  1. It could be that it's not enforced in Bangkok but why do you see more articles on pedophiles in Pattaya vs. Bangkok? I think it's because Pattaya is a well know destination for pedophiles. Can anyone here really deny that Pattaya has more of a problem with pedophiles than many places in the world?

Could it have something with the fact that Pattaya has the spotlight on it at all times? Message boards, several online english newspapers and millions of visitors coming here too.And when a foreigner here is caught in illicit sex acts his name is spread out all over the news drawing attention to it,while in most western countries it`s hardly mentioned when a pedophile is caught.

  2. If I only go on my own experience of Thailand... the only seriously under age girls I ever saw working in the sex trade was in a Thai only karaoke bar, catering exclusively to Thai men. Even though I was with a Thai friend we were prevented for staying/going inside to look further.

Hearsay - the only seriously underage sex workers I myself have heard about were part of a scam by "police" to entrap foreigners into going with them then to be extorted.

I have also witnessed an arranged marriage between a Thai girl of 13 and a Thai man of 29 years. for an agreed fee.

When I say "seriously underage" I suppose I am referring to apparent ages of 10-12. I don't know if I have witnessed 15-16 year olds working in the sex trade in Bangkok. I assume that I have..

What does seem very obvious is that the underage sex trade is largely for the Thai men, and the small proportion of foreigners who get involved are a very small proportion of the whole problem.

Still as others have pointed out....easier to blame the foreigner. Lets blame the USA for sending their Vietnam troops to Pattaya for R&R. The poor Thais were forced to sell their daughters then for the very first time in history......and there is obviously no going back.

The "poor" thais already had been "forced" to sell their daughters loooooong before US troops came here for R&R .

  3. I think if you looked at the aging male farang population in Phuket colon cancer would be more prevalent. This is just simple statistics. Cancer is more of an old mans disease

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

"Cancer is more of an old mans disease"

Im sure a lot of women of all ages with cancer will disagree with you..............

  4. What has organizing a drug suppression meeting with a police general have to do with being the Minister of Labour.

Chalerm is also the Director of the National Command Centre for Drugs elimination.

Maybe they decided to eliminate his use of "ear medication" whistling.gif ................................

  5. I lived in Thailand and will stay there again. But Pattaya is the last place I would stay. All these retired westerners who stay at Pattaya simply don't know the beauty of many places in Thailand, specially in den north and the northeast. They prefer to stay in a tourist ghetto because they need wurstl and Western food which is difficult to get in some places. Furthermore, Pattaya (and Phuket) are more and more dangerous places, lots of robberies, crimes, etc. No thanks, I won't stay in such ugly places.

Many of us have been to other places in "real" Thailand.Personally most of them reminds of the place I come from in Norway..........beautiful,but boooooring as hell !!

When it comes to your opinion of "dangerous" places like Phuket and Pattaya, been living in both places and I feel safer there then any other place Ive visited around the world.

  6. "A tourist in Thailand is anyone not on a long term visa. They have to leave and reenter every 90 days or less, therefore they are not residents. If the Thais didn't like it, they'd change the rules, ergo they are quite happy to have people spending money in Thailand to support Thais regardless of whatever certain people on TV may think."

    The "rules" have changed !

No more 30 day visa exempt entries via a land border.

Back to back tourist visas becoming difficult to obtain and impossible from some places

Multiple entry "O" and "B" visas virtually impossible.

ED visas similarly "difficult" to obtain without the required paperwork.

Seems to me that the authorities are slowly but surely clamping down !

"slowly but surely clamping down"...........Slowly is the right word.Every year it seems to be a clamping down campaign from Thai authorities regarding visa`s.

Im not holding my breath this time either coffee1.gif .............

