I am taking a thai lady to phuket for a short holiday, staying @ salathai resort, patong beach, not having been to patong for 10years, I am asking advice on a quieter open area bar with music maybe, food & drink, a place where you can talk & enjoy good atmosphere, rather than head banging loud beer bars, & drunken ,vomiting young falangs, mind you, 3 decades ago i was one of them myself, my 1st visit to patong beach being 1980,Anyway that's another story, any advice appreciated, cheers

I have recently discovered bangkok airways, mid price between the LCC-thai,on a recent flight to CNX, we were served with a meal, fish curry with rice, totally unexpected on a domestic flight, not to mention the lounges @ either airports, free tea, coffee, internet,They know how to charge on their exclusive routes, but on competitive popular routes they are my choice, I even joined frequent flyer, impressed.

Nothing to do with the crash, god rest their souls, but november last year, I took a friend BKK to PP, phnom penh, see wanted to see sites there,I booked months previously,However , she was ill once there, & I had to cut our 10 day stay (sinoukville included) & head back to thailand after 3 days, the cost of the alteration was near $200 american, more than I paid for the original tickets, so beware people, I loathe to travel with them in future.

I disagree, I recently flew qantas SYD-BKK return, although cheap $740 aus & a direct flight, there food & service was very ordinary, 1.5 hrs late, food was dismal, I'de rather thai anyday, lets hope there still puting the 2 latest A380's on the SYD=BKK run, = plenty of cheap seats.

Stayed at pool house serviced apartments ,10 min from don muang, with free return transfer & breakfast, about 1500 baht , all rooms back on to a 40 metre lap pool .

Just a thank you to lance & Tom @ T C bar & kitchen ubon ratchathani, I' Ve got to know a lot of the expat locals over the 6 years I' Ve been visiting paradise ubon, & to have a good drink & yarn on my birthday before leaving was enjoyable, yous'e are a good group of people who genuinely look out for each other, due to circumstances I might not visit as frequently as in the past, but I will return.

I bring cash, change @ money exchange ( there's a couple round nana BKK area) then walk straight to bangkok bank & deposit into my thai bangkok bank account, & use funds as required, only a 20 baht withdrawal fee outside of bkk

The seafood restaurants on samila beach, excellent, best tom yum goong I ever had, songhkla has the biggest lake in thailand, feeds into the gulf, goong daam, black prawns are farmed here,as for the romantic side, try what the local expsts call the 'dark side', if it's still happening, english guy had the 'office' bar, mine of information.that should get you started.

Apart from the recent tragedy, (my thoughts go out to families of victims)a small island renowned for diving, surely good beaches, a bit of nitelife, no, haven't been there, I'd be safe, after a few beers & a good seafood meal, I'm ready for bed, usually.
