It's not at all difficult as others have mentioned above if the mother is willing to hand over sole custody of the child to you. And if that's the case then it shouldn't take too long nor be too costly. 6 to 8 weeks max and a lawyer with a translator c 15,000 baht. For me it was a short hearing in the juvenile court then the agreement was drawn up and at the second hearing the agreement was signed and stamped. Then the only possible problem is taking the child out of Thailand. I would advise that the mother is there in case there is a problem at immigration. Some will say there shouldn't be a problem but there can be. If the mother is not agreeable to give you sole custody then youve got major problems. I would flag also that I encountered a problem renewing my son's non Thai passport. The difference in having sole custody or being guardian. I would advise in any Thai court document to mention both. My passport office wanted a statement stating I was the childs legal guardian and the Thai court said I had sole custody. I should add we were not married the mother and I.

I have never had any problems doing a new UK and Thai passport for my child by just showing a copy of the court order, even dealing with the immigration and when changing his school they always accepted the court order I have never been asked for anything from his mother

  2.        I might be able to answer some of your questions

A     I never had to go through another legalisation procedure but I had to have another      interview with Children's Welfare you might of miss understood this

B     After legalisation I was told I have shared custody (I was never sure how true this is) but as far as having rights to see my child if mother did not want it is more difficult because it seems that police will not want to get involved

C       If what I was told about legalisation is true you do not need to get involved with that unless you want 100% custody over your child. It took me 3 months to get 100% custody over my child the cost depends on whether the mother agrees to it

D      Already answer in answer B

    E      No

I cannot say how true what I have been told is but I dealt with 2 different lawyers who both said the same thing

  3. Going to do my extension this Friday so I went into my Kbank branch this afternoon hoping to get one for Friday, I was told I can get a 13 month of statements today if I need them but she was not sure if Immigration would accept them 5 days early, so I will take a chance and go Friday and get the bank letter, update book and hopefully get the statements

I have till March 3 to do my extension

Because the bank book might of not been updated regularly and the only thing shown on is the balance when it was updated. There could be transactions missing that caused the balance to under the 400/800k baht requirement.

But with a Fixed Term Account you can only withdraw money with the bank book so this should show how much is in the account at all times

Interesting. I was there at 8:30 for 90 day reporting and room 10 for TM 30s was mobbed.

They have previously told me not to report if it’s just an out of province trip. Keen to find out.

The TM 30 is not for us to report after a visit outside the province it is a TM 28 to report that, the TM 30 is for the hotel to report you staying there

    Response to singasong:

Yes she gets coverage for 5MB, so it's not completely useless.

But a young person rarely will be ill, so the premiums are too high relative to the covered risk.

That's bad value for money,  Sheryl already explained the reasons.

My "useless" refers to another point:

You really need insurance for a catastrophic event that can destroy you economically, socially and can kill you (meaning you can die from it), and that you and your family cannot shoulder under any circumstances.  (Even 5MB many Thai families can shoulder.) Events like expensive chronic diseases like SLE or diabetes,  AIDS or cancer. Are these things covered (many Thai insurances don't cover cancer which is one of the most common diseases) ? Can the insurance kick you out if you have a disease like this  (manny Thai insurances can)?

These events happen mostly when you get old.  A typical Thai insurance gets your premiums as long as you are young and more or less healthy (you don't cost them much). Once you are old (often at the age of 70) coverage ends. Good business for the insurance because almost all of the medical cost that you cause in a lifetime, are incurred in the last couple of years of your life. Not good business for you, because when you are old you can hardly get a new insurance anymore (too many preexisting conditions,  too).

So the most important question is: will the insurance last all your life (most Thai insurances don't)? Or can they kick you out when you are not profitable any more?

And related to this: what will the coverage be in 20, 30, 40 years? 5MB in 20 years in health care is maybe the same as 500000 now, not much. But the coverage of most Thai insurances is fixed,  will not go up.