  7. I have noticed a sad pattern in general with local Indian restaurants. Not all. But probably most. There is the assumption that if you have the white skin that you can't handle authentically spiced Indian food. That is so wrong! A white person who is actively seeking out Indian food most likely loves Indian food. REAL Indian food. With the spices. Not pointing at the Chimney specifically here, but this message needs to be said to all Indian restaurateurs. Sure if a customers ASKS for tone down, do tone down, but DO NOT tone down just based on skin color. I have even had the experience at some places of explicitly explaining my spice preference and getting bland anyway, and then complaining, and then being told oh Europeans don't like the same as Indians. DUH!

So when you combine the general situation with local Indian restaurants, overpriced and also spice bias based on skin color, no personally I don't eat Indian food here as much as I would like!

One good thing about buffets targeted to Indian tour groups, even if we have to overpay for them, at least with that food the spices are done the Indian way!

Fully agree. When Im ordering a vindaloo and is asked if I want it spicy the whole dining experience always turn out to be bland and boring.

If I want dull indian food I can buy a jar of Uncle Ben`s !!!

  8. That is one high class establishment.

Brilliant place, I have been using it for about 20 years and never had a problem, its a Pattaya institution, the staff make the place, escpecially "Big Mama".

Another farang <deleted> gets the shit beaten out him for being a <deleted>, great stuff, will be in there on Wed night, one of the best places in Pattaya, well done the staff, Thai 1, farang <deleted> 0.

Only been using it for 6 months, but I like the place.Cheap good food and drinks and a non-pushy staff. And "Big Mama" certainly speaks out if a#*Æ-holes and obnoxious <deleted> strolls in..........Grreat place for me thumbsup.gif

  9. - Dicey Reilly's -

Went there for a fried breakfast.

Choose the "Irish Cook Up" at B230.

Here's what I got and my comments:

Pot of tea - enough for 1 1/2 small cups.

Toast x 2 - Thick white bread, not toasted enough, could have took more toasting.

New Zealand Butter and Peach Jam serving.

    Eggs x 2 - ..

Streaky bacon x 3 or 4 - fairly decent quality.

Continental sausage x 2 (frankfurter) - fairly decent quality.

Normal sausage x 1 - small and bland.

    Baked beans - very sweet.

Hash brown x 1 - Out the packet and swimming in fat.

    Fried potatoes - fairly decent.

Black Pudding - did not try.

Not really worth the money, but the Marriott shareholders need paying, I suppose.

Location is on second road nest to Royal garden.

Dicey Reilly`s is probably the worst value for money in Pattaya.

  10. The U.S. government has become dysfunctional mostly due to republican/right wing obstructionism. The elected officials are supposed to reflect the will of the people. The VAST MAJORITY of Americans were for this reform but it lost almost entirely due to the power of a radical right wing fringe group -- the notorious NRA. Obama needs to bring this fight to the PEOPLE. The legislature is USELESS. The only silver lining is that this sets up a major pro Obama shakeup in the next midterm elections.

Strange than that during the last elections the voters didn`t correct this "dysfunctional obstructiomism" ???

  11. Despicable showing a picture like that, hope his family take action against the PDN, however I'm guessing there is probably no restrictions against what a paper can publish in the LOS due to seeing what is posted every day. RIP. Sent from my LT26i using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Yes there are no restrictions on the publishing of pics like this, like in most of the developing world. At least nowadays they are blurred..........didn`t use to be like that before,so I guess thats progress.

  12. While I really do find this tragic, I seriously hate everyone asking for other people to pay for their actions. I'm here in Thailand without insurance and I'm well aware of the fact that I'm at risk as result of that. But if I had an issue, I'd look to borrow from my personal friends whom I would expect to pay back. If I was unable to function, then I'd assume some friend or family member would find a way to borrow money and do the same (though I wouldn't expect that of them). Just never ask random strangers to support you because of the choices you made.

But with that said, I do hope that George makes it back to the USA and learns to communicate (blinking eyes like morse code!).

You`re contradicting yourself with your statement here IMO.You hate it when uninsured people (like you) ask for donations, but you`re assuming that friends and family helps you if you get hospitalized ?

Being uninsured it`s a personal choice, but I do hope that you know how expensive (good)hospitals have become here in Thailand and the staggering cost of an eventual medevac to your home country.
