  1. WhiteCad, What kind of riding are you looking for? There is a lot of good road riding around and behind Doi Kham where you see the white Buddha up on the hill. Even a trail to a little-known waterfall.

From the Night Safari you can also take some nice quiet roads south all the way to OpKhan National Park, take a nice swim, and then head back home. If you are looking for more off-road riding, I can send you some GPS coordinates for a nice isolated work-out from OpKhan back to the Samoung Road.

  2. Sounds good guys. I'll go check them out.... Are they actually on Kamphaeng Din just south of the funky Sri Donchai intersection (where nobody's ever sure if the cross traffic will yield or not) ? And on the left hand side even ? I forget, but I know I've seen it before.

Never been in, but all of those specials sound mighty fine. Time to go have a look-see.

You should enjoy it. I don't know of a restaurant owner in Chiang Mai that works harder, (and usually with his staff) than Rudy does.

  3. AA Advance Aviation almost finished their helipad construction in Chiang Mai.

At the moment the EC 130 is stationed overthere. Nice helicopter.

If you come from Chiang Mai on the Hang Dong road, turn left at the Big C, after about 1 km you will see the beast on your left.

I guess it will be around 80.000 baht an hour, 6 passengers and 01 pilot.

Saw it fly overhead last week. Very quiet machine. Here's a brief tour of one, albeit with some extra tactical equipment.

  4. I'm on the AIS 3GSM Cheap Charlie plan- 1.5 GB 300 B.

But I do also have a DTAC Edge mobile connect, and an apt bldg LAN (Maxnet ADSL) which is free.

Living in Thailand, I find that having a veritable Swiss Army Knife of access points is the way to go....

Yep! Always good to have to have an option! I forgot to mention that the throttling on the UNLIMITED BUT STILL LIMITED Plan occurs only between 7 AM and midnight. Right now (after midnight) I have ripping 3 megabit per second speeds. Guess I can download a goodnight lullaby!

  5. Ah, T-Dog...for a full throttle guy like you....you've been throttled.

    Bloody hel_l!

Yeah, I remember reading an earlier post by a member who mentioned the "unlimited" package is not really unlimited from AIS.

Well that explains it, and here is my current speed from near CMU/Zoo area:

Griff... You keep rubbing it in! And... You obviously don't download enough! :o

  6. The AIS technician came to our place today for 90 minutes and verified that the "Unlimited" 2700 baht air stick is LIMITED in high speed up to 4 gigs of download. Once past that each month, you are throttled. We are stuck at .19 megabits per second until the next month.

So.... BUYER BEWARE! We used up our 4 gigs in about a week with YouTube, games, SKYPE, and online music. Hardly an unlimited package.

  7. looks great in Black, Congratz, hope she treats you well.

Canuck.... Getting around to doing my cam chain. I finally can hear what my mechanic hears. If you come to stop and let the engine idle, you will hear the cam chain slap occasionally as the engine hunts at idle. Once you hear it, it's pretty noticeable. Looks like around 1000 baht for the parts and a bit more for labor.

Thanks dog, I will have a listen to mine. That is a cheaper than I thought it would be.

Got it done today. Six hours, 1562 baht total to replace the chain and the tensioner. The guides and sprockets were fine. Took it for a run up Doi Suthep and the engine sure is quiet now. Headed north tomorrow on a shorty and then a long ride after Thanksgiving. Nat Motor on Huay Gaew Road sure does great work in my book.

  8. Accidentally fell into the grand opening of Kano Spaghetti near Wat Umong. Very economical and varied menu along with salads, coffees and herbal drinks. Look for a small cabin with white window frames on the right just before you get to Wat Umong if you are coming from CMU on Soi Wat Umong. (It is right in front of IT Palace residence.) Great for getting a pasta fix for less than a hundred baht.

  9. AIS just called us to try to debug the situation, and we are getting a story that the "Unlimited" 3G Stick (2700 baht purchase and 499 a month) gives you an initial 4 Gigs of download and then you are throttled. That is why we are at the consistent speed of .19 megabit per second. To add to the confusion, we had not yet reached our limit before the throttling.

  10. Anybody on Chiang Mai-Hang Dong Rd. using AIS Super 3G having problems lately?

    MSPain

We are still stuck at .19 megabits per second here near the zoo. AIS just called to ask us if we are still slow. Hopefully they are working on it. What's your speed running at?

  11. SMS747.... I've been "in the fight" since I had HP four years ago. I appreciate some of FBN's suggestions in his excellent and thorough post.

I would add that you should avoid ALL carbonated drinks, especially beer. I can be symptom-free for weeks and a bottle of beer will re-trigger the pain. Red wine seems to be okay to drink, and I wonder if it is the tannins or lack of carbonation that makes it have less impact.

Also, drink plenty of room temperature water, especially as soon as you wake up, and avoid ice.

  12. mcgriff.... I would be happy to be getting speeds like yours. The last four days it has been like this for us:

    My link

The first week of service was quite good with 2.6 megabit per second speeds. Then it just died. The help line has not been able to give us any answers as to why it went from "pretty good" to "unusable" for us. We'll be calling the help line people again today. Arrgghhhh

  13. Best to go with someone who knows the route first time. From Huay Tong Tao, got left at the T intersection just inside the park. As soon as you cross over the dam, the trail starts up a steep brushy area. Once up there about 20 meters or so you will see the trail. Several intersections before you get to 700 year stadium but you can probably figure it out. Have fun and watch out for the nasty thorns.

  14. Snowflake.... The CBR150 is indeed a fun bike to drive on the highway and in town. Over the weekend, traffic was jammed up a few times in Chiang Mai but zipping around on my old CBR was actually fun. The CBR250 is only a tad longer so it should be just about as nimble, provided it is sold in Thailand. Although I was hoping the -250 would have been a two cylinder higher performance machine, I bet it will still be a fun ride. Looking forward to seeing it at the Honda shop!

  15. Keylogger software seem to be everywhere these days. Two friends got their GMAIL accounts hacked after using internet cafes here in CM. Not as bad a situation as yours but still inconvenient. I always change my passwords after getting back from traveling which I hope helps. Using credit cards from internet cafes must be especially dicey.

  16. HML..MSPain... I appreciate the suggestions. I noticed that my software is different than a stick I borrowed. Will check out the ideas you have if this doesn't speed up by tomorrow. Thanks again.

  17. T Dog,

A silly question yet I have to ask....... do you have your settings to receive 3G signal only?

When I was using my aircard I had problems until I changed those settings.

    MSPain

Hmmm, if my software is the same as yours, that is under Network Settings. Band choices (900 and 2100 Mhz) are all 3G, no other choices available. If I select GPRS/EDGE only my speed is about half of that selecting UMTS only. What selections did you change?
