  1. Geez...are any of you awake out there? Prices dropping? What a joke. just paid 11 baht more for a pack of cigs at 7/11. Tomorrow I will buy beer and am sure that will also increase. The 'sin' taxes borrowed from America will hurt most of us..unless you are a monk! Good idea, but not for Thailand. They need to do something about the corruptive government before they try to instill western economic practices.

Stop smoking and drinking both practices are bad for your health.have a good look at the UK government it is as corrupt as you can get .The latest scandal to come from the good old UK.

  2. As Garro points out, you can find love anywhere. However, finding love that will last over many years is the problem. And, I'm not confusing love with lust. There are endless discussions about it and hundreds of well written books with excellent advice. That said however, when dealing with feelings of the heart you can throw all reasonable thought into the trash can. There are many types of love: love for your sexual partner, love for your children, love for your siblings and parents, and even love for a good friend who is not a sexual partner.

People are attracted to other people for a variety of reasons. When it becomes sexual it is usually called "love". That kind of love may or may not last. Very often people who are physically attracted to each other can not live together. They just naturally clash over a variety of reasons. People who are NOT particularly attracted to each other physically might eventually fall in love if they live together over a long term. It is too complicated an issue to discuss on a internet forum.

I've been married twice and I'm too old to go through that routine again. I was never really in love with my first wife, but our marriage lasted 20 years and she was the mother of my two children. We are still good friends today. I was nuts in love with my second wife, but unfortunately, her druggy son drove a permanent wedge between us. So, I DO have some understanding about the subject "love".

I DO know that love can die just as quick as it can begin. It usually dies when there are a lot of road blocks that were in place before the couple got together. We usually call those blockages "baggage". Mixing cultures can be a huge problem. Mixing religions can be another. Children from a previous marriage is another that often ends a new relationship. Money problems are another issue that can end a relationship. But, most of all it all depends on the personality of each partner.

    Good post very true.

  3. you need to inform at swansea dvlc

that there is a change of address

other wise you can be landed with a 1000 pound fine

you are useing a d/l not registered to that address and you don't live there

When i moved to thailand i informed dvlc that i was moving to thailand and did not have a home in the uk.They returned the driving licence with my last uk address on .they could not change as i do not have a current uk address and left the previous address on the licence. If i move back to the uk and get a uk address at which i am living they informed me to send the driving licence in again for it to be updated.

  4. Chiangmai is a very strong base for the reds. They will join the big protest tomorrow in Bangkok to fight with Abhisit and those behind him.

This was on 22nd March 2009:

    redcm2.jpg

If you look at this group it is a very small gathering .Each time we see pictures of the red shirts gathering they seem to be getting smaller each time.I am not a supporter of either side just a observation.

  5. That's what you can get if you adopt one or both rotties, that are looking for a new home. The owner moves to a smaller home and is not able to take the dogs this new home.

Both are friendly males of approximately 5 years old.

Interested and would like more information or see the dogs? Please contact Care for Dogs

This type of dog can never be trusted and should never be near any small children.they are far from lovable dogs avoid them like the plague.

  6. Whilst being in total support of planting trees - (my own garden is proof of that); it is perhaps noticeable that not many large trees survive in your average villagers garden. As soon as they become of valuable size, they are often sold for either the wood or to be dug up and transplanted to some resort. Whilst planting it might be an idea to slap a "preservation order" on any tree of decent size still standing . Whatever benefits the community are receiving from this organisation should be tied to preserving what is actually standing at present .

No need to check on all the tiny seedlings, you need to check on all the larger trees of marketable value, otherwise they will be clearing those to make way for more free seedlings.

As a Thai, every time I read about negative head foreigners I have the questions for you. If you think badly of Thai people, Thai country, why are you here. If you want think our country is not good, I think you have right to leave to where you moved.

For this tree planting, I think the organizer is Thai. To see farangs care for 100 Baht which go for transportation, leaflet, lunch, I want to know if you can pay this amount in your country?

You don't help them, better zip your mount. If you really want to help read the last line "

Do not love the Environment by saying it.

