  1. Maximum Power: 19.5bhp@10500rpm

    Maximum Torque: 17NM@8500rpm

So another 2.5hp 15% more power.....

So the bore and the stroke are the same.

The top speed is the same.

    It's also 20kg heavier.

Power to weight of the old one is

    Power/weight ratio: 0.1478 HP/kg

What is it with the new one?

Good catch there, steely-eyed missile man. I can't believe FI and all that new plastic could add up to 20 kg?? I wonder if the original weight was wrong.

  2. thank you very much for posting the link to Martin's web site!

Fishenough you mentioned you visited 9 caves, would you recommend any of them, does one stand out more than another?

Do you know they've all been nice with different highlights, and I'm not including the caves visited quickly on bike tour or the airy cavern style ones with the 9. It's a mix of the tour type ones, where the Cave Lodge main cave stands out (hopefully I can head that way later this week) to some of the more remote ones - see picture below, the Taktan cave is close to Chiang Mai on the Samoeng loop (don't get caught coming out of there when it rains, two of use could just manage to push my bike up the grassy wet hill. Would have been stuck with the truck, which has been there also!). I even want to return to busy Chiang Dao cave one day.

Fishenough, Did you actually find an entrance to a real cave up there and go in? All I've found are mosquito infested holes that only go in a few meters. Is there a deep cave up there?

  3. Tastes do indeed change over time. If someone would have told me 15 years ago that I would be catting around on a 150 cc bike, I would have laughed until I turned blue! Today, I really couldn't see myself on my old 750F or any other crotch rocket on the twisties of Northern Thailand.... The CBR-150 is just so much fun there, being as light as it is. My only complaint with it is the lack of power up high, and the new 250 might indeed solve that problem. Let's all hope it has the handling of the 150 without too much extra weight.

  4. Can't get over how much we discuss appearances, given how tastes vary among us (with the seasons and years as well; my ideas on best appearances are different from some years ago).

I'm about function. Got the notion from cars that changed looks but were the same inside - to get me to buy.

For example, the muffler from these 150 pictures looks might do that - muffle. Perhaps the CBR150 will be introduced as Honda's first Stealth Motorcycle and the 250 will follow. "More quiet than electric!"

In any case, I know this - I'm not buying new ever again without test rides, and if dealers don't offer them, then dealers won't profit.

CMX, I agree "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" for sure. One thing good about the "new" CBR is that it does not appear they changed its excellent handling. The power train and frame appear to be unchanged. That's good. As for me, I've seen sexier mufflers on weed eaters! ;)

  5. It rained all night, good and steady up here by the Night Safari. Looking at the wx radar yesterday, it was pretty widespread, and was wondering how the river is looking. Any reports from the River Rats?

  6. George,

I have no problem with following TV forum rules, but could you provide some of the reasoning behind it? Is it some legality with YouTube that requires the embedding?

It's difficult to know what the link is going to without having to actually go to the youtube site to check if it is suitable or not. Embedded, we mods can tell quickly if it is naughty or not. :D

    Thanks Tywais!

  7. Jee....Lot's of good camping areas around Chiang Mai. One potential place for you is up above Doi Suthep. Past the temple, keep going to the touristy hill tribe village on the side of Doi Pui. From there you can follow forestry trails to another mountain called Doi Pa Klong, or drum mountain. Between Doi Pui and Doi Pa Klong you are on a very high ridge covered with pine needles. Feels like you are in the western US there, and it is too cold for most snakes. Very few bugs as well most times of the year. Lots of flat areas to pitch a tent, and I do sometimes see fire rings. I mountain bike up there often, rarely see anyone, and have never felt threatened when I do see someone.

  8. Took my weekly ride off-piste and thought I would post a few photos of the way out and on the trail itself. It always amazes me how much you can see in 35 km bike cruise within a half hour of Chiang Mai.

There are a myriad of dirt tracks between the road to OpKhan National Park and the Samoung road, and a biking buddy discovered one that has become my weekly favorite. Two hill tribe villages, about 400 meters of climbing total, and lots of quiet. Mountain biking really allows one to escape the noise and pollution of the highways. KMZ file of the general area attached.

