  1. Every flight I have been on has used the exact same safety procedure's so why do airline staff get arsey if you don't sit and watch them demonstrate something that you have seen 100 times? I apreciate that there may well be first time flyers who haven't seen it and fair enough but when staff talked to you like you are a 10 year old and not ask you but tell you to watch the demonstration why should we?

  2. Simple plug & play MP3 players that you simply plug into a USB port and drag & drop are perfect. I can simply plug my MP3 player in to any computer with a USB and copy music what could be simpler? It cost me £20 or about 1100baht and if it lasts a year then I'm happy then I get a new one.

  3. What surprises me most in all of this is the attitude of the British Embassy.

Basically refusing to get involved, and the only help offered is giving them a Thai lawyer, whose advice is to stay in Thailand and fight the case :)

I have lived here over 10 years, and fortunately speak enough Thai and have enough friends/contacts etc, etc, that it would be highly unlikely something like this would go very far.

But if you were here on holiday, you pay the money and get out of Dodge.

Anyone who has been here any amount of time, we all know how the system works, which is why the embassy's naivity surprises me.

Having said that, maybe it doesnt. Cushy job, dont rock the boat etc :D

    British Embassy= Chocolate Fireguard

Said it 100 times and I'll say it again, the british embassy are as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

  4. You cannot book a ceremony until the foreign national arrives in the UK the ECO are aware of this rule.

Please take note you cannot book a wedding or make arrangements until your fiance is here in the UK.

    Duly enclosed:

    AECIP 83/03 states :

"A reminder has now issued to all our offices overseas (under reference AECIP 83/03). The relevant section of this AECIP reads as follows:

"1. There has been some confusion over whether ECOs [Entry Clearance Officers] should be asking for confirmation of wedding bookings at a registry office. This should not be happening. Registrars cannot make arrangements until the foreign national has arrived in the UK.

"2. ECMs [Managers] are therefore asked to re-acquaint themselves and their staff with the procedures outlined in DSP 13.9".

    Regards

Funnily enough, when applying for my wifes's fiance visa for her to come to the UK, I had to provide proof that a wedding ceremony had been booked and so I had to get a letter from the minister stating that a ceremony had been booked.

You can explain to the minister about your fiance's situation and ask him to write you a letter another thing I did was book the reception and sent the receipt for that along in her visa application although this was 3 years ago so things might have changed hope this helps.

  5. Thanks for the replies. I think a combination of Travellers Cheques and bank cards as a backup will work best.

Son't forget they will have to pay commission when they purchase the TC's and pay again when they change them in Thailand.

  6. This thread should be closed because common sense is not Thailand related

Neither is the wacko jacko post but I see that is still running although if you dare to criticise him your post will be removed.

  7. OMG - RIP Michael.

The first record I ever bought as a child was a Jackson 5 small 45 disc, and the first dancer that ever truly held me in awe was Michael Jackson. If you ever see the old black & white Motown audition film of Michael as young child auditioning and dancing with his brothers, you will quickly understand that he was a singular talent of a century. I'm sorry things went so badly for him in his later life.

RIP King of Pop. No one even came close.

Rubbish !!! There is and probably never will again be only one 'King '

  8. Hi,

I live in a townhouse in a moo baan. We have space outside the townhouse to park our car. There is space for each townhouse to park their car.

We have had some problems lately with people parking outside our house. First of all we can hardly get into our own house when someone parks outside

and second we can't park our own car and have to find a place outside the moo baan because I don't want to disturb my neighbors parking my car outside their house.

We recently got a traffic cone to place outside the house in hope that people would stop parking in front of our house but that doesn't seem to help. They will basically

just remove the cone to the side.

So I'm wondering what are the usual rules for parking spots in a moo baan. Is it my spot ? or can anyone claim it ? I live in a rented townhouse.

    Appreciate the help

Block them in with your car?

  9. I am planning to come in to BKK for some shopping and entertainment, and have been overwhelmed with the choices of hotels, and locations. I want to do some shopping, and go out for entertainment in the evenings, so I thought Sukhumvit would best suite my needs. I got a rate of 1600 baht per night including breakfast, and I was wondering if this is the my best choice, or if any of the TV members can give another recommendation.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions, and comments.

First you need to deside whay you want your room for.

When I look for a room all I want is a clean room a comfy bed and good air-con, couldn't give a monkey's about breakfast, free wi-fi or anything else.

  10. My son was born in Phuket and i've already got the Citizenship organised for him and now need to complete the passport application.

I've filled out all the details and only require an Australian to go as a Guarantor for me, is anyone happy to sign for me? Anyone that is please PM me as I'll need your Family Name, Given Names, Passport Number and Passport Expiry Date to enter online before I can print it. When I arrive back in Bangkok on the 3rd of July maybe I can meet you somewhere to sign the paper and also the two photographs.

I would get the Doctor that performed his birth to sign although I will not be back in Phuket for a month and don't wish to pay for needless flights to Phuket and back.

What about somebody at the embassy?

  12. Hi folks,

I am married to a thai and have a son 7 month old ,i have got him a thai passport and am now thinking about his English registration and passport. Do i have to do this in thailand or can it be done in england as i am leaving in June for a two month period. Also i would like to know if anyone can advise

on a little problem. My wife bless her has the thai habit of daytime sleep and now James my son has

the same habit which would be ok But he doesent sleep well at night now. :) So do i leave em too it or

try to get Wan my wife to change her sleeping habits ? :D Any help appreciated Thanks...

Can't help with the passport but in regards to your wee laddie, do you work? If not why don't you take him out during the day and leave your wife to sleep then gradualy he'll get in to a routine of sleeping at night although if your wife is feeding the bairn alone then that will dictate a lot.

  13. I am a British national travelling to the UK in July with my two daughters. They both have British passports and Thai passports. Their Thai mother will not be travelling with us. Do I need any signed paperwork from my wife in order for my children to leave Thailand? Also, should they leave Thailand on their Thai passports and enter UK on thier English passports?

Any help anyone can offer would be great.

I'm sorry but why would you think that you would need permission from your wife to take your kids out of Thailand?

Do you think your wife would need your permission if she wanted to take the kids out of Thailand?

They are as much your kids as your wifes, sorry if it seems if I'm having a go at the OP, I'm not, it just gets my back up that men are constantly told that their wives are more important when it comes to their kids and now men are starting to believe it.

  14. Walking street Pattaya, not many big names but great action, way better than Lumpini.

    Brigante7.

    I hope you're joking! :)

    WS is tourist stuff.

    RAZZ

No I'm not, after going to Lumpini and not being very impressed with the quality of the fights, I was in Pattaya and sat and watched a succession of very angry thai boxers batter seven shades of shit out of each other in the ring on walking street. Just my personal opinion.

    Brigante7.

WS is like WWF wrestling, a show, a gimmick. They're not real fights at all.

    RAZZ

Then I must have been lucky because I can assure you the fights I saw on walking street were very real. I would compare walking street to unlicensed bxing and Lumpini to licensed, unlicensed way more exciting.

    Brigante7.

  15. You probably just got lucky with the quality.

he really don't know what hes talking about even the Thai boxers in walking street would die laughing at suggesting there in the same league as the Lumpini boxers :)

I didn't say they were in the same league, I said the fights were more exciting, not the same thing. Take football, technicaly Spanish and Italian football is the better football but English football is more exciting to watch.