My son is 10 years old his insurance cover cost me under 17000 baht for 5 million Baht cover which I think is not a lot of money for peace of mind and that I can use any hospital that I want

His first claim was for a 55000 baht when he swallowed a battery when he was young in total he has had claims of about 90000 baht in his life which I guess is less than I paid the insurance but he is a fit boy

I always wonder if insurance is worth the money but then I think what if anything big goes wrong so I pay it

Bangkok-Pattaya Hosp used to allow just having the PSA blood test, so it was about an hour wait and about B1,000.

Now they insist I see I see a doctor before and after the test - doubling or more the time and cost.

I stick with them though, as I've heard it's best to use the same facilities for regular testing: as different places may have differently calibrated machines - but that may just be an old wives' tale.

I had a test done in 2 different hospitals on the same morning and got different results one was nearly 2 times as high as the other result but was on very low readings

Is this a Thai or foreigner?

    If foreigner:

There is 1 psychiatrist at Bangkok Hua Hin Hospital but the website shows no hours for him, don't know what that means but she could call and ask

    https://bangkokhospitalhuahin.com/en/doctor/weeradech-wannasilp

Otherwise I suggest coming up to Thonburi and seeing psychiatrist at Siriraj

Bring old prescription with her and explain to doctor she would like to switch to generic valosine. Works the same but she'll need guidance on dosage

    If Thai:

Get referral slip from hospital where she is registered under 30 baht scheme to Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry

    which is also in Thonburi.

She would also be well advised to get counselling, meds alone are not the best way to treat depression or anxiety.

Thank you for your help she got some from BKK hospital Hua Hin but they are still expensive

  9. This is not for me but a friend she tells me that she is very addicted to Prostiq and is afraid of changing meds but Prostiq is very expensive here and can only be got with a proscription.

Would you know a doctor in or near Hua Hin that it would be best to see before changing meds

I also recommend that method. When my BP was diagnosed as prehypertensive, I bought a BP monitor and check myself regularly. I have a BP profile now covering a two year period, a total of almost 400 readings. Anyway, I noticed that my BP reading was always higher than I wanted or it should have been so I started the habit of taking three readings at a time: one minute apart. Generally I find reading one is high, reading two is lower and reading three the lowest: of course, there are exceptions. I keep all readings in a spreadsheet and share the data with my doctor every time I see him.

I don't take my readings at the same time every day because I do like to see the variation over a 24 hour period. I have so many readings at most times, though, to give me good insight into the trend of my BP.

I have followed a vegetarian diet for three decades, tending to vegan more and more these days. I exercise regularly and keep the stress low! As with others of you, I have always been active. In my 40s I was told that I had the BP of an astronaut (!) so it came as a shock to find age does things to us like worsening BP.

I found my pressure to be high on the first reading so now I give 10 minutes of relaxing with the cuff already on before I take the first reading and now I find the readings are more equal

They do DaVinci prostate surgery at Siriraj.

Reversal of colostomy is a very, very simple surgery and no reason not to do it. Why live with a colostomy when you don't have to?

They started to do prostate Davince at Siriraj about 11 years ago I got a estimate from there about then and I would have been the first one done there so I did not have it done there

I had open surgery at Bumlarad (spelling) which was about 25% cheap at that time

    @BritTim

do you think it would be ok today or the next few days? i can show them my house book, birth certificate, id cards, lots of goodies justifying my situation, its one thing to be a packer, its a whole other to have had a house here for 10+ years.

and if donmuang is considered strict, where would you advise? i could book a flight to phuket easily, maybe chang mai, but would be open to any route that would return me quickly to my family.

    Thank you.

I think you can fly into Hua Hin from KL

    and contradicting thaivisa.com/ubonjoe (sorry!)

aaaaaghhhhh this is crazy, 2 days away and NOBODY knows what the hell is going on

Do you realise that there are 2 ways to extend an OA visa one is to leave the country before the year end and return within the year end of your visa and the other is by getting an extension in Thailand so both could be correct

  14. I think to get sole custody though the court would be difficult for you because it is a 2 stage procedure you have to have an interview with Children's Welfare, then about a month later you will have to go to court so it might take at least a 2 visit to Thailand

The court procedure is not difficult to do if the mother agrees but In all it takes about 3 months to complete

I would suggest to your wife that it would cost you money for a lawyer and if she would have a divorce you would give her the money that you would save
