he have to pay for other people's poor lifestyle choices? Probably not the smartest thing to post it on social media though.

England beat Australia to reach Womens World Cup final !
JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Actually that was my exact point. Maybe re read my post. I said that men will always beat women but that the women's game relies more on skill than power and I like it for that. Seriously, read my post (slowly - three times). These strawman arguments are so tiresome. -

Should be put in the lower leagues for a year or two. Even that would be generous. If I got things so horribly wrong in my job I'd be sacked. -
I would have thought that games like chess would be one of the few that women could complete against men. Maybe not win, but at least be competitive. I wonder why they can't? In sports where strength is a key factor it is totally ridiculous of course, as proven recently when a trans woman lifted 200 (yes two hundred) kilos more than the second place finisher.???? https://nypost.com/2023/08/16/canadian-powerlifter-april-hutchinson-reacts-to-biological-male-anne-andres-breaking-womens-national-record/ Best to just keep it simple and ban all trans women from womens sport before we end up with a situation where a biological male legally kills a biological female in a boxing ring on national TV in the name of "diversity". Sounds like something from that 80's movie "Running Man" with Arnie.

England beat Australia to reach Womens World Cup final !
JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yes it's laughable to compare the quality. A low level Welsh team of men beat the USA women world champions 12-0. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12151485/Wrexham-Red-Dragons-knock-Women-Soccer-Tournament-beating-12-0.html Like I said previously, once you drop below the VERY top level of the women's game the quality is awful whereas the men's game has strength in depth, a 4th tier team from the English leagues would probaby score double figures against every women's national team. However, that doesn't mean that women's football can't be enjoyed. It's just different, much slower, more space etc. It actually reminds me of some men's games from 30-40 years ago when the focus was more on skill and less on physicality/pace which is actually a good thing IMO. Some modern day players in the men's game (especially the Premier League's weaker sides) are great physical specimens in terms of strength and pace but have very little skill and their first touch is so bad that their second touch tends to be a tackle. -
England beat Australia to reach Womens World Cup final !

Great result for England. Women's football is much like women's boxing. At the very top level it is a decent quality and quite watchable (I am a big fan of Chantelle Cameron) but dip below that and it drops off very fast and resembles a Sunday morning pub team. I watched the first 20 minutes of Sweden vs Japan and it was awful, like an under 14's game (I ended up turning it off) but I have to say this game was pretty good and the goals scored were of a high quality (especially England's first goal) so kudos to the English women and it's good to see the women's game progressing. I'll certainly watch the final on Sunday, but I'll have to turn the BBC commentary off - I don't know where they got these women commentators from but they seem to be doing a poor impersonation of male commentators (they have the Elizabeth Holmes fake deep voice and all the usual football cliches) and it's as irritating as fingernails being scraped down a blackboard. Good luck to England for Sunday. -
Well, you can read the title of the thread (slowly) if you need clarification but I can confirm that is was essentially a dislike of all non natives. Didn't matter if you were a tourist or a long term stayer. They didn't seem to mind my 20 year old, English, slim girlfriend with long blonde hair. But they seemed to especially dislike white Americans. Can't imagine why, they are such gracious travellers you barely notice they are there ????. I'm sure they'll accept their donations though...

‘Biased.’ ‘Corrupt.’ ‘Deranged.’ Trump’s Taunts Test Limits of Release.
JonnyF replied to Social Media's topic in World News
While I respectfully disagree I have to commend you for choosing the correct platform for posts and opinions like that. Let's wait for the trial and hope the courts are not politically biased. Nobody wants to see the US sink further towards the developing world's system of justice where political enemies are eliminated at the hands of corrupt judges. -
You clearly don't understand the context of my comment and have no idea what I think AI is. I was simply taking the mickey out of another poster who I know to be left wing by insinuating that it is an immature political ideology that AI will "grow out of". It wasn't meant to be taken literally as confirmation of the abilities of AI to change political philosophy over time. Now, stop using broad, vague statements to pretend to appear to be an expert on all things AI. You sound like Elizabeth Holmes "dumbing down" things for her audience when she clearly didn't have a clue herself ????.

What mess? Our economy is outperforming Germany's. ???? https://www.farsnews.ir/en/news/14020525000481/Germany's-Ecnmy-Prjeced-Sall https://news.sky.com/story/uk-economy-grows-by-0-2-ons-figures-show-12937676 Now the Netherlands has also entered recession. https://www.dw.com/en/netherlands-dips-into-recession-after-strong-covid-rebound/a-66551394 It's about time you realized the "mess" was merely a prediction by Remainers. What materialized was nothing of the kind. And it's only been 3 years, during which there was Covid and war in Ukraine. Another 5 years and we'll be even stronger. Mess? Hardly.
