  1. Toured the river a bit earlier and it is moving fast, although receding. Stopped at Pun Pun for an excellent lunch and got to meet GTF's delightful family.

The pump in the SuperHighway underpass south of town was working full blast to keep the road somewhat dry. I don't get the feeling the rainy season is over yet but at least for now things look okay.

  2. Tearing out onto Canal Road today my throttle stuck at almost full bore. Did it a few more times so off to the Honda shop. 32 baht later it is as light and as smooth as ever. Sure got my attention the first time I let off and the bike kept accelerating.

  4. This seems like a good thread to celebrate the return of my newly repaired computer.

A couple of kilos of Tokay and I could afford a new one.

I know where there is a monster Tokey, must be 2 foot 6 long. It lives on the side of a guest house bungalow in Chiang Rai, and catches the bugs that collect on the mozzie screen when the light is on.

But I'm not going to tell anyone which guesthouse.......:D

I bet its days are numbered! That is a big one indeed. At our old bungalow, we had an albino one about 20 inches long that the prior tenants named "Iggy". It would catch scorpions and bring them to us when we were eating to show us he was doing his job.

  5. Sawasdee Khrup, Khun T-Dog,

Well, we can tell you the real reason behind this. In April, 2009, we announced, here on this forum, our new product, Tookay Jelly:

Tookay Jelly Premiered in Chiang Mai

Shortly after that announcement, we were visited by a high-ranking officer of the SPCAF in Thailand (Society Promulgating Calumnies Against Farang), and were told in "no uncertain terms" to stop producing Tookay Jelly. Our laboratories were confiscated and dis-assembled by special Haz-Mat squads wearing grade three bio-hazard-containment gear.

Knowing better than to protest, or get angry, we happily signed a "full confession" that the idea of Tookay Jelly was not "original," and that we learned all our trade secrets from some farmer named Lek in Amphur Fang.

Because of our full co-operation, we were allowed to keep our passport and remain in country.

The high-ranking officer, after treating us to a lovely dinner at the Dhari Dhevi Hotel, said, in parting, in a most friendly tone: "You forget all this; and we ... forget you."

    Which we never forgot.

  6. Hi T-DOG

Nothing to add to this thread, just to say it was nice to meet you @ Tuskers on Friday night....

    David

David it was a pleasure meeting you as well. It was an early night for me as I had to get home and brew up some Tokay-B-Ard.

  7. Yes that's true. It has been on the news a few times over the last couple of weeks. The Chinese pay big money for them. They are used for virility - what else? But I think they meant 5K per kilo - not per piece. The tokay hunters were in our moobaan last night as they are often.

Thanks for that. I'll have check out the news a bit more. Tokays have been around a long time so it seems like something has triggered this whole thing.

  8. There have been folks driving around smaller villages around Doi Saket, Mae Rim, and Mae Taeng offering to buy Tokay geckos. These are the big ones, not the small ones you have in your house. Apparently they are offering over 5000 baht for a big one. That's a lot of money for local villagers, so you can be sure that the hunt is on!

Why has this market suddenly appeared? Some say the critters are shipped live into China to be made into medicinal products, but who knows if that is true. Anybody got the true scoop on this?

  9. Hi all!

Just registered and joined today as i am looking to buy a CBR 150, I've been reading this forum non registered for about 2 months now.

I am living in Phuket and have found a 2nd hand CBR 150 at a Honda dealership in Phuket town. It has 5000kms on it and has been dumped at least twice, they tried to tell me it had only been crashed once, but after inspecting the bike thoroughly i am certain it's been dumped at least twice. When i mentioned this, they then told me that they were not sure how many times it has been been crashed/dumped.. (fricken liars):realangry:.

There is damage to the front wheel fender, lower left faring, rear faring is cracked in 2 spots (but not severe), Right side of the fuel tank is caved in from the riders knee but not too much, the passenger handle is all scuffed up and re painted and the muffler has some minor scrapes and scratches. All in all after the repairs it all looks to be in decent condition, (on the outside anyway..)

All of this remains after Honda has replaced and fixed most of the damage.. so you have to wonder just how bad it actually was before they had done any repairs. The original owner was financing it and wasn't able to continue to pay after 8 months, nor was he able to pay to fix the bike after he had crashed/dumped it (at least twice), so they took it back from him and after repairs have been made, they are trying to sell it for 57.000 thb. Supposedly they sold new for 67.000 thb here in Phuket when there were still new ones available, but honestly these guys must be smoking crack and yaba to think they can sell it 2nd hand for 10.000 baht less than sticker price after it's been crashed and rode 5000kms.

I offered them 45.000 THB cash in hand (which is still too much IMHO) because currently there just aren't many CBR 150's available in this part of the country...

    What do you guys think?

