  1. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find a direct answer when I searched the forums. Basically my circumstances are, I've been living here about 3 years. I have had a steady job as a teacher at the same school for a bout 2 years (which I have all the credentials for and a work permit, etc..) .

Just wandering if it is at all possible to borrow money or get some form of mortgage from the bank? I have seen a condo I am interested in buying (I'm told that a farang can own a condo outright). And I have worked out I can pay for it outright within 4-5 years, but would need to borrow the capital to begin with. Is this possible??

Unless the situation has changed from when I bought my property many years ago, a foreigner cannot buy property in Thailand with money earned in Thailand. He has to show that the money has come from abroad.

  2. I can't understand why people hire a taxi from the airport to Pattaya when you can use the reliable Mr. T Taxi Service.

He uses new cars, has very polite drivers, (a couple of very pretty female drivers too) is waiting at the airport with your name written on a sign and only charges 1,000 baht, including tolls. You are driven directly to your destination and you are not asked for a tip.

    Mr T email: [email protected]

    Phone: 66-38-720 318

If going from Pattaya to the airport, his fees are 900 baht including tolls.

This sounds good. :o Can you tell me where the office is please.

    Thanks

  3. "Answer: Bangkok Pattaya Hospital"

I agree. I've received the best care ever at BKK Hospital in Pattaya. They have an expert who specializes in implants. The cost is 75,000. Bt/implant.

Thanks for that Lance_A_Lot. I know this hospital is very good, but so expensive :o and implants being so common now I'm sure I can get a good job done elsewhere :D for a lot less money.

  4. I'd go to the German Dental Clinic at Soi-9 on Thappraya Rd. 038-251289, mobile 081-8615181

They can do implants (they've done 2 for me) and they have the _best_ dental lab

in Pattaya, bar none, and use only top-quality materials imported from Germany.

Many of the area Thai dentists use their lab when quality work is demanded by the client.

The dentists are Thai women...who have also been trained to European standards.

I've been going there for nearly 5-years due to the quality of their work.

They are the _only_ dental clinic I've ever encountered...either here or back in farangland

that _guarantees_ their work!! Should you have a future problem for whatever reason, they will

take care of it for free!!

Thanks, Lukdod - This one also sounds good.

    Cheers

  5. i have not had implants with Katy but i have had a number of fillings and 2 root canals on two entirely seperate occasions over a year apart. each root canal took many hours and about six visits, each completed over around 2 months. i canvassed many dentists in Pattaya prior to the first root canal after Bangkok pattaya hospital wanted 20K. the cheapest i found was about 17k the others were all around 18k. i felt there was a cartel price structure going on in Pattaya so i went and asked around Siracha and found Katy and was quoted as a walk in at 9500 for the same job. i had it and did not regret it for a moment, she was wonderful. i had my second completed a month ago and its was 10,000. she is still a fantastic dentist, who now does all my familys work(including my 75 year old Mother) and is NOT the same one (katia)as mentioned by another contributor. she only works at Dental Corner in Siracha. i hope that helps

Thanks for this info Timekeeper. Katy sounds a good possibility.

    Cheers

  6. 14 years ago I was married to my lovely Thai wife at Kings Cross registery office in London. My bride to be and I were in a bit of a rush to marry as her visa was short but never the less everything was in order. The problem arose about 10 mins before we were to sign the certificates when the "best man"(unreliable Eddie) crashed through the doors shouting "sorry everyone the line was down at tottenham" He then informed me that he didn't know where the 2 Thai witnesses that we needed to translate the ceremony were .I looked into everyones eyes at that moment(a moment I will never forget)and just thought what the hel_l am I going to say to my girlfriend! All the guests got together and started discussing solutions but then Eddie said to the wedding party before us who had just finished marrying"your not Thai by any chance?"..........the rest as they say is history. :bah::o:D:D:D:D

Is this supposed to be a joke? If it is, I don't get it!

  7. 48 hours... Let's see... first, I would like to have one last big fight with the pretend manager of the Big C on Sukumvit... Then, i would like to try to return something at Carrefour, and see how difficult they make it, and then I would have one last big fight over there.

If I had any time left, I would get into an argument with the ticket taker at the Major Cineplex movies at "The Avenue", and of course the last thing would be to get into a dispute with a motorcycle taxi guy, over a price agreed to in advance, and/or a baht bus driver, who doesn't like when I give him only 5 baht for a short ride (still more than what he gets out of Thais for the same ride).

