i can relate to this story..was an egg farmer for 15yrs in nz..

after investing huge money to buy the farm--the govt then deregulated the undustry in 1987, as producers increased production, egg prices dropped, until we were selling for under cost of production.

this went on for many yrs-smaller producers went broke..

supermkts squeezed the producers even more..

it was a very stressful part of my life.

just one more reason why i am making the very most of happy /stressfree life in thailand...

Good example Murray.  Same thing going on now with Aussie dairy farmers .... supermarkets are just squeezing the margins so tight now that they are not making anything and the little guys are going bust. This is happening in many industries,  as you mentioned ... a stressfull time working daylight till dusk for very little or going backwards.

KL is better, better english spoken, better manners, better food, cheaper, safer roads, better air...

KL is fine .....  I wouldn't say better, as it depends on what you base your assessment on.

KL does have good food ....  Thai has good food also ....  but I wouldn't go to KL for the beer or sex. Just saying ... everywhere and everyone has different tastes.

Obviously anyone here since that time will have ploughed many millions of baht into the local economy, supporting local businesses and possibly a Thai family.

Add to this the increasing likelihood that a long term retiree will have gone native and be living in a much cheaper part of the country, and may have sunk money into buying a home, furnishings, car etc, thus eliminating rental and most transport costs. With these overheads already paid for, Thailand would be as cheap a place for them to live as anywhere they could find in the world.

    Absolutely correct.

They should have known better. Nothing is free not even -no cover charge- as it fronts for what comes next.

Why didn't they ask for a menu.?

I had lunch on the beach with some Thais in Rayong ,atleast we had a table and bench.

Only reason I agreed to eating on the beach was because I wasn't paying. Lol

Bill  for 3 or so basic rice dishes,  a fish plate and a couple of Singhas630 ml bottles 2000 b thereabouts.

    Waste of money.

keneow !  I would say there are many cheap charlies who stay in Thailand.

  6. yes ... cheap charlies has gone, Sarah went also, Check inn was long gone ... pool bars, Absolute bar, I've seen them all come and go ... from Queen park plaza to soi nana to On Nut and most.

I've seen farang stagger and fall over the stool while leaving ... I've seen the drunks throwing up in the street ...   it's all gone ... only the memories live on.
