  1. Competition from all the newly opened hotels in seemly better locations over the recent past has made it tough to keep Shagwells occupancy levels what they had been especially during the low season. Are they still advertising as they once did? Loss of Darcy has maybe made the place less Aussie friendly? Day shift at the bar needs to be managed. And nearby cheap beer bars have siphoned off customers.

There does appear to be a move to change the name to Wombat Hotel which is what you get if you google "Shagwell Pattaya" - however they still have a Shagwell Mansions website which pops up as well. Seems re-branding is a hard thing to do.

Post by hellyes2oo2 is correct as far as I've heard, except Bob is not sole owner of the hotel and bars, but rather has at least one partner.

Mixed reports on Lovejoy's success here and elsewhere. Number 3 in the works for Soi 6?

One of the other partners in Shagwell is Surat Mekawarakul.

  2. Try this then

Heading out from the city on 1001 turn right into 121, head to Laguna home, you will see this sign on the right.

    1.jpg

Then turn right into Laguna Home at the fountain.

    2.jpg

Go trough the guard post, don't forget to wave at the friendly guards.

    3.jpg

Then take the first left towards Laguna Phase 5.

    4.jpg

Follow the road around past the new development at Laguna to the Guard house at the far end.

    5.jpg

Diagonally opposite is the entrance to Ban Phimuk, across and enter Ban Phimuk.

    6.jpg

    Entrance to Ban Phimuk.

    7.jpg

Follow the road around to the right, then left until you come to soi 16 and turn right into soi 16

    8.jpg

Follow the soi to the end and the last building on the left is Sausgaeking with the sign out the front.

  3. Loi Kathoy once used to be a romantic festival, long time ago.

    Now it is:

extreme traffic congestion due to complete lack of traffic management

drunk crowds along the riversides playing with loud firecrackers

pollution of the rivers with plastic parts of the floats

Loi Kathoy and Songkran I both hate them and avoid them like a sidewalkwhore with scabies. It's nothing but a hype for locals.

Thats commercialisation for you, kind of like what Valentines day has turned to in the western world.

There are some nice places to visit for Loy Krathong around Chiang Mai I have heard, but as mentioned above the city traffic gets pretty jammed up.

  4. They just played for two days at Guitarman.....

    Very boring group/music.

Strange all my friends who went to see them play at Guitarman said they were really good. But music is like wine, we dont all like the same luckily.

  5. The Buffet at G & M Sausage is very good, well priced too, just 179 Baht, better get there early as there was a queue there were few seats left last time I went.

    Location please.

Located here is the only way i can describe it, opposite a temple in Mae Hoi Ngoen, I forget the name of the Temple, I am sure someone else here on the forum knows.

  6. Heres some handy hints I found

Put these tips to use for a clean and trouble-free septic system.

Divert Rainwater From the Septic Drainfield

    • A soggy drainfield won't absorb and neutralize liquid waste. Plan landscaping, roof gutters and foundation drains so that excess water is diverted away from the septic drainfield.

Don't Overload the Septic Tank and Drainfield

    • Check faucets and toilets for leaks; make repairs if necessary.
    • Use aerators on faucets and flow reducer nozzles on showers to help lower water consumption.
    • Reduce water levels for small loads of laundry.
    • Wait until the dishwasher is full to run it.
    • Use a displacer to reduce the amount of water needed to flush the toilet. (those small bricks Thais use to build with make great displacers)

Keep Trees Away from the Septic System

    • Discourage root damage by keeping trees at least 100 feet away from the septic system.
    • Trees with very aggressive roots, such as willows, should be even farther away from the system.

The Toilet Isn't a Garbage Disposal

    • Never flush cat litter, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, paper towels, facial tissues, coffee grounds, or cigarette butts and filters. They'll clog your septic tank in less time than you might imagine.

    Use Garbage Disposals Wisely

    • A garbage disposal can double the amount of solids added to a septic tank.
    • Choose a top-line disposal that grinds food into tiny particles that are easier for a system to digest.

    Minimize Heavy Duty Cleaners

    • Overuse of heavy cleaners kills beneficial bacteria in the septic tank, so solids won't break down as well.

Do Not Pour Grease Down the Drain

    • Grease can clog the septic drainfield, making it impossible for soil to absorb liquids. If that happens you'll need a new drainfield.

    Avoid Hazardous Chemicals

    • Varnish, paint thinners, motor oils, gasoline and other similar chemicals can ruin your system and are a hazard to groundwater. Dispose of them properly.

    Protect the System from Damage

    • Do not drive over the drainfield, build a structure on top of it, or cover it with concrete or asphalt.
    • Do plant grass on the drainfield to minimize soil erosion.

    Perform Regular Maintenance

    • Solids must eventually be pumped from the tank. Many experts advise a family of four with a 1,000 gallon septic tank to have the tank pumped after 3-5 years of full time use. Other experts say you can go much longer between pumping operations.
    • Never attempt to open a septic tank yourself. Gases and bacteria in it are dangerous.

  7. now just got to find a yammy shop, wonder if the boys down the road with the race shop would be any good, they have one that goes not like a nouvo, has hole holes all over the body work, noisy exhaust and sounds like it revs to 20,000 rpm, well 10,000 at least.
