The amount of traffic is certainly increased. You used to be able to drive in opposite directions on both sides of the moat as there weren't that many vehicles and you could rent and drive your own tuk-tuk from the Overlander Bar where Mad Dogs is now.

Thai Watsuda (Think that's how it's spelled) on the Superhighway has the largest selection I've seen. I just bought a few different kinds to try out. I threw away the boxes they came in, but the company that makes them is in Bangkok and they have a website listed on the box if you want to see all their products.

Who makes up these headlines? So funny.

Hi, does anyone know where I can buy old or new burlap rice bags around Chiang Mai? I need the burlap for a building project, but the fabric stores in Warorote Market charge a lot for it, I am more near the Sanpatong area.
Thanks

I just got back from vacation there 6 days ago. Only stayed a week, but Deneng and Hoi An were laid back and fun and the tunnels at Chu Chi were interesting. We stayed a few days in Saigon which were awful. 10 million people living there and I'm sure others will back me up on this, that the constant horn honking gets annoying real fast. No one walks on the sidewalks as there really aren't any. Vietnamese food is no where close to Thai food in taste. Very bland, with lots of onions in almost every dish. My Thai wife hasn't eaten anything with onions since. The people were pleasant enough though, but the wife was going crazy with everyone wondering why she wouldn't talk back to them when they yammering on in Vietnamese to her. We will be back though as you really can't see an entire country in a week. Loved the beach's. Very clean. Also, visit the Crazy House in Dalat. Check it out on the internet. Very interesting.

I'm interested. But what is CCCC?

You must have toilets. Have whoever comes n late every day clean them. Big loss of face.

I will be leaving for Chiang Mai on the 15th. If you can get it to me by then, I can just mix it in with the rest of my various items I bring back with me. Only thing is, my wife will be coming down to Bangkok to meet me and then we will spend a week in Vietnam before going back up to Chiang Mai on the 24th. I usually bring back hard to get food for Thaivisa members. P.M. if you are interested. I live along the Canal Road and also have a business in the city center.

Thank you O.P. and repliers for lifting my spirits up from a rather difficult day. It's always a treat when someone starts a discussion thats funny, instead of the same stuff we see here every day. By the way, Isan food does it for me and the wife. we laugh for hours later at night.

They have them in Chiang Mai. They had a few on display at Thapae Gate a while ago. I've had one for 6 years now. Love it.

Let me know if you find a source please. As I said before. I held up the sealers and asked them if they had bags or rolls for them. Nope.
-
I tried both makros. Neither had them. The employees at both said the other carried them and to gothere. They have the vacuum sealers, but no bags. As far as they know, they never carried them. I asked why they sell sealers and no bags and not one employee or manager had an answer.Just shrugs.I tried both YOK outlets and they claimed to be out of them because they had no idea what me or the wife were talking about, even after showing them their sealers. I just buy them on Ebay in bulk.

A new computer repair place just opened next to my wife's shop on the Canal Road about 2.5k South of the Samoeng Road and Canal Road intersection in a newly finished building. Air conditioned, nice kid that does the repairs. His mother who is usually there speaks English and if she's not there, my wife speaks excellent English. And she's usually hanging out in there because of the air con. alt=biggrin.png> If you want, I'll find out the address and Landmarks and P.M. you.
OP wants a place in Hang Dong. Didn't read huh ?
It's you with the reading problem. The place described is in the hang dong area, and on the road down towards sanpatong.
What a contribution to the thread! Sarcastic and wrong.
You obviously did not read Circusman's avatar alt=laugh.png> We use a Thai guy KO .Has limited English but knows his stuff.08 347 49011.
3 times has charged us 200 baht per visit.Best if someone can speak to him in Thai for directions etc.We live in the Hang Dong area.Don't believe he has a shop.
Circusman obviously doesn't live anywhere around the area. I live in San Patong and I live just a few K down the road, as do others who go to the shop. Repairs cost anywhere from 50 Baht to a couple hundred usually.

I witnessed this my first week in Thailand. Some guy ran over a puppy in a small soi, breaking it's back. The screams from this poor animal were excrutiating to hear. The driver got out of his car, looked at the puppy and got back in and drove away. The other tourists were horrified, wondering what to do. The Thais? Mai Pen Rai. Just walked away. Luckily, I lived on a farm and had to put down many sick or injured animals. I picked up the still squealing pup, brought it around the side of a building and ended it's pain quickly. No more suffering. And the Thais said I was a bad man and will be punished for it. Go figure.

The wife and I have never set foot again in Thai waters after what we've seen over the years during low tide. Car parts, hundreds of broken beer bottles, pylons, barbed wire, animal carcasses etc....

How about Crawfish? (Crawdads/Crayfish) People in Louisiana do it after or with their rice crops are harvested. Doesn't hurt the rice crop. Gives them multiple incomes. And has just about the same weather. I for one would buy lots of them, and I'm sure others would too. Look in the archives and check out some of the postings. I think you'll find a member in there that sells breeders to start with.
Good Luck.

Grass?
in Chiang Mai
I bought some Malaysiangrass. Just layed it down during the hot season and against advice put it down without fertilizer or scratching up the land. I just threw it down and stamped on it. Suprisingly, it spread like wildfire. And I have the worst land possible for anything to grow. Grows best in shaded areas. My friends said it would choke out the other weeds, but unfortunatly, my weeds seem to be much stronger and are now taking back the land, no matter how fast I de-weed. If you don't have much of a weed problem, Malaysian grass is a good and cheap grass to go with. It even went through my driveway. But it will be over taken by other weeds. I have a particular weed. I don't know what it's called. It is like a vine along the ground. It has a yellow flower and takes over everything. Not a bad looking weed, but no poison will kill it. The locals say, once you have it, it's yours for life. Good luck. I would say go with Malaysian.

Get ready for the apologists: "Well people throw eggs in all countries, so..."
There's no need to apologize nor is there any reason to get your knickers in a knot and turn this into some dramatic international incident. There is nothing to indicate they weren't throwing eggs at everyone they thought an easy target, whether foreign or not. It's a childish thing to do and yes it happens in other countries.
Justin Bieber, a Canadian, staying in the US. was throwing eggs at Americans ... his neighbors. It was considered a childish, stupid thing to do, but most people laughed it off as something dumb. I don't think any hysterical posters in the US tried to suggest it had anything to do with race or nationality.
More importantly, despite all the violence recently because of the election and rice scheme, no one has attempted to use that as an excuse to target foreigners, despite the hyperventilating Thai Visa US-versus-THEM proponents who insist that "THEY don't want US here."
Try to put things into perspective. Silly teenage boys doing something stupid. It's nothing to do with Thai culture or antipathy for resident foreigners and there's no need to have palpitations or to go apoplectic.
Your right on that. I threw dozens of eggs with my friends as kids. Race or nationality had nothing to do with it. Just kids being kids.

I buy it at Makro, right in the front-right when you walk in, next to the Indian food. Big bags and super cheap. Lasts me months and I use it every day.