Your 1 tree will be 1,000,000 trees for Chiang Mai

    Many hands make light work!

I am very fed up with farangs. If you start hitting our people, I will be here to hit you back.

I think you have a problem my friend .In no way did the post require a response like that, just think before you post.

  7. My wife and I are both American citizens over 50 years old who have been living in Chiang Mai for the last year on our initial "retirement" visa extension. When we received our initial extension I documented our marital status using a marriage affidavit obtained at the U.S. consulate so we would both qualify under a single 800,000 baht yearly income. Soon we will need to apply for our first one year renewal, but before doing so I need to find out whether a new marriage affidavit will be required or whether the original one will be acceptable to the immigration authorities. I would very much appreciate a response from anyone who can answer my question.

Why is your wife not a dependant on your visa extension only one B800,000 required in bank.

  8. Opposition files impeachment motion against Abhisit

BANGKOK: -- The opposition Pheu Thai Party Wednesday asked the Senate to impeach Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on charges of corruption and constitutional violations.

Pheu Thai MP Piraphan Phalusuk represented his party to file an impeachment motion against Abhisit with Senate Speaker Prasobsuk Boondej at Parliament at 10 am. The motion was sponsored by 158 Pheu Thai MPs.

The impeachment motion is part of the no-confidence plan against the prime minister. The Constitution requires the opposition to seek an impeachment against the prime minister when it decides to hold a censure debate against the premier.

The motion alleged that Abhisit did not support democracy and abused his authority and had concealed allegedly unlawful donations given to his Democrat Party.

They are all like school children ,when are thy all going to grow up and try to save thailand

  9. Veering back on topic, we do need to differentiate between at least three kinds of expats

    1. The young under-30 with little more than a sex partner, maybe teaching English

    2. Over 30, settled in, working full time, a real life partner and maybe one to four kids

    3. Retired, any kids are all adults and gone. You're over 60, with a partner already or destined to be your caretaker until you die

I am in group 3, but I know a few men over 50 with babies at home who fit between categories. And some working older teachers with much younger mates of either gender.

That group 3 is here to stay, since we have nothing better to go back home to. If you are from Europe-UK, the exchange rate is hurting, but hopefully you prepared for that. And the partner-caretaker soon becomes the biggest insurance policy of all.

    We are group 3

Both mywife and myself over 50 and from uk,exchange rate not good but with a bit of forethought transfered GBP into bahts when at 66 so ok for the next 12-18 months. Also keep your 800,000 in a seperate account and you wont have to keep worrying about exchange rates. If you have not got enough money to do that you should not be here.

  11. It is the nearest hospital from where I live but I would not use it anymore.

For first aid maybe, for the rest absolutely not.

More information please as to why?.

No, I have no interest in explaining why.

I don't have time to write for a complete page.

half a story chav waste of time posting then

  12. Just got back from taking the missus to hospital where she had 21 Stitches in her head and leg after being pushed into the patio glass plate window (by a thai ghost she says :o

She was at the next door neibours and I hear an almighty crash and glass smashing, seconds later I was called by the neibours and found her unconcious with blood pissing out her head, luckily I am medically trained as I was a diving instructor for 20 years so knew what to do and quickly stopped the bleeding from her head, was more concerned she was going in and out of conciousness.

Finally she came round, at the same time her Mom fainted when she saw the blood, so now I got the missus covered in blood the mother in law passed out on the floor, 4 thai neibours yelling LOL, what a drama.

It really could of been a lot worse I still don't know what happened since the patio doors next door had curtains up, she said she felt someone (a ghost) push her from behind :D I have to laugh a bit at the ghost thing but they truly beleive it.

Anyway since I live out at Kad Farang I did not want to go all the way to ram so went to Klaimor hospital just past tesco lotus on the hang dong road and must say it was a very good hospital, doctor spoke english although seems to cater for mainly thais as i did not see another farang there.

