  1. Cannot understand why people always try to rush the doors of the skytrain when there are people trying to get off, is it not common sense to wait for people to get off first? I would have thought so.

I also notice that many men have hardly any consideration for the women, guys will not hold doors open when the enter a place, I have seen guys out with their girlfriends/wifes enter a shop and then let the door slam behind them into the womans face, very sad. This of course is not just restricted to Thailand.

Some people look surprised when I spend that extra second or two holding a door open for them (men & women), but to me its just basic manners.

  2. I used to get the green bus from the bts up a 1 km road to my apartment in Bangkok, I didn't enjoy it but I could never grab a cab at the time I was travelling, So I took the bus, 3 baht 50 satang, if my memory serves me right. Problem though with the green buses is that I have to stand hunched up as the ceiling of the bus is very low and am 6ft.

I was sitting at at roadside bar in Pattaya last year about 3 pm, I saw this guy walk into the middle of the beach road, then he started doing starjumps, stopping the traffic for a short while, at the time I just wanted a quiet drink but then the car horns started blaring, my first thought was that someone should run him over or give him a slight knock but I guess he was mentally ill or something, he walked onto the beach after a minute or so and the traffic passed by, feel sorry for the guy but more sorry for the next person he bumped into on the beach.

  3. The whistle is annoying, granted, but we only have to put up with it for a short time or in some cases two weeks. I have to say I feel sorry for these guys, imagine starting your 12 hour shift each day knowing that you are going to have to listen to the sound of a whistle, I really dont know how anyone could motivate themselves to do this job. I reckon I would lose the plot after a few days. :o

What about those guys at the airport with the metal heals, whats that all about, 1,2,3, click, turnaround, 1,2,3, click. Its like a Monty Python sketch, but these guys seem to take it very seriously, I usually sit out the airport (mainly Hat Yai) and observe this, never fails to make me laugh, small things amuse small minds I guess. :D

  4. No need to be kissing your wife's ass on this one, unless you're okay with being in that role...  :o

My issue was that I'm not taking ANY shit for something I'm not guilty of. I don't allow anytone to treat me like that- especially someone I'm living with. Why would you? Nor should she be your doormat, either.  :D

My message is clear "Get over it or keep it to yourself!". It worked for me  :D

Thats the way to do it. Put your foot down, if she is crazy, kick her out, no one needs the hassle. :D

  5. The train trip to Penang is pretty safe am sure, never had any problems in the past.

When I travel on the sleepers I usually go to the buffet bar, meet loads of different people there, I have never sat alone for long. Last time I met three guys (Thai) who were all travelling seperately, each one sitting in a different seat, after a few beers one joined me who could speak a little english, within an hour the other two were over and we had a good laugh, drank a few bottles of Sangsom (only the little fella's) and had a bite to eat. I think when your travelling its good to have company as the time flies by.

Take the train once in a while, you get to meet different people and generally its a good experience, sure beats the bus, where people recline their chairs right onto your kneecaps! :o

  6. MK just doesn't do anything for me, boiled food, pretty bland imo.

Daidomon is much better, two choices boil or grill (or both, so I guess three), I think the bacon there is spot on.

KFC - if I haven't eaten farang food for a few months then OK but otherwise no, the chicken is shit.

MD's Big Mac - nice, Quarter Pounder - nice, fillet er fish - big fish finger on a bun.

Anyone heard of Moo gatar (spelling), not sure what it means but thats what my friends and g/f call it (Moo=pig, I know but not sure about gatar) anyway its pretty cheap and its ok, usually have them outdoors though because of the heat. The places have tables with holes in, they put a bucket of flaming charcoal in the hole and a metal cooking pot on the top. Down in Had Yai they had a place 80 baht all you can eat, there is a large selection of meat, fish, veggies etc, the beer there is cheap aswell unlike MK or Fuji, Daidomon, bargain!

Chester Grill, went one time, saw what looked like an appetizing fish dish on the menu board, ordered it and got a plate of dried fish (not sure what type) with some tomato sauce on the side, needless to say that will be my last visit there.

The best fast food is surely the BK whopper or a double whopper, fantastic.

  7. Today I read an interesting article about what US National Intelligence Council think the future may hold for the world in general, here is the link if anyone is interested Yahoo.

