  1. 3BB adsl HG531V1 router

I first opened the router when I got installed and changed the SSID and pass using the default admin and last 4 of MAC and then used the validate code worked fine. Wifi set up worked fine. logged out in back in several times using that method.

backed up the config file as is was at that point.

Armed with a config back up I then went and changed the user and pass on the router from default to mine and made another backup config.

I logged out and then back in no problem, all the new stuff worked wrote it down did it again as written and it worked in fact it worked on Sunday I changed nothing that day but was logged in and looked around to get a feel for it, so today I could do some port stuff.

Anyway - today cannot log in - fails on password or user - waited tried again later and have tried using default have all these things recorded same thing - password or user fail not a validate fail.

Some how the password or user name has been changed - maybe remotely and nether of them work anymore?

Anyway has anyone done the hard reset - will it bring back the org log admin and MAC numbers or what can I expect besides maybe not having a working router at all. I can't make use of a config file without access.

Suggestions - No. 1 yes it will be replaced - I was happy with its performance but maybe not so much the security level - till then - I am running and don't know who or what has what kind of access to it - so Maybe I just unplug it after I pick up a new one (safer type) and shelf it in a few days.

    No.2 ___________

Until then - Is there a way to recover a password/user that works? and will I be able to get another one connected.

  2. I can't update but still have the same issue.

They keep turning it back on - I have auto turned off too for this reason - says it is one important update and every time I uncheck it the next time I open update it is on again - it will only reinstall the nag icon which I removed twice before using instruction from online.

On this PC MS already said it is not available due to my old processor (ten year old PC) yet they can't take no and won't stop reloading the nagware.

  3. Somewhere in Thailand - where are you?biggrin.png They have Samsung service centers all over the place in Thailand - big blue white signs - should be able to google up the one near you - they will order it if not in stock.

He posted in the Pattaya forum wink.png

Answer to the OP, check out Amorn (basement of Tukcom) and there is a Samsung service centre in PATTAYA, but I am not sure about the current location, maybe another member can let you know ?

    Thanks

It looks like Tukcom for me.

Ah clicked in from the side bar recent posts - thought I was in another thread.

  4. I still have the 590b p/m (631b with tax) 3BB package - 10mb down.

Perhaps it's time to change.I must say though, that 3BB have been fantastic to deal with, couldn't fault them a dime.

We just got installed 3BB 590baht 18.X/1.8 mbps adsl - when we signed up it was 10/1 mbps at that price but it changed before the wire when in. Speed test and see if your getting 18 in Thailand. I get 18.5 with 21msec ping to Bangkok - most speed test beyond have run about 3mb on average so depending on where and how you test you may have 18 and don't even know it. Downloads with a 4 part manager from outside can make it to 8-9mbps and I have had a linux torrent today that ran 16mbps for the complete 4gb file. If you ask they maybe will just adjust the cap your on if it is not already 18mbps. I know my main update site in Japan will sometimes run 6mbps but it is up and down 3 - 6mbps some of that maybe is the server to and that is an FTP source.

  5. Can't see the problem. On the left have the ladies toilet, on the right have the men's toilet and then in the middle something for the transgenders.

No. That's not how it works in the U.S. It's not Thailand. There is no "third sex" paradigm there. Gender identity is the thing and that trumps the genitals you are born with. So if a male transgender to female identifies as female then that person chooses the most sensible facilities to use for them that is most comfortable for them and the least disruptive for the public. So right now Caitlyn Jenner is fully presenting as a female (but she still has a penis, so what?) so it would be disruptive to use men's facilities, so she doesn't, but the bigot fanatics want to criminalize that sensible choice.

People need a lot of time to make the transition, and people choose for themselves how far to go with it physically, so yes, there are grey areas. It is not practical to build third gender toilets everywhere.

If there are only toilets for men and women there can't be a "gray" area right? No exceptions or IMO, the only democratic solution would be; no separation anymore between male and female toilets. This is what equal rights is about no? As such proposal would be rejected by the majority back to square1 which is no exceptions.