With a stop to tie up a broken spoke, a bit of photography, short chat with a goat farmer, and bowl of delicious noodles, I was still back home in under three hours with a very slow pace. It is so green in Northern Thailand right now and a great time to ride.

  9. Calling this guy tonight!

    You guys are awesome!

    Thank you so much LivinLOS!

I have been checking The Phuket gazette paper but haven't found anything yet.. Though this was just posted yesterday! w00t!

Thanks again everyone, for all of your input!

I will write back as soon as! (with good news too, i hope:lol:)

    sawas dee krap!:jap:

Anybody know if Enth bought this bike?

YES he did. He has been seen a good many times wizzing up and down this island and really enjoying his bike. So I guess he is just too busy riding, to write at this time.

I saw the bike and it looks really good. Has a rear mud flap mod, cut shorter. But The Enth tells me it is a bit wet in the rain. I guess the longer flap is there for a reason. Take care out there.

Good on him! He got about the best deal I have ever heard of on a CBR150. He'll probably never turn the computer on now.

  10. Doppa....No need to import them as there is plenty available here. Lots of good suggestions on this thread so far. You can even show up for a Sunday Cycling ride (www.cmcycling.org) on any Sunday at 7:30 AM at Tapae Gate and buy a pair there.

During an organized ride up Doi Suthep last December, I ran into a fellow that had some beautiful pants and shorts that he was making up near Maejo University. If anyone knows where this place is, please post directions. I unfortunately lost his business card, but the quality of his clothing appeared to be better than what you get off the shelf.

  11. Regarding cam chains and belts, I had a cam belt fail on a 2.5 liter Suburu Boxer GT. It simply bent the exhaust valves over and was pretty easy to fix with new guides and valves. That only happens on a zero-clearance engine, and some engines with valve-piston clearance have little damage if the cam chain or belt fails nicely.

If the chain gets bound up between the housings and sprockets, that is a different matter. As fast as the CBR150 revs, I don't think the unlikely and rare event of a cam chain failing would be very pretty.

  12. It might have been me. I do think that mine may need a chain but i have also been told by the vx forum that its a pretty normal sound for the engine. so i'm not going to worry (to much :D)

Yeah, I am going to have mine replaced in the next month, just for peace of mind before the wife and I head out on some longer cold-season trips. The engine does seem noisier than it has been in the past.

hey T_Dog what sort of milage have u clocked up on the bike?? I cant get any info on when to change??

I have close to 42000km now and think?? Im due for a cam chain replacement. Plus an airbox/ filter clean, new plug and new drive chain etc. Buit if there is a new model released end of this month I think I will just buy a new bike instead. use that service cost money towards the new bike.

I've got 37,000 km on it if it was accurate when I bought it. It might have more as it had some problems I had to fix when I bought it which surprised me for it only having 5000 km on the clock.

My mechanic says that the cam chain should be replaced at 35,000 km. Nothing about that in any manual I have seen, but that sounds like an appropriate figure.

Buying a new bike would be great, especially if it had 100 extra cc's and an additional cylinder!

  14. marcgee, glad you are okay! This morning I was putting on my bicycling shoes to go for a ride and noticed a flattened tree frog stuck on the inside sole of one of them. I obviously had not noticed him a few days ago and had taken him for a deadly ride, pancaking him in the process. (The shoes aren't particularly comfortable ones so did not notice the slight bulge. Or, maybe the arch support felt good?) I normally check my shoes but obviously have to do a better job! A bit of stinky cleanup...

  15. one good thing about Honda. IF they do bring it out then i imagine the finance deal will be good. It is fairly good on the PCXrolleyes.gif

Hiya Peace. Hope ya doing wellwai.gif

ThaiCBR, did you ever find out anything about cam chain maintenance? (Forgive me if that was not you asking a while back.) My mechanic was doing the throttle cable maintenance on the bike a few weeks back and he pointed out a funny noise after revving the engine and recommended a new cam chain. He checked the cam chain tensioner and it was fine.
