  1. The missus just got the last 4 cans of beer on the shelf in Tesco's Sukhumvit tonight.

Seems like these Aussie companies can't organise the proverbial then?

The Aussies are used to floods, Brisbane 2010/2011 5 meters of water, Floods have been a common thing in Brisbane for Years.

I hear San Miguel has run out of stock in Pattaya and no more is due for a while.

  2. I had a similar experience in Big C extra in town today(Old Carrfour) basically many normal items were not available and not just foodstuffs so I guess it depends on where the central distribution center is for these companies. Left with my food shopping list untouched and went up the road to foodland !

That's just because they have no idea od stock control and re-ordering.

The Systems used by Big C and Tesco are actually very good, they also both outsource their supply chain to specialists that have vast experience in other countries. For smaller shops its more a matter of cashflow than not knowing about stock control, the only time they have money to buy new stock is when the old stock is sold or by having suppliers on terms.

  3. BigC logistics is carried out by TNT. All four BigC distrubution centres have been closed due to flooding. They are temporarily using other TNT sites and trying to get suppliers to deliver directly to stores. Given the extent of their problems I was surprised how little was missing from the shielves.

Big C use DHL supply chain for most of their product as mentioned here, and they are also having issues.

  4. My local family mart has everything,..

The supply chain is severely hit, trucks cant get around but as far as basic essentials are concerned, we shouldn't worry too much in Pattaya... The local Thai markets will always have everything..

It's just the trucks with TESCO, Family Mart and BIG C written on them are having trouble making their delivery rounds because of the centralised nature of their operations..

Tesco's logistics are done by Linfox which is an Australian company, I would have thought they have it better arranged.

  5. Oy Vey. Do you see a lot of pastures and cattle farms around? You think there are going to be a lot of ranchers moving to thailand to raise cattle just so a few farangs living in Pattaya can have their beef fix. Also, I'm no rancher but I suspect Thailand is not exactly an ideal place to raise cattle.

This is a slight diversion from the topic, but you asked and deserve an answer. Cattle are being raised all over Thailand, but they are originally from India and are mainly Brahman. These cattle are well adapted to the local environment, but the beef they produce is odd to many of us, especially those from Canada, USA or Australia. So, in Isan an experiment is taking place to grow a mixed breed. I have seen both Charolette (sp?), Hereford and Black Angus in Thailand. I think they are cross-breeding them with the local Brahmans, looking to the future market that might evolve. If Thailand could produce some quality beef, they could not only provide the needs of farangs and upscale Thais, they could also possibly export it to Japan and Korea. Time will tell. Right now the Thai beef is crap and I am not sure about the so-called Thai-French beef. Back to the topic: I do like Burger King and they are flying their beef in each day from the West.

The thai french beef is very good, http://www.kubeef.com, the shop just down from Foodland has it.

  6. I just went to get a couple of things at Tops, a lot of signs on shelves saying product not available due to floods, same thing at the lotus opposite, the one that surprised me was no bottled water left in packs, only what was in the fridge.

I wonder how long before they can re-stock.

  7. Take an antihistamine. 2 types, one can make you sleepy, the other is 'non-drowsy'. Freely available and cheap.

There two types of anithishamine, one called Peracitin encourages good sleep, failing that Povanil is good sleeping tablet and you may require a prescription for it.

"Cyproheptadine is a useful alternative to benzodiazepine hypnotics in the treatment of insomnia. Cyproheptadine may be superior to benzodiazepines in the treatment of insomnia because cyproheptadine enhances sleep quality and quantity, whereas benzodiazepines tend to decrease sleep quality" from wikipedia

  8. I wouldn't use Dmed Hearing on Sukhumvit, their service was very disappointing, they also work out of Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

Although the product they had was good it was the service that let it down (I can let people know more if they want by PM about Dmeds service but I cannot discuss it here).

The prices of the units depend on the technology, they had one for 300,000baht for both ears and it has multiple channels and only amplifies the frequency that the ear is having issues with, they also have a remote for volume, mp3 connection and bluetooth phone connection, I would think Widex are available from other suppliers than Dmed, so check around as the product itself is excellent.

  9. Tonight at Leo's Blues Bar was a great night for the fundraiser for Jesters, with a special appearance by Len Tuckey(Suzi Quatros ex-husband and guitarist for the band made the night very special.

  10. This cover looks much higher than what i currently have, is it easy to claim with?

As with all insurance companies, you are issued a card with all the companies contact details on for the hospital to deal direct with so claims are not a problem.

Although my policy is the Thaihealth one the 3 times I have used my card at the hospital at admission there were no problems at all, I just had to pay for some of the smaller things that were not covered on checkout.

  11. Can anyone recommend a good insurance broker that sells policies which pay out?

My house insurance is coming up and after reading this thread i am a little concerned.

I have claimed a couple of times on my health insurance which I purchased through Thaivisa/AA - the Thaihealth health policy which I had no issues claiming, also one contents claim under my AXA policy with them after a break in, AXA valued the goods at nothing and AA were able to make them pay out a reasonable amount rather than the pittance AXA were trying to push on me.

  12. I would not recommend him as he replaced the diff housing cover after mine got cracked by a stub axle unscrewing the bolts and smashing it, it came back with the new cover on and both the half shafts were left with the bolts half way unscrewed.

  13. Probably because of the election and they just closed up for the day. If they are closed tonight (5 July), then that would be time for a question.

    TheWalkingMan

Didn't know there was an election on Monday.

Election on Sunday and then x amount of hours after no alcohol can be served. The bars probably felt that it was better to give the people the night off. Not sure how busy that place has been lately, but I cannot imagine that it has been anything near the high season crowds.

    TheWalkingMan

OP was posted Tuesday 00.38 AM,so he was probably talking about monday night.

correct, Monday night about 11pm they were lights out and no one in there, yet the bars upstairs were open.
