  1. It is true about passport offices,I want to take g/f to vietnam for holiday, at the intended departure date she will have only 3 months valid on passport, vietnam require 6 months, she applied at ubon office, then got a phone call, cannot do, money, passport refunded, she has to telephone tomorrow, hopefully she can renew, time is getting short, (1 month)

  2. My G/F is having problems renewing her passport @ ubon office, I am led to believe it has to do with current protests against the present government ?I was looking to take her to vietnam for holiday but she only has 3 months valid passport, we'll be over & back in 12 days (leaving march 25) hope everything improves.

  3. I don't see the need for a car in thailand, when transport is so readily available, motorbike, yes to go to markets, etc, but with it's small size, & big population, your'e got planes, trains, buses, for long distances, or songhtaews, motorbike taxis, tuk tuk for short distances, unless you really live in the sticks, I cant see the added expense justified, just my 2 bobs worth.

  4. Is there a hire-car taxi service to chiang rai from chiang mai, the reason being the sister, brother in law will be visiting C.M.forthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif 12 days, which is a bit long in C.M, i was thinking 1 nite in chiang-rai, minibus to tha-thon then back by boat on the kok river, then taxi back to C.Mai, 2 day getaway, or air-con bus, where do they leave from,? how much?

  5. Considering she got your name tattooed, salon owner, want to meet parents, I would proceed onward on your terms! visit the parents as a friend, sounds like she has genuine feelings for you, spend time together, possibly a holiday together before the village trip, You'll never know till you try,

  6. Nong Khai is holding a Mor Lam concert this weekend Nov 3. Always a big smash up with lots of music and drinking. Very popular with Laotians. The upper region of Isaan is very nice> Chiang Khan, Sri Chang Mai, Sangkhom, Nong Khai among others.

Very nice drive, friendly people and there always seems to be a concert going on in a village most weekends. However hard to know as most do not advertise and what little there is in Thai. Word of mouth is how it seems to be.

Don't forget the excellent restaurant on the banks. Of the Mekong river a few miles out of town heading to Sri Chiangmai-Mai on the old road ( riverside)

    Cheers songhklasid

  7. What about ubon, the gateway to pakse the southern capital of Laos , easily a entertaining week's excursion from ubon ratchathani, which itself is a good city, kong. Chaim resort on the Mekong river.

    All good songhklasid.

  9. My pet hate is when boarding a flight ,the attendants instruct those seated in rear of aircraft to board first, common sense, but not to Asians, mad scramble with suitcase size carry -ons ,so by time I get to the aisle the line up is horrendous , they never learn.

  10. My condolences to family of deceased, sounds to me that given the boat was overcrowded, & a problem with water ingress in the engine compartment, the natural thing for the passengers to do would be to go to the top deck, away from the rising water, resulting in stability problems with all the weight shifting vertically upwards, thus the boat rolling over, had the crew had proper training they could have kept people calm, reassured whilst radio for help, kept people downstairs as long as possible, don life jackets , just maybe lives could have been saved.

    Regards songhklasid

  11. Just to update,we are in the river view place hotel, o k mainly cater for conventions though, get the feeling you're in the way at times, plus not much around it, have to tuk tuk to restaurants, but good sightseeing (temples) floating markets, good river views from the hotel balcony. Dry but hot!