Treatment was excellent and they stitched her up, 7 in the head wound and 14 in the leg, gave her an x ray as the head wound was quite deep all in all cost me 2300 baht including medication

Anyone else got experience from this hospital

So its been a drama of a Saturday so far hope thats it for the day :D

P.S can I get smelling salts here for the mother inlaw as whenever she see's blood she passes out

anyone know what they call smelling salts in thai

Yes we have used this hospital for over a year now and had nothing but fantastic service. They picked a problem up with my wife that it turns out she as had since birth.it was picked up on a x ray but was never picked up in the uk in over 50 years.so i have nothing but praise for this hospital and its nurses and doctors.

  13. I have a gold man's ring which needs to have the stone replaced. Does anyone know of a jeweler in Chiang Mai who might be able to do this?

    Thanks

Nassar, the owner of Sharez Jewelers, is as honest as a person can be and still have his feet touching the ground! :o

You can find his advertisements in most of Chiang Mai's tourist magazines. His shop is just past (east) the of road that goes the wrong direction ( sorry but I don't know the name of that street. If you're a driver, it's the one that drives on the opposite side than Thailand style,) mid-way down Thapae Road about two shops in from the corner of that intersection on the north side of the street. Absolutely reliable. Gave me the best prices on matched stones that I found anywhere! Having them appraised afterwards gave proof to his fair dealing. He charged me considerably less than the appraisal value, including the settings. I wouldn't go anywhere else (in Chiang Mai) for jewelery purchases.

Have to agree. Nasser of Shiraz Jewelers is a very honest man and has been serving Chiang Mai at the same address for about 24 years !

    Cheers.

I must disagree strongly. Nasser has ripped me off, and has a reputation too. I know Nasser very well. My ex wife was involved in a religious situation with him and his wife for awhile. I bought 2 Pearls from him, then left them with him to get mounted in ear rings. He switched the Pearls to something much cheaper (for him). A very good con man for many years in my opinion.

Out of anyone in Chiang Mai, I think Nasser is the biggest rip-off

I purchased some rubies from Shiraz Jewelers last year and had them appraised back in the uk .They were of better quality than we even thought they were.and are worth 75% more than we paid for them here

all i can say is that my experiences at the above have only been good.we have also had a ring fitted with a new stone which was matched perfectly to the one that was missing.

  14. hi i am sorry if this question has been discussed(which i am sure) but i seem to find different answers.

book(??) i need to show at imm office. could someone please explain to me.

    thanks in advange

    rick

you will need Your rental agreement and a copy also a residency letter from immigration 500B then copies of your passport and visa pages and medical certificate from a doctor 60-100 B.have just renewed my thai licence for 5 years
  15. Can anyone please recommend a professional, curtious Real estate company or agent in Chaing Mai to assist in finding a condo or apartment for rent with a long term contract?

We had a horrible experience with a local agent at H.T. Properties. After the agent showed us some properties I told him the unit I wanted to rent. He then either ignored us, gave us incorrect information or just told us that its not his job to get the contract terms from the owner. All we wanted to do was give him money to rent the condo! :o

:D This past experience with H.T. Properties was not just a symptom of the "Mai Pen Ria" way of life (Which I love by the way), it was just unprofessional. He just did not seem to want to bother with us.

Is looking in Citylife.com or another classified the best way to find a condo for rent in Chiang Mai? Any advise on great agents or companies would be greatly apreciated. Thanks everyone! :D

We rent a property from HT Properties, and find them very Professional we have just renewed our tenancy for 2 years .As regards to anything to do with the house one phone call to the owner of the company (Mary) and the repairs are done the same day.I would be interested to know the name of the male who showed you the properties as the only staff that we deal with are women ,other than the maintenance men.

Also i would be interested to know how long ago this happened?.

  16. does anyone know of a mobile car mechanic in chiang mai .

Gotta say that I have no idea how to respond without way, way more information..

Are we talking about a radio-controlled car?

A mobile mechanic who will come pick up your car and take it to his shop for repairs?

Someone who can change a tire or charge your battery or repair/replace a transmission on-site?

Do you or your significant other speak enough Thai to accurately explain the problem so a mechanic knows what to bring along?

    Please be more specific..

Problem solved managed to get a mobile mechanic with such little information, and he could repair the car as well so that was a bonus .
