  1. Ive just got back from spending a couple of weeks in Bangkok. Usually I stay in the Sukhumvit area but this time I decided to try out something near to Khao San Rd as I have been hearing good things about it recently.

I stayed at a couple of places behind the temple and have to say that the receptionists looked like bulldogs chewing wasps in both places. In four days there I never once received a smile from any of them. THey made me fel like they were the paying guest and I was something they unpleaseant that they had stepped in. I have no idea why but also at the restaurants, bars I visited the staff there seemed to be extremeley pissed off about something. At one guest house they have two katoeys serving food and drink, I caught them talking and laughing at girls on a table near me, while holding their hands to their mouths. They should be sacked.

I am sure am not the only person to notice the attitude some of these people have. Do they hate farang, depise them? I think some of the guesthouses/hotels and bars could do with teaching their staff some manners, if they continue to work with a growl on their faces or bitch about guests openly they should find work in another industry, maybe a shoe factory or something.

I later moved to a couple of hotels around Samsen and found the attitude there much better. Has anyone else noticed the attitude around Khao San Road?

  2. To say a woman has been around just because she is the wrong side of thirty is not correct in some cases and even if they have been around so what we aren't 16 year old virgins are we.

Ive met Thai women over thirty who although are not as good to look at as a nice 22 year old they could certainly shows them a few things in the sack.

  3. Went to Phuket a few years back and got in with a couple of expats. Rather than take tuk tuks anywhere these guys liked to march along the road being ex-squaddies. One night we were on a bar crawl, I had had enough at one bar and my room must have been a couple of kms away, told the lads I was off. One got off the stool and said wait till' he flagged a bike down for me, nice gesture I thought.

A few minutes later he shouts me over to a bike with a girl riding, he speaks a little Thai I get on the bike and he tells me he has told her where I stay. I was a few sheets to the wind at the time but I noticed she was driving in the wrong direction, next thing her hand comes off the handle and onto my package.

I told her we were going the wrong way the she turns onto a hill road which was very dimly lit, I told her to stop the bike as I was wrecked and just wanted to get to my bed alone, it turned around and it was an ugly looking katoey, adams apple an all. This being my first trip to Thailand I was shocked. I jumped off the bike and started walking away with the katoey following me slowly on the bike. In the end I had to threaten him with a punch if he did not stop following me, thankfully he did.

Went to the lads bar the next night, these guys just burst out laughing, after a beer I cooled down and laughed with them, bastards! :o

  4. Stickmans site is good imo, yes it offers one guys view on Thailand, it doesn't pretend to be anymore than that.

I find some, not all of the readers posts quite interesting and I guess to some newbies they are good to read before coming to Thailand or having not long arrived.

The private eye thing, well am not sure I would put myself in that position, is it not a bit dangerous to be getting involved in other peoples lives for financial gain especially in Thailand where large numbers of farangs go missing or are found with their hands tied behind their backs with bags over their heads beside a dodgy suicide note.

I dont know the guy, couldn't spot him in a crowd but am sure there are a lot of farang and Thai girls who could, if he upsets the wrong persons applecart then I think he may find himself in serious trouble. But hey, he's a grown man and he knows what he's getting himself into so good luck to him. :o

  5. I was told they have a dog market in the Sakon Nakon province, up to fifty slaughtered and sold per day. I have seen on the Thai news people being arrested for transporting dogs to the abbatoir. Having worked with Thai's from Sakon Nakhon I have noticed that they seem to be the butt of jokes from other Thai's regarding the dog eating.

I think if the local people who cannot afford other meat or who have been eating dog meat for generations eat it, its no problem but I dont see why any farang would order dog meat, just to "try it out" are you sick or what? :o

Im sure I have unintentionally ate cat and rat while in Asia but the worst thing I ever tasted was something from Greece, not sure exactly what it was but it certainly wasn't the beef I ordered, it seriously tasted like shit, not that I know what shit tastes like but just what I would imagine it tastes like. Why dont the people who eat dogs just to "try it out" eat shit and try that out, they would probably like it. :D

  6. Always someone else in the restaurant inquiring about the farang who can eat spicy, hot food. When my wife ordered the same the other week, mine was ridiculously hot, almost uneatable - hers was perfect. She just doesn't understand, or is she taking the piss?. I tried to explain that people from my country generally like hot food as there are many Indian restarants, and some other stuff. Don't bother! Simple, uneducated,Thai people do not care about the reason why. They do not care about my country's culture.

I was in Pattaya and Bangkok last week and twice saw people ordering meals, the first time was a Russian family sitting on the table behind me, they ordered a hot plate of seafood and vegetables, cant remember the name, I had ordered the same, I dont like food too spicy and it was very nice. The father of the family tried a mouthful, started abusing the waiter and then walked out of the place, I couldn't help but laugh, at him not the waiter. :D

The second time I was in a hotel in Banglampoo, another family walked in and repeated the phrase 'no spicy' at least five times to the poor girl who was serving. They ordered a fried rice, then sprinkled the spice on themselves, later they called the girl over to pay the bill, the girl noticed that the plates were half full, she said "you no like?", the reply from mother was "it was too spicy, we cannot eat that". :D

Jeez, no wonder these young people working in Bangkok probably relay these stories back to friends and family up in the villages so its no surprise to me that they do not care about a farangs country culture. :o

  7. I dont know about other tv members but I just wouldn't get into a boat at 5.00 am after a full moon party, it just doesn't make sense to me. Ive been to more than a few full moons and dont even bother going back to my room usually a few kilometres north of Had Rin in a taxi as its better to stick around until daylight kicks in and you can sober up a little.

