Sugar is a poison to humans.

Cause of many diseases.  Sugar feeds cancer.

You dont need to eat any sugar.

However, its addictive, and food manufactures worked this out ages ago.........hence the pumping of everything with loads of sugar.

Agree absolutely on that. I'd recommend the book 'Salt Sugar Fat' by Michael Moss.

"a breathtaking feat of reporting. Michael Moss was able to get executives of the world's largest food companies to admit that they have only one job—to maximize sales and profits—and to reveal how they deliberately entice customers by stuffing their products with salt, sugar, and fat."

I think the Mrs has gone over Sawang Dan Din way; AT's area.

They do rocket launching over there. It's all ladies. I never saw a guy there when I observed a few years back.

First the customer has to go to see the special person (not sure he is a monk) to tell him your desires. Lottery win, riches, fertility, death to cheating b/f (or g/f) or sick hubs (to put him out of his misery naturally), more (or less) sex, lose weight etc. He writes down some stuff on a bit of paper. Then it's over to the main compound where the paper is attached to the rocket with an elastic band; along with other's bits of paper.  It's only 1000 baht a pop.

And up the firework goes. Clapping and stomping takes place. Ever so lucky way to spend yer money.

Market forces: A pure case of supply and demand. Bullshi!t is in demand, therefore it's supplied.

I'll take that on board Kadilo. Seen two of my farang pals come to sticky ends here. But my wife is different!

Right at the mo' she is out visiting buddha places to get the lottery nos for next time (16th). Not just any old buddhas, but those with special powers.

If she finally gets lucky I could become expendable. But, on the upside, I might get a extravagant sent off. Have to show the villagers how much I was missed.

As opposed to how far the bullet missed by.

Spoke to a monk at the Buddha and he said they had gradually been cut down in the last decade. He spilt the beans on what they do. The trees cannot just be cut. But a dead one can be. The people who want the tree down inject something into the base. The tree gets sick. Leaves fall off, and for a small donation the appropriate authority pronounces it dead; and records it as such. Cutting then gets underway. Being Thailand; this explanation sounds quite reasonable to me. Sad as it is.

That is sad, but as you say, it's basically par for the course.

Business and money are more important than heritage.

The column this week could well be used for the "columnist's" obituary.   I will be first to admit I quickly skimmed over the month by month attempts at humor as my mask was getting phlegmed up.

Now before i am accused of "bashing" let me say that I often am impressed  by  the effort said writer puts in and

his almost perfect use of his native grammar and vocabulary.  As for viewpoints,   well, cmon,  who here at TV really agrees 100% of what is written..... except by ones self, of course.

So ,  like a Chiangmai  somtam  that this week was just a little bit under standard,  not to mention the PLA RAH that

was added which he knows i can't stand...  I will forgive and forget and still let the courier deliver next week's edition.   Thankfully the  27G waves on my new Apple BB  (big brother)  virtual PC  will easily penetrate the barbed wire surrounding my compound to keep out ........ you know what !

And to all.........  don't worry,  be happyyyyyyyyyy

'his almost perfect use of his native grammar and vocabulary'  :cheesy:  I'm sure Rooster will be over the moon at your almost glowing report. A backhanded compliment?

Like any journalist worth his salt, Rooster always prepares well in advance for features like this. It’s like saving time by penning an ageing person’s obituary before the big day arrives

Perhaps we could write our own obituary and submit it in advance too. That's if any of us are considered newsworthy, of course.

My searches just come up with the Ko Phangan tree - claimed as Thailand's tallest.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCluq95VDug

Regarding your wife's comments - it doesn't seem to be a "rubber tree", but does have a resin that can be collected and used in various applications:

Dipterocarpus alatus... also known colloquially as the resin tree ... In Cambodia, the wood is much valued in construction and cabinetwork, when not exploited for its oily resin. Generally, resin is collected for the following uses: wood lacquering, draught-proofing of boats and traditional medicine.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipterocarpus_alatus

I think you're right on that, regarding it not being used in the traditional sense of a rubber tree. (My wife did say it wasn't the type used on rubber farms.)

Even looking up ยางนา (yang na) from the wiki entry, google still translates it as rubber, (same as ยาง).

I looked in my larger Thai>Engrish dictionary but couldn't find ยางนา.