This is why I pointed out when this first started that it is not a gender issue - it is a building code issue - not properly made bathrooms in the first place - and it is being used by both sides just to piss off the rest of us that have a brain and use it. I don't have male and female bathrooms at home - do you? The federal government which loves to make laws and mandates can order all bathrooms protect everyone's use of it by making them function properly and then sue every state and make them rebuild them all - this will also solve the problem of the long lines at the women bathroom during events and ensure everyone has a long and expensive line to stand in. Call it promoting the general welfare..

  6. I was under the impression they burn the forest to promote the growth of fungi during the rain season along with the young wet new growth that comes up from the ash - could be different here depending on type I guess.

From the look of the pictures a few Canadians might feel right at home.

I've never heard of a politician disliked so intensely by all but the most foolish people

I really think it is the end of the GOP. American politics will now become multiparty I predict. Who knows, after HRC you might have a coalition!

  8. Well now, the usual hysteria.

"I've seen them demand 50 percent of the new value."

    Sure you have.

"I've seen them execute a man trying to bring a computer into Thailand."

    Uh huh

    From Pitney Bowes

    http://www.dutycalculator.com/country-guides/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-Thailand/

Import duty & taxes when importing into Thailand

    Overview

Import duty and taxes are due when importing goods into Thailand whether by a private individual or a commercial entity. The valuation method is CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight), which means that the import duty and taxes payable are calculated on the complete shipping value, which includes the cost of the imported goods, the cost of freight, and the cost of insurance. In addition to duty, imports are subject to sales tax (VAT), and in some cases to excise, interior tax and a surcharge.

    Duty Rates

Duty rates in Thailand vary from 0% to 80%, with an average duty rate of 20.93%. Some products can be imported free of duty, e.g. laptops and other electronic products.

    Sales Tax

Goods imported into Thailand are subject to VAT at a rate of 7% calculated over the CIF value plus any applicable duty.

    Minimum thresholds

Imports with a CIF value up to 1000 THB are exempt from duty and VAT.

    Other taxes and customs fees

Alcohol and tobacco products are subject to excise duty which could be ad valorem or specific. Goods subject to excise are levied an additional Interior tax calculated at 10% of excise.

Additionally, Thailand imposes certain product-specific surcharges on some foodstuffs that take the form of ad valorem or specific duties.

    Local Customs office and contacts

More information on import declaration procedures and import restrictions can be found at the Thai Customs website.

But let's not look at the Thai Custom's Website, no, don't do that!

    http://www.customs.go.th/wps/wcm/connect/custen/individuals/importing+used+or+secondhand+household+effects+/importingusedsecondhandhouseholdeffects+

    REQUIREMENTS FOR DUTY FREE ALLOWANCE

Both Thai and non-Thai residents changing residence into Thailand are eligible to bring used/secondhand household effects into Thailand, in reasonable quantities, free of taxes and duties. It is also required that the imported used/ secondhand household effects have been owned, possessed, and used in the country where the importers resided before returning to Thailand to resume residence.

In case where the household effects are electrical appliances e.g. radios, televisions, refrigerators, microwaves, ovens, air conditioners, etc., only ONE unit each of such items is eligible for tax and duty free allowance. However, if it is the family change of residence, TWO units each of the items will be allowed to bring in tax and duty free. Any excess unit shall be subject to regular taxes and duties, and Customs will place the items that have the lowest rate of duty under tax and duty exemption.

It is important that the used/secondhand household effects must be imported not earlier than one month before or not later than six months after the arrival of the importers. Under exceptional circumstances, Customs may extend the time limits for the importers.

Those rules apply to household effects shipped and not excess baggage and a tourist visa at the airport like the op is going to do - try and get my old Compaq pc back - the two police standing with the agent at 1am made it clear I was giving up $400US or leaving it. It was not worth $400US and I was not going to make a federal case out of an old used PC beyond twice stating my case. Reading and real life are two different things in Thailand - baggage was not an issue at that time, but today many would have to pay extra for that as well and these days that might cost more then they are worth already.