I also read an alternative view the other day from a person who appears to be a hoax, I dont know if any TV members have heard of this guy, his name is John Titor, he claims that he is a time traveller :D ! His views are very different from the one of the US National Intelligence Council, but if I had to bet which prediction would be correct I think I would place my money on the this John Titor guy. Here is a link to a site about Mr Titor and what he had to say when he was here :DJohn Titor

Aside from the guy being a little crazy :o I think his version of the future may be nearer the mark than the current US governments.

Do TV members have any predictions for the future? :D

  8. Of course, this is all just joking around. Pablo, nothing personal, I assure you. But, TIT, na'?

Actually Ajarn I have been caught before :o so this is where the suspicion arises from I guess. Now you have got me thinking, has she got another bloke! :D

  9. Are you guys serious??? :o

Serious about coming from the 'Birk'?? Too right! It's not something you would want to joke about. :D

Do you mean missing the place? Sure! I miss not being able to walk miles without working up a sweat. The local fish 'n' chip shops. Riding around Birk or even the entire outskirts of the Wirral and not see anyone else on two wheels. Miss family and friends and a few other things.

I was even thinking of going back for a week or two just so that I could re-appreciate coming back to Thailand. Also I'd like to go back to look around the places where I used to play when growing up and to compare the 'then and now' changes to old haunts. Basically to re-live old memories.

Being 15 years here, there are times when I know I should be more appreciative of what this country has to offer, and on those rare occassions that's when I think of home. :D

Yeah I suppose if you look at it that way then there is something gained from going 'home' once in a while. Last time I went back I stayed two days and then bolted out of there as fast as I could, nice to see some family and old friends, going the local, telling a few yarns from Asia that no one believes!

I found the place where I grew up (which was pretty rough anyway) had become worse, as I say I was there only two days and some young ankle biters trying it on with me.

Home, good for a few days. :D

  10. You might not have enough memory to run the program. Try to alter the Virtual memory. Control panel, performance & maintenance, adjust visual effects, advanced, virtual memory. Try to notch it up a bit and maybe the program will not crash, not saying it will work but it might.

  11. I have to agree about the unusual amount of wrong number calls while in Thailand. Not sure if its the case you mention about people showing off their handphones but it is odd. This usually starts my g/f off, going on at me that I have another woman etc! I show her the phone call list and tell her to call them back if she has her doubts.

  12. Pablo, it's starts off as a good game but once you get out of the hotel you then have to get around NYC using trains and buses. Not only that, but you have to make money to buy food to stay alive and find places to sleep of an evening.

It's a game only for the adventure purist. I like a challenge but this one's too much of a toughie for me.

Gazza, I got the bedsheet on but still couldn't get out of the room, I felt like a was bangin' my head against a brick wall for a while so I have decided to put this game to rest, as you say purely for purists. Oh well, back to the strategy games... :o

  13. Yep, there sure are a lot of slapper whores out there with hidden agendas. Try to mix with some Thais who are more integrated into the melting pot of society, rather than the lower crust thais/issans who tend to stick/fester together and make up the "thai community" abroad.

Keep your chin up mate, there are also lots of honest, genuine, trustworthy, loyal Thai females out there who make the aformentioned slappers look like the dirt they really are.

    :D

It seems you may have had a bad experience in the past with a woman from Issan but I dont see how you can tar them all with the same brush. I suppose you are 'upper crust' :o who would not be seen with the 'lower crust' Thais/Issans, ignorant fool.

  14. I am sure this happened to me the other night, got a message about a Worm Borfor virus then another about a Trojan. This PC is used by many people so I dont know where they came from.

The o/s is Win XP. The connection is not dial up but the other (broadband) forgive me as am not at all computer savvy.

I was using a Dos program at the time so I didn't notice anything until I switched back to windows. When I returned to windows I noticed files were downloading, I stopped this then checked the settings, the home page had been changed and I noticed remote assistance had been turned on.

I have a firewall installed which told me there had been a hijack, I backtraced the address and it turns out its some hacker from Russia, not one but two.

Have NAV installed, ran a check, put the viruses in the vault then set system restore off, then restart in safe mode, remove virus, system restore back on then restart in full mode. Seems to have done the trick. But I am sure some files have gone.

Even with a firewall installed the system was hijacked, would TV members recommend installing more than one firewall and is there any other protection?