Would you go swimming when your pissed up? Put your life in the hands of a pissed up boat driver? If you do get in the boat and you see it becoming overloaded, for Christ's sake get out, kip on the beach and get a proper ferry back the next day.

The only thing that can make a difference are the people who use the boats, use your comon sense, dont get on them when they are overloaded or when your pissed.

    Condolences to all involved.

  8. I like the Klong boats, its a cheap way to get around and the fastest. Taxi's, well as you say everytime you jump in one you get into a jam. The river taxis can take you into the heart of the city in no time, adds a certain charm to Bangkok imo. I dont envy the young lads who work on them though, you need to have your wits about you to do what they do all day without falling in.

  9. [to pnustedt : you ever tried the water on any beach in Pattaya? it's not much worse than any two days blocked toilet!

Yes, certainly have, together with very young children. No problem for cooling off. However, if we're swimming will normally use the hotel pool. The Hard Rock has a particularly nice pool with artificial "beach". We also often go out to one of the islands and have a barbecue where the water is sweeter! :D

The Hard Rock pool is great, especially if you have kids. I could stay there all day. Sometimes funny to watch the guys who have brought their "guest" back for the night the following day. Girls getting tossed in the air by some lovestruck guy. Hey, its all good fun though. :o

Hard Rock, yes I would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent hotel.

  10. (Neeranam @ 2005-01-18 07:14:53)

SO many people moan about it. Accept it.

If you live here and don't work - then you can afford the odd 200 baht, can't you.

If you live here and work get the license.

If you are a tourist, you can afford it.

    Spot on.

Boycotting National Parks will never work.

You can't beat or change the system, so either accept it or work around it (and always with a smile).

Exploiting falungs will never go away... the Thai's exploit their own kind so how can anyone expect them not to take advantage of wealthier tourists if they can?

as can be seen yet again  when this subject is discussed , some people just cant see that this is not about being able to afford 100 or 200 baht , that is not the point at all. if that was the case then thais who drove up to parks in bmw's would be charged more than thais who arrived 4-up on an old motor bike.

its about charging according to race and nationality. and to accept it with a smile is quite frankly demeaning, weak and pathetic.

its like saying "i know i'm being cheated and treated unfairly , but i'm such a dumb fck loser i'll give you what you unfairly demand of me , not only that i'll smile as you fleece me too. i'll be your performing monkey too if thats what you want."

a service or commodity has an agreed value , a cup of coffee costs x baht , a taxi ride costs y baht , entrance to a national park costs z baht.

if your ideas that you should pay according to your wealth hold water , then why dont the meters in bangkok taxis have a button that the driver presses that will make the meter charge for a thai or for a foriegner.  why dont 99% of businesses charge according to race or wealth.

they dont behave like that because they know its racist , they know its unfair and they know its <deleted>.

should a poor person be able to buy a mercedes for a lower price than a rich person.

smile and pay up?.......lay down and die first !

    :D:D:D

    Well said, I couldn't agree more. :o

  11. I am not a teacher nor do I wish to be one, but I would like to ask why are members treating the OP with suspicion?

From what I have read the salary isn't great but I am sure there are some people out there who would like to live and work in Ko Sumui (cant stand the place myself but each to their own).

As far as the multiple entry visa goes, OK the OP got it wrong, but why does it pi## off TV members if the school is not "proper". I have worked in Thailand and realise that a w/p is needed, the OP is offering one, so whats the problem?

  12. A great film IMO is Bladerunner.

Rutger Hauer - Roy Batty - Replicant, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

    :o

  14. just returned to uk from pattaya..spent 3 weeks there, had no intention of being there all the time but due to natural disasters and so forth ended up spending the whole time there.

1.on no less than 4 seperate occasions i was accosted and verbally threatened by 50ish english males....i know my wife is pretty and i have a fair few friends there so i generally have a good time...but why me.if i was a wimp maybe i could understand it,but i am not...37 years 6'2" 100 kilos...are they just staying there so long they start to resent anybody who is enjoying themselves???

what really amazes me is the young usually get slated and i never saw one who didnt have a smile for me...so what is it to much song saem????

or are they just trying to impress dog ugly wives they have been with for the last twenty years??

have been 10 times before to thailand and have never once had any trouble anywhere!

2.the fXXXing idiots who sell fireworks in bars to over happy drunks who let them off without a care in the world!!

ref this if i could find the <deleted> who caused my wife to receive a medium burn to her back by letting one off virtually in the bar i would have extreme trouble keeping my thai smile!!!!

second point is a bit of a rage i know as "this is thailand" but anybody else noticed the first phenomena or dothey just fancy me???

    schmokinnn :D

Its not just you pal, the same happened to me while I was there last year, some euro tosser trying to look hard in front of my g/f, sad old man that he was he backed off.

  15. I take it your talking about Soi 4, Sukhumvit.

There is certainly nightlife there, Nana Plaza for a start has many bars, ask any taxi or tuk tuk driver and they will take you there. If you haven't been before its worth a visit. NEP (Nana Entertainment Plaza) has three floors, well it did last time I went there. Many of these bars have shows, Go-Go dancing etc. The place is full of girls, all willing for a shilling (well 1000 baht+ actually).

Outside on the rest of Soi Nana (Soi 4) you will find some small bars, restaurants and a disco.

As I say, go and take a look, you might like what you see, then again you might not.

Good Luck and try not to get too pissed as there are some naughty katoeys around that area. :o

  16. :D  :D
i think myself and many others are a bit bored with these threads that get closed as soon as  you're sussed. Then why not post your useless Troll threads here. Will save time and space. at least we might have a laugh at some of them instead of getting closed before we really get to take the piss. Come on! Bring them on!

:D maybe you are the biggest troll but you don't realize it ?

    :o:D:D