"I've seen them " yes and I heard them clearly as well. It also happened to another person later - I am not giving up the name your going to have to accept it is not hysteria. I am just telling you what really happens at the airport to many people including myself but preferred to state it as an example. This happens to people at entry. I also noted that some may get by and some didn't and he might not - the info from the web site is fine if your using an importer for household goods like I did with most of my stuff via Rama out of Oakland to Bangkok. Not an issue there - if it had been the bill would have been thousands.

"sure you have" yes! I have. they never ask about laptops and other personal devices, but a box with a desktop and other gear is a bad idea unless your willing to ether pay or dump which ever turns out the best. Finding that out at the airport is not good. If the OP wants to carry a copy of the web site maybe he can lawyer his way past or maybe they won't even stop him or maybe they will be in face saving mode and not back down from a request - One thing is sure, they will have it their way and win if they want to - Do you feel lucky.

I am not posting hysteria nor am I posting the rule of law backed by a whole 136 post count and a google search ether. Not wise to simply declare it is not a problem because a web site will protect you - nothing protects you in Thailand at customs in the airport but cash or the willingness to leave the goods on the counter. Your mileage may vary.

I have also seem them allow a guy to bring in an rifle .177 cal pump, he just kept saying it is a toy and a gift - well in fact it is a gun. Now tell me 'sure you have' because I most likely spend the whole day making shit up for no reason. I simply have nothing better to do.

  9. News flash: 1933 Thailand is in a period of transition

2016 Thailand is in a period of transition - nothing has changed.

Lets add a few new names to the excuses reason and repeat the same o same o - see you again in 2022

I changed my mind - I after reading the document I am filled with expectation and profound understanding. whistling.gif

  10. You will be stopped at customs and required to pay 50% of the cost of the PC when new - does not matter how old it is - seen it happen. Anyone with excess baggage is suspect, but if it is in boxes you will be inspected 100% sure thing. If anyone has gotten by this they are the few. If you had it in bags and they didn't inspect it - lucky you, because in fact they don't care how old it is - only that you pay before you can leave the airport or turn it over to them. They won't care if you want to stand there all night they get paid the same daily rate. I am a witness to this happening several times in the past - this is not guessing at all.

You can take a chance, but carry the drives in carry on that way if they want to much tax you just give them the PC - used PC's are available and cheaper then the tax - just plug your drives in and go with that - you can get here used PC's for 2,000 to 5,000 baht. You can carry a laptop and no ones seems to ever care, but desktops if seen are going to get taken or taxed - you can bank on it.

  11. The snake was thinking the same thing - obviously if you mess with them of accidentally get involved there can be problems but if you don't mess with them and properly check before lefting odd things in the yard then your trip getting to Thailand will be more dangerous then they are. The trip will be twice as dangerous if you ride a bus.

  12. A dtac promotion will get you 150min talk and 3gig of 3g/4g a month @ 399baht prepaid plus 20 fee each month - something like that. Has a number of sms too but don't recall how many I think it is 30 a month - if you just preload the account with the money it will reload each month on time. Wife has been using it for a few months and she is happy with it - we do have great dtac coverage in our area. It does slow to 128k if you use up the 3g but you can enter a code and from the preloaded funds you have on account buy another 1gig at a time @150baht each and still at the end of the month if enough money is still left it will reload the promotion automatically. You can add money at any time to the account for use later or to be sure enough is there at the end of the month - no need to run in at the last minute. If you use up the talk time it will charge your account funds by the min but there is a way to top that up too. Never had to reach those limits yet, but she is working on it.biggrin.png fact is with line app she uses so much less talk time then before. She found she can send me voice clips so now she does not even have to type - of course she has to send a sticker with them - its a thai thingrolleyes.gif . For higher cost they have bigger packages too. I am not big on phone use so I use a 100min 500mb account @ 199 a month it is older non promotion account.

  13. The only thing with 3g is that data goes quick. It is not unlimited by any means.

With my laptop (with wifi), I also use connectify and use my laptop as a hotspot, totally encrypted between my phones and the laptop.

He has no cable and I found many aircards won't share to the wifi connection of the laptop only the eth port or at leaast I had that problem with mine.

Yes before I had a router I used an old laptop with aircard and shared the eth port to a switch that gave me 4 ports for the desktop etc. but then no wifi in the home.