And naturally, I would save the last few minutes for some reflection about how I'm always right about everything, and how everyone else is always wrong, and they have no ability to admit they could ever be wrong about anything.

And in the very last minute, it would have to be with a motorcycle taxi driver, and I would be paying him the 40 baht agreed, plus I would offer a 10 baht tip, for a total of 50 baht... I would then hand him a 100 baht note, and he would then exclaim, "sorry, no change..." then I would say, "you're in luck, cause i happen to have two twenties, so you don't get a tip..." That's how i would like to go out.

Weho, you are a star! I'm so glad you're back :o

  8. Cats fan now knows left from right

    Jane Holroyd | November 13, 2007 - 2:47PM

A die-hard Geelong fan is regretting his decision to get a tattoo celebrating the team's premiership victory while on holiday in Thailand last week.

"Neville" told 3AW he paid about $150 for two tattoos on his upper arms while in Phuket last Thursday.

But his loyal attempt to honour his team backfired when instead of the words "Day Premiers 2007", the tattoo artist instead christened Neville's beloved Cats the "Gay Premiers 2007".

"I couldn't believe it," Neville told 3AW this morning, adding he had consumed 15 cans of beer during the five-hour tattooing process.

To make matters worse, Neville's attempts to communicate his wishes clearly to the tattoo artist were taken a little too literally.

Neville had drawn pictures of the tattoos he wanted on each arm with the instructions, "Right Arm" and "Left Arm" to make the delineation clear.

Now, along with the "Gay Premiers" tattoo on his right arm, he has a permanent reminder - should he ever forget - that it is in fact, his right arm.

On his left arm, along with a fierce looking Cat logo and the words "Night Premiers 2006", Neville now has the words, "Left Arm".

"My son-in-law came in . . . and said, 'You know they've written 'Right Arm?'"

    "I said, 'You're joking!"

"I said, 'Well now he's done that he might as well do the left arm as well."

Neville said there was some light at the end of the tunnel, with the tattoo of such poor quality it appeared to already be peeling and was almost indecipherable.

3AW's morning hosts Ross Stevenson and John Burns said they would attempt to get Neville a 2008 Geelong membership for his troubles.

  9. I have it on good authority that correct pronounciation is PAT THAI YA - the emphasis being as with all (?) Thai words on the last syllable.

I think it is more like PAT-TA-YAA. Agree emphasis on last syllable.

That's how it sounds to me.

  10. the best dentist i have ever known anywhere in the world is Katy at Dental corner in Siracha, very close to the shopping centre. its half the price of pattaya and she is fantastic. i swear to you i fall asleep whilst she is working.

Did you have dental implants by Katy - if not, do you know anyone who has?

Even before choosing an adequate school, the one thing that terrifies me most as well is sending a child into that crazy traffic five days a week to get to that school with someone other than me driving, and even then, I encounter kamikaze drivers every minute... :o I don't think I' ll ever be able to cope with this kind of driver behavior, after four years, I still can't. Living within walking distance could be a solution, still...

Then there will be the task of finding out if a chosen school is mainly run as a business or real place of learning.

For now, the only viable option we see as future parents is to move back to my country where road safety exists, laws are enforced, school buses are clearly identified and have priority and schools are closely and strictly monitored.

I no longer care about living here when it comes to child safety and proper education.

This is the most sensible thing anyone has said on this topic. Your children deserve to live in safety, and have a good education with opportunities at the end of it.

I would never let my children be educated in Thailand.

  13. For WESTERNER.

You are so up to date with the new rules and regs that you stated in your first post that any teacher that does a 90 day border run is obviously illegal. You are proved wrong.

No you are not qualified to talk about the present rules and regulations. In your own words.............you have been away for a year or so.

30 years experience? That makes you at least 50 years old. You are obviously in high demand in Thailand. :D

Do i think you are stupid? Well................yes. I refer you to your first post. Illegal teachers etcd.

So..............you are so against illegal teachers that you have never placed any in schools . Mmmmmmmmmm Me thinks........MOR*N

Your time is finished old man.........move on.

PS........ You are up to date with the new rules and regs?

Ok.............what does a Fillipino teacher have to show to the MoE regarding transcripts?

I,m waiting Mr Know it Nothing.

WHY HAVE YOU ADDRESSED THIS TO ME? :o
