We went last night very good worth a visit,if you dont mind crowds.

  2. Can someone tell me where the motorbike licence office is. i think its on Highway 108/ Hangdon Rd. My "big map" dosent show it. Directions and nearby landmarks appreciated, as the turning oppourtunities on that rd are limited. ( if thats where it is)

    Thanks

After tesco lotus on your left if you are going from chiang mai to hang dong purple railings ,you cant miss it i think their is a sign that says transport office (not sure)

  3. I have a worrying question which i hope someone can help clarify for me-

I have a long outstanding debt to a UK Bank, not big, but enough. The debt collecting agency got my number here and has now said that if i don't pay it will be passed to the courts in UK to get a court order to approach immigration here and request the cancellation of any visas i have to stay in Thailand. I work here on a non B. Is this really possible ? Needless to say, I am very worried about this!

Take no notice they are trying to frighten you into coming to some agreement with them.It is a civil matter so dont worry

  4. Try World Express Travel, Chang Klan Rd nearly opposite Kasikorn bank they will look for cheapest flight available very good service we got a Eva air flight in march return end april for 32,800 each including taxes. That is Bkk to Heathrow we then paid 2400 each way Bkk to chaing Mai

  5. Annual outbreaks in Chiang Mai Valley and sporadic cases in Bangkok suburbs

Should take this seriouss once infected nothing can help, and it have an high mortality rate.

The web site shows risks to be May to October (rainy season) in Thailand & border nations.

    The risk in the suburbs of Bangkok are much underestimated, because many compounds in that suburbs of Bangkok are build on, and surrounded by old paddy fields;

the water is not drainage and stand still, they are an excellent breading places for mosquitoes.

I stayed many times in Nonthaburi and Bang Bua Thong area, I always get terrible mosquito bites, once I even have to go hospital because my legs and arms where swollen. I renew my Japanese encephalitis vaccines every 3 year, even its very expensive

Just taken a look at your second link & i'm in the hi risk areas rice paddys everywere & pigs close by, i can't even remember 2 years ago that my NHS doctor even mentioned this virus even though he new i had swelling from mosquito bites, so maybe i've been lucky i don't seem to get bit as much now for some reason but will look into local clinics here for the injections next march time.

For those from the UK i've just read familys being quoted £800 at private clinic's but it can be done via your doctor were as he give's you a presciption fixing the cost & one of is nurses will inject for free, but it seems the cheapest option is if your long term is to do it here in Thailand, also it was mentioned that vaccination is not recommened for short stay tourists ie up to 4 weeks,so more of a expat risk.

We had the injection in the uk at our doctors and was charged 174 GBP each for the course of injections it is not free on the national Health Service in the UK

  6. To your replys,

I do not know if a flu is enough to get a stay on medical reasons. Isaan got cold at that time and my children 1 and 4 years my Thai girlfriend and me felt not well.

I wanted to Overstay a week and the

3.500.- I had to pay than, ok for me.

    So, I had a reservation for 24.11.

And I had changed that and could show that, to 1.12.

And on that date it was not possible to fly and later only with problems in U TAPAO or with a BITEC check in and no non stop flights I paid for!

So I waited and get punished for the Thai problems, had to pay nearly 3 weeks Overstay more!

I could proof that I had a ticket for 112. So they should let me pay 1 week, not much more!

After that week it was not my fault.

And if I would have known from that new 15 days Visas on arrival and that it is suitable for me, I would have used that possibilty earlyer.

What made CAPTAIN AHAB (the one legged captain in Moby Dick) angry,

Maybe that he has that problem and

I think its his style to be pissed of.

What I said to my girlfriend?

I said, If they make it difficult in Thailand for me to like it here, maybe the Thai Goverment will give you and your children money and take care you and all.

I also not married, I not think I can get a 60 day extention for family reasons.

    It will not change something,

(How Thaksin said, -just ignore them!) but I will write to the TAT and the Immigration in BKK.

Just read your own reply, you will have your own answers you are the problem and as for insulting the immigration officers disability you should be ashamed of yourself.
  7. Can anyone tell me if World Express travel on chang klan road nearly opposite kasikorn Bank are reliable.I have been told they are but would like to see if anyone as had a bad expierience their.

  8. I have only had good experiences with Ram Hospital and also its Dental Clinic where I always go for anything that might be serious.

I hate hospitals. The C M Ram is no exception. They make my hypertension rocket. But when all else fails i go there. Over servicing is a major problem and oversupply of drugs, particularly antibiotics is rampant. All the drug costs are 100% on retail. And I have heard that they doctors are subsidised by the drug companies. So its up to you to make sure you have control of the situation rather than the hospital. Check and dispute the bill if you feel the need and do not pay anything untill you see the bill. The drugs are easily available from say Phama Choice. Let the buyer beware! and in any event check the internet for drugs prescribed and info on what is wrong and how to fix it

Sorry if i sound stupid but where is phama choice/.

  9. I have heard that there is a recently started VIP Bus Service that runs from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin and is run by Sombat Tours.

Has anyone used the service yet, if so I would be interested in knowing what the trip is like.