Just having a portable device type router or another phone to hotspot works too but limited often by number of devices that can connect, but the real router has more wifi range and better control panel for port forwarding and all the normal stuff you like to have in a home LAN. It is a pain to spend half of each month at 385k internet, but you adjust to it. torrents etc are not even on the table.

If you don't have a cable internet your not getting around the use of 3g at home - you can check into airnet type systems with ToT or maybe AIS which they never had around my place - it sets up an internet connection via a tower but is full time internet not really a typical 3g connection - don't use Ipstar sat - it is slow expense and before we had cell towers I used it - painful painful painful.

The Winet option would be the best solution. We have gone to TOT That Tum (Surin province) many times. They won't help us. They want a number of people to sign up in our village before they would decide to move. I had their lousy Ipstar for 2 years 3 or four times the price of a decent cable Internet connection. Mostly we had less than 1 MB.

Sad to say that I trade on the SET every trading day ... via 3G.

You had 1m with IpStar? - that would have been nice I could not even apply for that - I paid 2600 for 512k and got 128k at best between 8am and 10pm and 256k late nite - when I had cheaper 256k everything was twice as bad as 512k. I could never send an email over 25k in size and it had to be pure text or the smtp server would fault even using gmail online for some reason, but could receive them.

When dtac put in 2g I had a good 256k 24/7 at half the price. When they upgraded to 3g it was like going to heaven to have 385k when the 3g runs out. Now we have 3bb or have paid first month and the cable is on the pole outside the house on the road - hope to be cooking with 10m @ 590 a month by end of next week or at least before May - only took 18 years to get here - but it is here.thumbsup.gif

Go find your 3bb people and see if they have plans for your area coming up - ask them to put up signs and start a list of callers. I gave lists of people to ToT year on year and it never made a difference - was never enough.

Good luck - hope it gets better I know what it is like. wai.gif

  15. Most of the hand outs I have seen in the stores provide cal. using total cube of room not just floor which is an avg rule. It does matter - the air moves in a room when the A/C is on air and the air that rises moves too.

    http://www.calculator.net/btu-calculator.html

you can guess at your condition of insulation - mine is good as we put bats of 4in in the over head installed proper etc. and we have 3m walls which add a lot of space to a room.

Use what you think the avg room temp would be without A/C as that is the differential your working to over come. Thailand hot hot hot.

  16. It is something like that (design flaw) - every time the pump kicks off because the storage is above it rather then a draw from below which the pumps are primarily designed for - some tiny amount of air is lost or something. Many expansion tanks have a rubber tube inside for the air so that won't happen but cheaper pumps are just a steal tank.

  17. If you want to use your phone and connect to wifi (i.e. router) rather then make your phone the wifi - then you need a router or another phone - I have a dlink-112 router and use a 3g aircard sim which provides wifi and lan ports in the house. about 1600 baht plus you need another 3g package and sim. You still pay for 3g coming or going only diff is an aircard tab sim is often cheaper 3g more 3g and 385k when 3g is used up. Been doing this for years. there are other routers that work also just make sure it is a 3g usb port the dlink will connect automatically without set up it reads the sim card rom and connects when plugged in.

  18. If you can afford a small piece of land and you only want a simple house - you can purchase the material and build it. I know of one person that built a small house years ago on some cheap but good land and used a Credit card to buy the material. Ended up with about a 220 dollar a month min payment on the card, but because he had cash flow he paid it off in two years saving a lot of the interest he would have paid over a 20 year on a mortgage. Higher interest yes, but short term if you make the extra payments and no bank involvement etc. Oh and he earned air miles with ever purchase he would joke.

It is a roll of the dice and depends on what your relationship is but anything is possible. If your handy you can build more for the same money. After that he has saved rent money month on month for over ten years now. If you do the math it worked for him.

  19. They have a check valve built in - a cap can be removed and you will see a plastic plunger with spring - if your not seeing a hearing water going back into the tank then not a problem - turn off the power close all the valves and remove plug in side of red tank and drain completely - it will go glup glup glup as air enters to replace water after it is drained replace the plug open valves and restart the pump - it will rebuild the air head in the top of the expansion tank.
