  3. Although I'm a avid fan & supporter of the coupon food courts, yesterday's visit to don mutant had me surprised, my 1st visit for 6 months but how there's a steakhouse, subway, KFC in the domestic terminal concourse just avoid that dreadfully Burger King ( a bad example of the franchise)

  7. Previous post are great, It's all about the simple lifestyle, good food, friendly good natured isaan people, as in previous posts, if you can enjoy above lifestyle within a reasonable distance to a major town so you can indulge in a sunday roast & a few jugs & entertainment all the better.

  8. A true horror story,Ah well, as long as you learn from expierience, Never do a planned family trip with half the house on a budget airline. Only travel budget with 1 bag you can carry yourself, this is the market they target, the TRAVELLER, NOT the family guy with 100 KILOS, your'e asking for trouble from the word go, you could have flown emarites from syd-bkk direct, with 30 kilo's luggage allowance for free, sometimes on special for $840.Yes there not my preferred airline, even domestic in thailand if you want to change dates, the original online price just about doubles (T A A )

  9. Thanks, I usually stay @ pornping tower, so it's a short walk maybe 10-15 min, or 50-60 baht in tuk-tuk (im guessing) the strole sounds better with a couple of pit-stops on the way for a yen leo.

    rgds all & merry xmas

  10. I flew SYD-BKK once with the family, she still reminds me of it, about a 4hr stopover @ brunei, nothing to do,but the flight BRUNEI-BKK was in a 767, with an australian pilot (x-ansett), It was still to this day the most remarkable landing I ever had, I don't know if he had a change of plan or whatever but we descended at a very steep angle to a perfect landing, you could tell he knew his shit.

  11. Watching a fair bit of air crash investigation, because of interest you can learn a lot, apparently the boeing 747, yes the old full aluminium jumbo was built very sturdy, with a lot of good features some of the airbuses modified, simplified, these rather on a cost basis than retaining 2 system reliability, basically they were built to last.

  12. My trip back to aus last month was with thai, but the 747-400 aircraft allocated didn't have individual screens just the one big screen in the front of cabin, something common in the 70's, 80's. I didn't think they still had planes like that, maybe thai should upgrade, They use to use 777's on the SYD-BKK run, but now we got these aging jumbo's

  13. Thanks for the heads up,i'll be sure to visit. I always stay @ pan house, so I know surrounding area, & there's some mighty fine establishments around locally, not to mention the yen yen ales @ T.C. kitchen, but have never venture to far because of lack of tuk-tuks in the evenings, but now there seems to be more & more taxi-metres available next visit I.ll explore what this great city has to offer.

  14. Your'e joking surely, With all the good eateries in ubon, why anyone would venture into Mcd especially on xmas day needs deporting A S A P, surely the big hotels will have xmas lunch or the expat bars, lance @ T C's kitchen ?wrong way?do some ground work.

  15. Interseting, They certainly don't give much notice, I hope the CNX-UBP route fares better, or as santisuk suggested fly thru discounts with reasonable connection times, I have to admit now it's all at don muang things are more convenient, Is the CNX-UBP route well patronised ? every flight I caught in the last month both AA & NOK (all from or to BKK) were full.