Thanks for any reply's in advance :)

    - Entheo

E... Heed the advice you are getting and keep looking. A buddy and I bought identical bikes, both with around 5000 km on the clock for 35 and 37 thousand baht. (Mine had a leaky fork and some minor cosmetic issues so cheaper.) Granted this was three years ago, but the deals are out there if you look hard enough.

  10. the adsmax issue was supposed to have been resolved, and I must admit, I do not have these issues, I will report them to our guyy again

Thanks sbk. Today things are fine, as it's not going to admaxasia at all. Thanks for doing whatever you did.

  11. I am far from a computer expert but fed up with the same problem I switched over to Chrome from FireFox a couple of days ago and it does seem quicker.

I think my solution is to head over to the Teak Door. I am tired of waiting only to see ads between all the posts. ThaiVisa has really taken on an advertising bent in the last 4 months.

  12. LiteBeer, do you have any other suggestions? I cleared my cache, turned off AdBlocker (Firefox) and nothing helps speed up TV. I normally have to wait about 20 seconds for each new thread to pop up. Makes TV very clunky. It keeps waiting for adsmaxasia.

  13. Uncanny all right. The sizes you are using look correct. The only thing I can suggest at this point is to try Geax tubes. They seem to work the best for me and appear to be of much higher quality than any of the other brands available here.

From some of you older photos, you can see some "forming" of the tube rubber to the rim outline but just around the seat area. Don't know if that means anything but worth thinking about.

  14. Ratsima.... Good photos. I did a search on mtbr.com and I saw a few threads where valve area failures were caused by using too small of tube. What size tire are you using and what is the stated range on the tubes you are buying?

That delamination sure does look like a defect, but it could also be stress over the design limits. With the high pressures you like to run, that would increases stresses as well.

Regarding the nut, don't tighten it with pliers. It's okay if it loosens up as you can tighten it when you need to pump up the tire. Many riders don't use them at all.

In all my years of racing and riding mountain bikes, I never heard of anyone having this many flats. Pretty interesting topic, but I am sure you would rather not have the flats!

  15. George.... Isn't there a way you could put a limit on how long your system waits for admaxasia? Give them 4 seconds and if they're not there, then let us go right to our posts bypassing their ads. The problem is very bad this morning....minute long waits.

  16. during the rainy season i try to get my road bike to the LBS for a thorough cleaning every month or so. failing that i use one of those chain cleaning widgets & before that i used a couple of old tooth brushes. are you cleaning the chain rings as well?

are you letting the finish line lube dry before riding, moving the chain, etc.? i've been told repeatedly by my LBS to make sure its completely "dry" before riding.

I am letting the Finish Line set at least overnight before riding, but never knew that was so important. And yes, I do clean my rings and the bully gears as well. I think it is just plain tough to keep a bike clean during a heavy rainy season like we are having. I like your suggestion about letting the LBS clean the bike.

  17. The pic below shows how my bike has looked on every ride this past week. The month-old HG-53 chain already has loose barrels. (First HG-53 I've tried as I usually use the HG-91 or HG-93. Not impressed with the cheaper chain.) Wondering what folks are doing to keep their chains clean this time of year.

After a muddy ride, I hose the bike off and then bounce it to remove as much water as possible. Once dry, I clean the chain with a dry rag, then with a rag with a WD-40 like lubricant. Wipe it off again and then put on some Finish Line wax-based lubricant. Doesn't seem like I'm getting off all the grit.

  18. A Honda mechanic told me 35,000 on cam chain but I don't like to take one Somchai's advice.

How do I ask for re-jetting? will they do it at a Honda shop?

I had mine done at the Honda shop on Huay Gaew Road. There is a very experienced CBR-150 mechanic there and he has tuned bikes of friends as well. Haven't heard any complaints. I had my wife explain to him that I wanted it leaner for running up at 1000 meters or higher. He took a shot at it and seemed to hit it well. Most people want just the minimum work done so you have to be clear to him that you want more performance.

  19. Ok T-dog let's talk carbs.

I am going to get some work done on my CBR and I was thinking I might change the carb, but here's the thing; I don't know much about it.

Can I just get different jets and run them in the stock carb, or do I need to get a new carb. if only jets, then which ones, and if new carb then which one.

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I think by now there might be some consensus.

Also does the timing chain need to be replaced after 35,000k

    Thanks

I've changed carbs on bikes and trucks in the past and I was never happy with any of those conversions as drivability, starting, improper accelerator pump operation, or something always got screwed up. I'm a stock carb man after a few negative experiences. The stock CBR-150 carb can be re-jetted and my mechanic did that for me once he dialed in my driving style. I want power when I am up in the mountains (usually 2-up with the FNU) so he leaned me out and it made a world of difference.

Not sure about when to change the cam chain. I know my chain-tensioner locked-up at 25,000 km so now you got me worried about the chain! I'll see if its covered in my maintenance manual.