I cannot seem to find an active website for Sombat Tours so if anyone can let me know appx cost, what time the buses leave and arrive, plus anywhere that I am able to book a seat it would be much appreciated. Am looking at traveling on or about the 3rd April next year.

Look forward to hearing from anyone who has done the trip.

    :o:D:D:D

we had a friend who came to chiang mai in february who got a bus from chiang mai to hua hin he booked the day before said it was ok took 12 hours.I think it left chiang mai at 8 am.
  10. Wife says [but is sometimes wrong] that the anual farm fair is going on this weekend in Maejo.

Please confirm and don't mention that I said that my wife is sometimes wrong......

There's certainly something going on on at The Maejo University Campus. Being quite close by, I popped in for a look and can highly recommend a visit if you're into Gardening or Food. Miles of stalls of plants ( all labelled in Thai-not a Latin name to be seen) down many different avenues and miles of stalls of delectable snacks down other avenues. If you're lnto Orchids or Sausages its for you. No sign of Farm animals ; no pigs, cows, goats, bulls, little lambs or even hens except on spits.

I could have missed them as it spreads over many, many acres and I never got a map. But its hardly a FARM FARE. Its a plant and food fare. A classier mixture of Kamthieng Plants, Thanin Food, and Warorot miscellaneous,( I got my catapault there), lots of good cheap clothes, - 99baht for a really good tee shirt-and wonderful wood furniture, but all in a pleasantly expansive environment.

There was also a large football-pitch-sized Stadium which was being prepared for some sort of Concert, maybe Saturday. You could flounce around in a pony and trap at your pleasure or go with the proles on a little train like at the the zoo. Altogether an interesting half days entertainment. It was packed on Friday afternoon so what Saturday will be like is anyon'e guess. Its a big, big Market. And very enjoyable. Its not an Agricultural Fare as far as I could see. I saw no Cowboys.

Do you know What time does it open each day,and is on until the 10th as a previos poster said .Thanks

  11. can anyone recommend any tips and tricks that will help me open a thai bank account please? i've been advised that bangkok bank is my most likely avenue. i'm on a tourist visa and have been in the kingdom for about eight months if that helps any. cheers.

I opened one at Kasikorn Bank in Chiangmai is September. I had only been in the country for five days and was on a 30 day visa waiver entry.

Just showed passport and used hotel as address.

    No problem

Yes we did same last year before we moved here .Kasicorn bank as stated passport and hotel address you are staying at

  12. we have been here a year and it is a lot cheaper than the uk in general and the weather is great to go with it.

    G'day,

My wife (Thai) and I just moved here from San Francisco to Chiang Mai recently. We had been in Bangkok briefly too.

As we were shopping to fill the rental house, we found that it isn't as cheap to live in Thailand as we have originally thought (we must have been away for a long time). Of course, if you want to buy fish sauce, it is cheap here, but not by very much from say the Asian supermarket back in California.

For most other things, it's usually quite a lot more expensive; we are not even talking about luxury items like wine and cheese etc which is by the way too costly.

For some things like bath towels, there are always cheaper lookalikes which is of very poor quality. For the price we pay for the cheap ones, we can usually get the good ones in the US.

Do you agreed? Or did we just go to the wrong place to shop? We went to the regular places like Lotus, Big C, Carrefour, etc.

    Regards

    Matt

  13. Apologists for the PAD will always find a reason to question reports on Thailand in the Western press, some through bizarre conspiracy theories, some through ignorance and denial and some because they cannot bear to hear the truth...

The farang defenders of the PAD leadership and mob are an odd lot. Quite why they have thrown in their lot with this gruesome bunch of fascists is hard to understand...

I'm starting to wonder if many of the Thai Visa PADophiles are heavily involved with drugs as another member insisted. As far as I can see, killing thousands of heroin and Meth dealers to solve Thailand's drug problem is Thaksins greatest sin and why they keep insisting that he is, "more evil than Hitler". The thing is that since his campaign the drug culture in Thailand has faded into the woodwork. His strongman methods seem to have worked.

For all of his faults, he has made things better for foreigners by vastly improving the visa system and making it much easier to get work permits and to start a business. These things were very difficult before he was in power. Now they are almost routine. The guy is a business man, not a bogeyman.

PAD wants to go back to the way things were in the past including getting rid of all of us farangs and doing away with our businesses so that Thai's with little business acumen or talent can control everything once more.

Every day on Thai Visa I see these PADophiles making excuses for PAD, twisting the truth and justifying their actions and I have to wonder why. Do they really hate their own kind so much?

Would you have thought the same if a US president or a UK Primeinister had done all the things Thaksin did (Fraud Murder) i dont think so.
  14. If you don't understand the meaning of my post, please feel free to pm me for a personal explanation.

    Cheers.

Thanks but I have already seen those posts.I suppose it will emerge fairly soon whether the report is a hoax or not.I am afraid I still find your post rather bizarre but am not really that interested in finding out the reasons for this.

But I could be wrong since I note the AFP reports they have had sight of the relevant email.Ah well if so put it down to another "younghusband" or incorrect call, as Siripon once put it!

Not a hoax as been reported on many TV news channels good riddance to the thieving Ba****D
